The greatest jump scare of all time, without a doubt. And absolutely essential to the plot, not just cheap. Poor Nellie, just wants them to stop fighting. 😢
Hell yeah it is. I’ve been watching hundreds of horror movies and shows since I was little, and none of them came close to getting me as good as the jump scare from The Haunting of Hill House did lol. This is the definition of how to correctly do a jump scare. None of that buildup crap to where you know it’s gonna happen, and when it happens it turns out silly to the point of being laughable, or nothing happens at all and the suspense is killed. No.. this time it completely comes out of nowhere when you least expect it, and it serves the plot too. Masterful :)
I subscribed to her patreon back in September to watch her LOTR reactions ahead of time, but it's been two months and she still didn't finish the trilogy. Don't support this girl.
I have seen reactions to this series from others, this, hands down was the best jump scare reaction 18:45 possibly the best genuine jump scare scream I have seen all time... That was great!!
Steve is in more danger from the house because he fails to understand what he's seeing. Hugh said "you see the signs but you don't know how to read them" in the previous episode. He's saying that when things are happening around him he's not realising that they're anything concerning. The younger kids see the ghosts and are scared, Steve sees a ghost and completely accepts that it's a guy fixing the clock who is actually there. So if the house tried to manipulate Steve like it did Olivia in this episode, it'd probably be able to do it easily because he believes what he sees. Despite being such a paranormal skeptic, he's actually quite gullible when it comes to what Hill House shows him. It's not that the house would be angry about the book, it's that Hugh didn't realise how much Steve had seen that wasn't real until he read his book.
That was probably the most intense reaction i've seen to this jumpscare so far :D And i am glad you have neighbors who care so much, honestly! :D 5:24: Great analysis! I love this aspect of the show. Take away the spooky stuff and it becomes a different story with the same tragic elements. And about the banging: It never occured to me, when i watched it for the first time, that it could've been Nell, because both experienced the same banging on the walls when they were kids. However, the theory with Nell also makes sense. And when i think about it: Maybe she had to take a more radical approach later so that Shirl would finally listen to Theo :O Great reaction!
Regarding the tree house revelation, if you rewatch the show you'll notice a few episodes ealier that one of the kids mention to the mother that Luke might be in the treehouse, and Olivia chuckles and says 'very funny' because she knows there isn't one. Little clues littered all the way through the show :)
I really hope it's not gonna discourage you of watching "the haunting of Bly manor" afterwards. both those shows are really amazingly written and filmed.
Okay, not gonna lie, the main Character’s voice in Bly Manor turned me off the show. Victoria Pedretti is a brilliant actor, but the particular style of voice her character had was so off putting I had to stop after the first episode. Literally do not think I could survive another 9 episodes of it so I had to stop after the first episode.
"He's going as Zorro?" No. He'd said he wanted to go as Daredevil, but the mask didn't work out, so he went as Daredevil in his "man in black" costume. Very iconic to comic book nerds. :)
Horror movies and shows don’t really get me much anymore, however the legendary jump scare scene in the car got me so bad that I didn’t know where I was in my house for a moment. My neighbors must’ve thought I was getting murdered cuz I yelled “OH SHIT WTF?!” so loudly when Neil jumped out between the seats lol
Great reaction loved it, however the monologue scene by Theo wasn’t about depression but the emptiness of death. Remember Theo is an empath (sort of) and she feels other people’s feelings and emotions however since Nell was already dead there was nothing to feel if you know what I mean just the vast empty of nothingness
Your reaction to the scene is about par for the course. When I watched it the first time, my neighbors were having a cookout with bacalhau à bras and some piri-piri chicken. I was so jealous and then I yelled really loud when the scene came on. They started shouting at me from my balcony to make sure I was okay. I didn't even get any bacalhau out of it!
I normally don't jump scare easily, and not bad when I do. But HOLY HELL, Headphone flew off, My cigarette launched out of my hand and hit the monitor, almost fell out of my seat, screamed like a little school girl and spent the next 20 seconds trying to compose myself, which of course led to several minutes of me laughing hysterically. I REALLY wish I had been recording it. because it would have been so funny to see me (6'4", 280lbs, Grizzly Adams lookalike) totally losing his shit. Then to follow it with Theo's EPIC monologue, always puts a tear in my eye.
Gotta tell you that I was really looking forward to you reacting to this episode. The whole episode is good, but “The Jump-scare” is a thing of beauty. I have watched reactions to it so many times that I know exactly when it is about to happen. So, I leaned in toward my iPad at just the right moment to see what your reaction would be, when suddenly a Church’s Chicken ad popped up. It was timed so perfectly and so not what I was expecting that I screamed! Boyfriend came running in like I was being attacked. So, don’t feel embarrassed about screaming. At least you screamed at a brilliantly executed jump-scare, I had to explain to my man that I screamed cuz of an awkwardly placed ad for chicken. (Apparently, Church’s Chicken’s original recipe is back on the menu.) 😊 Loved your reaction and looking forward to the rest of this series!
Best jumpscare because Victoria (Nell) was allowed to decide when her mission would take place. Kate (Theo) and Elizabeth (Shirl) both didn't know when it would happen. And if you look at the scene more closely, you can see how Kate is actually frightened.
Theo and Shirl knew that Nell was in the back seat and was going to jump out and scare them - they expected her to jump out at a certain point in their dialogue. But Flannagan told her to jump out a few paragraphs earlier in the script.
This series shouldn't be called The Haunting of Hill House . It's the haunting of this family. A haunting is of a specific location , but Nellie being in a car with her sisters or anywhere else other than the Hill House shows its the people , not the house , that are haunted. The haunting began in the house , but certainly isn't contained in it. Might be an error in writing or something. Still, a very griping storyline . 👍 👻 🎥 Your reactions to this mini-series have been outstanding .
It's the name of Steven's book in the show and the name of the actual novel, which is only tangentially related. Steven is also the narrator, and half of the story actually takes place in the house.

@@Soundtracks92haunting of hill house, Sinister, and Insidious are the best jump scares of all time. Or at least of modern cinema
Nah the best jump scare is in Mulholland Drive
Ah here we go, the one we're all waiting for!
And no joke, TH-cam choose that exact moment, mid-scream, to serve me an ad.😡
When that jump scare happened, I yelled like a baby. Then laughed with joy. Love this show!
How many times you see SoFie screaming?
Me: YES

I love Sofie but there was a guy who fell out of his chair so... 😅
Pretty much everyone that’s already a little jumpy has great reactions.
u should see the diegesis reaction too 😂

I made sure to rewind the car jump scare quite a few times for that reaction 😂😂😂

aww Sofie, hope you'll enjoy the ending. this series is like a love poem. those are some good neighbors btw.
I was expecting the jump scare but not your scream. Indirectly the scene got me again!
Me too! My heart sped up for sure

Remember the banging on the walls happened to Shirley and Theo when they were kids too.
The house is showing Luke the red lights that haunted him throughout his childhood.

The G.O.A.T. jump scare. Perfectly set up by the conversation with Hugh and Steven. And finally someone reacted like I did. It wasn't pretty.
Great reaction loved it, however the monologue scene by Theo wasn’t about depression but the emptiness of death. The neighbours 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 omg
You know why you’re here. 18:48
I'm sorry but I can't stop laughing.... lol. That was great.

I had been waiting for another episode of ‘Sophie jumps the hell out of her body’ for a while now…
