My Japanese teacher who was born on (or is it in?) Kyushu told my class this incredible story about her parents. Her dad was a kamikazi pilot in WWII and her mother lived in Kokura, in Saga-ken. Originally, the atomic bomb was supposed to be dropped on Kokura but because it was cloudy over the city, the pilot flew to Nagasaki instead. So her mom's life was saved because of cloudy weather. Then, Japan surrendered not too long after. Meanwhile, her dad was set to fly out to attack the Americans but the day before he was set to fly out, Japan surrendered, ending the war and all the remaining kamikazi pilots were relieved of duty. So basically, if the dropping of the bomb had been one day later, most likely her dad would have died fighting the Americans and her mom would have died in the atomic blast. She was born not too much longer around 1950 if I remember correctly. So one day was the entire difference from her and her kids never being born. Absolutely incredible - you could see how grateful she was to be alive when she told the story. I don't believe in destiny but that must have been one hell of a coincidence!
31:22 In a Tokyo 7-Eleven my friend bought a sandwich that was just white bread with whipped cream and strawberries in it. She didn't like it so gave it to me. I thought it was odd, but tasted alright.
36:53 I had flashbacks of my time in Japan. Little train station and train coming in... the quality of the light of the sun... I was never in Kagoshima but it evoked the same sensation I had when wandering around.
I think the seat belt thing is so you remember to turn the car off with the start/stop button, otherwise you might get out and walk away with your car still "on". The engine starts back up to let you know the car is still "on" and you need to turn it off.
Guys - we had a similar experience with a hire car in Hungary recently - everything the same up to your unbuckling the seatbelt.... in our case when we opened the boot (trunk) - the car turned back on! :-) As ever, enjoyable video. Metric is centimetres and imperial is inches :-)
Your car starting problem is actually a safety thing. Your car is not shut off it is just in rest mode, so when you go to leave it starts up to remind you to properly shut it off.

The stop-off feature isn't a full engine shutdown, a lot of cars with this are just killing a few cylinders and disengaging the transmission to reduce heat and wear while extended parking, but the motor still runs a little for electronics and battery, removing your seatbelt is a reminder to turn it all the way off as far as i can tell, mine just makes noise to tell me it still running

That’s a good point about the black cars. I honestly don’t remember seeing many black cars besides taxis with the multiple times I’ve been to Japan. Also that love hotel/AirBnb is SICK. That shower room is so cool. It’s gaudy and tacky. LOVE IT.
The war time in Japan feels, and is ages ago that I cannot relate to it in a real way even though I grew up there and heard stories from my own grandparents experiences being young kids during the war. Even harder to imagine being the enemy of westerners, being a U.S. citizen myself today. Such hard times are still very real and current at other parts of the world. I know! They seem like creatures from a film or something!
You guys are really doing a great job with these travel videos. I also love the food ones. Have you ever thought of pitching a show idea to one of the big companies like say Fox? The food and travel shows are popular and you guys have mastered the making of a 2 in 1 show T & F. Maybe clean up Mrs. Potty mouth to a PG 13 rating. I don't think I'm alone when I say the content you show is TV worthy. Keep up the great soon to be a TV series shows. I'm even revisiting some of my favorites. Tonight's a K & E night. ✌️
I suspect the videos would change quite a lot if someone else was involved in the production. I also suspect they'd hire younger better looking people before us, hahahahahah. -E
@@kydeanderic no no no do not be so hard on yourself. You guys make a great couple funny smart loving you show genuine interest about everything and your way of making the show works. You know the saying if it isn't broke don't fix it. As your self imposed manager I want you to try. Metaphorically speaking, I will show you the money lol. I'm confident you guys are onto something good here. Besides everyone loves a tall guy and pretty girl and I'm not just saying that cause I'm 6'5" it's been proven a tall guy will get a job before the short guy does. Never hurts to try. I'm not trying to be funny I honestly think you have something special
@@kydeanderic ~Besides: we all LOVE "Mrs Potty Mouth's" *Potty Mouth* ({; > ...!
Absolutely appreciate the enthusiasm, but I wouldn't even know where to begin. Also Kyde likes swearing. -E

That looks like a processed version of a "Cream Finger Doughnut" (www.greggs.co.uk/sweet-treats/cream-finger-doughnut), which I've been buying from bakers in England since the 1970s.
