Eddie doesn't mention the most outstanding note on the production, which is that Ernest Lehman's novella was really set in the 1930s, yet the film is clearly set in contemporary (1956-57) times, complete with the Kinney parking lot sign down by Sixth Avenue. So it's a very unrealistic depiction of New York City in the Fifties. The dialogue and mindset are twenty years in the past. Winchell was sort of a legendary voice and figure, but definitely one of yesteryear, soon to be known mostly for Aero Shave commercials and the narration in The Untouchables (where his old-tymey radio voice was a perfect fit). People were not hanging on his every word any more, or that of Leonard Lyons or Earl Wilson. The best known Broadway gossip columnist in the 1950s was probably Dorothy Kilgallen, but Dorothy was merely a novelty round-the-world girl reporter in the 1930s, and Lehman did not have a Dorothy character, so this movie doesn't. The notion of Sidney Falco being a hungry, threadbare freelance press agent (rather than a smooth PR account executive) is thoroughly anachronistic for the 1950s.

Milner was good Harrison was not. yes Tony stole the movie. Marty along with Marharis in Rt 66 made one of the best tv series ever made.
