Now DDs bip and bop so much in the water. The incredibly broken Gearing model has its back go fully out of the water and i bet you can probably shoot shells under it.
Retired Navy Gunner , from Bama , she's three hours away . When we were in school , we school kids raised nickles and dimes to help the restoration .. She's one of my favorite ships to play
I have visited HMAS Vampire in Sydney, The Fletcher Class DD in Boston, USS Missouri in Pearl Harbour and USS Midway in San Diego. The Midway blew me away. The family spent the whole day on her. The volunteers on board were amazing. Very passionate people and most were CV veterans. Thoroughly recommended. Oh, and all of them are in my port.
Having visited the museum ship HSwMS Småland, it is just hilarious how big the "small" destroyers are in real life! It´s a shame they removed a museum-ship instead of re-balance properly.
And now consider that all the ship models in the game are about twice as big as they are in real life, while engagement ranges are often shorter than in reality. Really tells about the scale of naval warfare in general.
Oh yes. I visited the Deutsche Marine Meseum in Wilhelmshaven and they had a "Lenkwaffenzerstörer" (Guided weapons destroyer) there and holy that thing was big. We were on there going the tour through it and it took us almost 2 hours. Was worth the visit.
@@Macaroni139 Well that's just anther way of saying the same thing. Ships are roughly two times bigger, which in terms of scale is the same as distances being two times shorter. The game is of course also sped up in many regards, like ship speed and shell travel.
I have the USS New Jersey right next to me, she’s an Iowa class battleships and the most decorated BB in the US navy. Plus she has the coolest name in my opinion, Black Dragon.
Had the same feeling once I got the Iowa. While I didn't see her IRL hull, I did tour her sister, USS New Jersey. The shear scale of her was astounding!
I had my most memorable game in her, land of fire. I was still a noob but my team supported and gave me a lot of direction as I kited away from a remaining cruiser and a Kansas. I manged to hold off until our remaining ship, a DD, capped. I learned from this, the importance of points, and most notably, how incredibly powerful teamwork can be in this game. The later is something you don't see often. I just got Massa B and took out Bama for kicks. NC is still my favorite of the three but they're memorable.
I got to visit the Alabama and the Texas when I moved from California to West Virginia, was absolutely amazing to visit both within a few days of each other. Was truly amazing.
I visited the Massachusetts with my kids over the summer and it was a fantastic experience. The sheer size and power of these ships is hard to wrap your head around.
I had the opportunity to actually spend the night on the Alabama way back when I was little, back when one of the quad 40mm AA mounts still would turn. It was a fantastic experience and I go back and visit her every so often. The fondness I have for the ship is why I ended up buying her in game and she is one of my favorite ships besides the Montpelier.
When I was 8 years old, we went on a tour inside and on the Alabama. It was one of my best memories of my childhood. The scale of the ship still amazes me.
USS North Carolina has access to a huge amount of the ship as well and is in pretty good shape as of the last time I was on her. She's in Wilmington NC.
My dad (WW 2 naval vet) and my brother (70s navy) visited the Alabama after my brother got out of the service and have pictures of my brother standing beside a 16 in shell (bigger than my brother) and they both loved the visit.

It's been 20 years since I visited Battleship Park in Mobile. What struck me the most about the Alabama is both how huge she is on the outside and how small some of the spaces are on the inside. Would've Loved to go on the USS Drum (the submarine there) but it was closed at the time.
The shitshow that was the alabama release... Brings back memories... Also Alabama was supposed to be a reward ship for supertesters only, but the drama happened...
I was lucky enough to go to battleship cove and be aboard the Massachusetts and a gearing that's gone through a few refits. Very neat. Love the artwork they put on her main battery like in IRL
I was on BB55 USS North Carolina 2 days ago. Inside 2 of the 16” turrets and bridge down through to boiler. I was on the Midway while she was on active duty in Yokosuka, Japan.
I've visited the Midway in San Diego, Iowa in LA, and USS Massachusetts, USS Joseph Kennedy Jr (Gearing class), USS Salem all in Massachusetts. They are truly incredible.
I remember the fury storm that WeeGee created when they announced that the Alabama was only going to be a reward ship for system testers. Happily WG reversed themselves on that decision and released the "bama to everyone. I believe ST's got a special version called the Alabama ST but I have never seen one in game.
The Midway is rated as the best according to the People who make museums. They were considering making the Kitty Hawk a museum, but all the troubles of keeping these ships as museums is costly and they used the Midway as "Far and away the best example". It's in San Diego.
Ive been to the North Carolina. Those ships are both larger and smaller than I imagined. The turrets are huge yet kinda crampy. The overall length of the ship isnt as far as I thought itd feel to walk either. It was an epic experience either way.
Thanks for highlighting this ship :) I have a fondness for this ship since she's right in my backyard (I live in central Alabama - I need to get back down to Mobile again). Thanks for the tip about needing an extra lead time for her main guns, I'd been having trouble with connecting my shots. I'll have to practice some more (I know, it's a hardship I'll just have to bear)
I already visited three ships from the game USS Midway, USS Iowa and ORP Błyskawica. I think best experience is Midway, but Iowa was my chilhood dream.
The 7% reduction in dispersion is a good deal. If you increase diameter by one inch you increases 3x. Reducing the ellipse by 7% is around a 21% reduction in area. That is why dead eye was great for all BBs and turned some into OP monsters. I had a chance, when in the USCGR, to have a classified tour of the USS Iowa when she visited Portland OR during a late 1980s Rose Festival. I couldn't get time off work.
Huh? No. The area of the ellipse is A = pi*a*b, where a and b are the semi-axes major and minor. If they both shrink by 7%, the area will shrink to 93% * 93% = 86.5% of what it was before. It's -13.5%, not -21% area.
@@landochabod7 Thanks for the correction. My horse shoe math was off. It is still significant and if you added in deadeye for an additional 10% then you have an accurate ship.
One of the things I noticed when visiting the USS North Carolina a few years back was how cramped the 5” gun mounts were. I wondered how the sailors manning those mounts must have been jammed in there.

They should add HMS Warrior. I mean, it could've "fought" in WW1 if Admiral Fisher didn't take it out of service. Add it at Tier 2 as an April Fools thing or something.
