When I went up the US cruiser line, Pensacola was a T7 and it was the most hated ship in the game. When the US cruisers got split into CA and CL she got demoted to T6 (CA) while the Cleveland was promoted to T8 (CL) from T6. Both were welcome changes.
Yes Pensacola had problems, especially too weak armour. Not only it was put to tier 6, it also got better bow armor later to really be a heavy cruiser.
I had so much fun with the old T7 Pensacola - everybody hated it, but I always had fun in it. Ironically the T6 version took me a bit to adjust to - technically much better, but the huge nerf to the turret rotation was rough for the way I played it.
I hated it as well and the minute I went up to the next level I sold her. Admittedly she was tier 7 and the Cleveland I kept her because she is great. Maybe I should buy her back again.

God, I remember grinding this thing out at T7 back in the day and finding it absolutely miserable to get through. I took over a three year break after getting close to the Des Moines and was shocked when I came back and saw my Cleveland and my Pensacola were at different tiers than they had been. Since I've returned however, my most successful ranked season I every did I was playing in this ship at T6, it really can do work and I'm glad I never sold it.
I'll never forget when I brawled a New Mexico in pepsicola at point blank range and won. Bounced an entire salvo that I thought was going to devstrike me and lobbed several volleys into his broadside and killed him lmao. Was really the first time I realized how strong this ship actually is, at least in the right circumstances and all that lol. Pepsican storng 💪

The Pepsi can allegory actually works perfectly. That can can take a lot of weight from the top - but it takes very little force to squish the middle (ie broadside) of the can.

The real problem with the citadel isn't that it's stepped, but that the midsection roof is also 25mm, allowing you to get overmatched through it even if the BB shooting you aimed too high or from weird angles
Pepsi... the tier 7 cruiser that exploded just when a BB aimed at you. This ship made me hate american cruisers above tier 6, but i loved Omaha and my "mini battleship" Cleveland. Still in love with my old crate Omaha.
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the PENsacola, she needs a special commander build to try and make the turrets turn at a decent rate. That said, she's great, no T6 Cleaveland, but still a strong T6 cruiser.
PepsiCola was and is very very good in the right hands When facing battleships it may not do so great but against cruisers..especially broadside you get reliable citadel damage
PQ with the Jinan, if going by the video running at 1/4 speed it shows you did NOT hit side armour, but the deck armour and a little fun fact added, when you fired Jinan turned bow in had it not reacted all 6 shells would have missed the Jinan, but it turned... And got hit twice on the deck both being a citadel hit.

That thing has similar armament, iirc, but never got the armour buffs or the tier change.
If you want the full battleship-LARP heavy cruiser experience go play Furutaka. The AP isn't as good as Pensacola's, but it has amazing armour (the best of the entire Japanese CA line, despite being a T5). It also has the other battleship feature of what I think is the longest reload on any 203mm guns in the game, like 20 seconds unupgraded.

Pensa is a very fun ship which many are aware of. So far, I've gotten up to 147k dmg in it, but it has headroom for much more than that. And at the same time, it can be rather helpless. I severely bullied one in an IFHE Omaha yesterday. He couldn't get *any* hits in on me and kept eating pens (and fires).
I'm glad you had fun in the Pensacola. I'll take her out for a battle or two pretty soon. The only real question I have is: what is that really cool looking camo on the ship? Is it a permanent camo? Is it expendable? At any rate, I enjoyed the video. Keep up the great content.
Hey PQ if you like the little black ribbons take out the OKHOTNIC with the 7x 130mm cannons on a DD. Ignoring the 12 torps of course. AP citz on most cruisers. Just watch the gun turning speed. Speed is not a word you would use for these guns.
The US cruiser lines are some the most consistent performers in the game. Pound for pound both the light and heavy lines are pretty much all pretty solid for their tiers (if played correctly ja ja I know)

use the Furutaka next. The only heavy cruiser at tier5. 16mm bow and stern but 51mm deck. The truest IJN troll armor. she only has 6 guns tho but it slaps real hard
Is fun comparing the differences in WoWs and WT’s naval side.. in WT for example, 32mm of bow armor doesn’t stop Jack shit. Even a 127mm AP shell is going straight through it

I don’t understand how he avoids getting cross map citadeled in this ship. Even against Tier VI BBs and cruisers, this ship is a shell magnet when I play it and rarely survives when I play against it.
Back in my old days where Furry Taco and Pepsicola are the worst CAs you can drive. Like ever. Furutaka back then was just Pain. The armor was alright but everything else is just horrible. You have 6 Turrets and each turret housing a Gun. Have Battleship Traverse speed and long ass reload. (20 seconds) yeah, Furutaka was just Pain from that. THANK GOD they changed the design to be at late war period. People now a days having “Easier Life” grinding IJN and USN cruisers. Like seriously for IJN Furry Taco will be the ultimate test for USN back then Pepsicola is the ultimate test. But again back then before IJN splits was also a good times. Fubuki with 3 turrets. Or Tier IX Kagero. Man… good times. I wish WG bring back 3 Turrets Fubuki
They do, all USN CAs have improved angles, that is the gimmick What Pensacola and NO dont have is the "super heavy AP", you get that with Baltimore (Wichita and Anchorage also have no" super heavy AP")
*sighs* i think im just not made for this game. I usualy get 80k dmg or below per match. Around 8/10 games. Maybe 2/10 below 40k. Only some times i get above 100k

Lowest tier I play is tier 7. Who the hell wanna play tier 6 cruisers? Everything at that tier just shit on cruisers. I think BBs at tier 7 are pretty good like those new ones Teng She and Lugdunum or even some tier 6 BBs but cruisers? No heal/radar and you are just food for BBs.

I know this aint shiprequest, but citadelling bb's made me yell "kirov! Try kirov!" Though Iguess it isnt available anymore, but its a fun boat :)
