A cool product from Walksnail. I can think of uses for it. Events like snow board chases down a mountain. Seems like getting the repeater up high would be best, like strapping it to the bottom of a DJI Inspire. Be interesting to what people do with it, and how they set it up. Happy flying everyone. 😎
It's perfect for the war, all things go out now in the hobby it's focus to this way. Sad for one way and good for other way, the hobbies loses here for bad uses on drones. Nice product and review !
@18:31 that thing is cool! as for the ws repeater, it seems cool but no control signal repeated. Maybe Walksnail is ready to integrate a control link into their transmission?
I'd be really interested in an ELRS relay video. I *think* the CRSF coming out of the ELRS RX can be fed into the JR-bay pins on the back of the repeating module? I thought about trying this with my Crossfire TX a while back but didn't get around to it. An ELRS repeater, especially 2.4Ghz at the handset to 900Mhz on the plane, would be really interesting for 1) TX antenna placement, higher/above obstructions and 2) flying from indoors in the winter!
Great video, Gal. I was watching drones deliver supplies to homes in the mountains of N. Carolina and they used Mavic quads with repeaters. Very cool 4shO. Way out of my price range, though...🍻
Looks like Hollywood money product! Use cases: filmmakers, extreme sports/ tv, search and rescue, police and fire reconnaissance work. Installation security patrol flights. Probably not for most hobbyists? Except our crazy long range friends.
Thank you for bringing out a very important fact. So if I fly closer to me to land and the repeater antenna are not pointed towards me as is going to be most of the cases my video link is going to be weaker. That's going to an issue.
How would you be able to use the Goggles L? I saw the video released by caddx and they require you to change the antennas on the goggles x to 5.1Ghhz antennas. the goggles L do not have the ability to do that?
Yes that's something that I should have mentioned in the video. Yes - it will work however it won't be optimal since changing the antennas cannot be easily done. Same goes for the patch antennas of the VRX.
This is only useful for very specific purposes, I can't imagine someone placing the repeater 2~5 km away simply to improve reception.. You can simply move to a suitable location in order to get better reception.
@@mplouis that’s about the same price for a HD video receiver for most UHD filming rigs with transmitters being similar. If it gets over 1000ft or 1w it is what it is right now. Octapads are silly looking though.
testing in the worst environment possible, all those wifi routers and only being 4 feet off the ground is no where near real world unless you only fly around your neighborhood at head height to hit neighbors in head

Nice to see someone actually test this!
😎
Thanks for the review.. wish to see it tested on the field. Please update the tests. Love from Malaysia 🇲🇾 FPV Pilot.
My pleasure, thanks for watching!

Hopefully they will do it down the line.

Yes, the product I showed briefly in the video should allow you to easily create such a relay system.
There are already SBUS forwarding boxes sold on Taobao in China, which can relay remote control signals.
👍
Thank you for opening the case!!
No worries!

Fantastic review, Gal! Thanks a bunch!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you! You too!
Why didn't they make the TX side RP-Sma and the rx side sma. And are the antennas Moxon or patch antennas?
Probably to save some costs. Good point though.
That's awesome and it looks like a robot octopus

Yes indeed 👍
Hi Gal, Great video and review of the Avatar Repeater.
Thank you 🤗
LET'S GO!
what would be the estimated range for this?
According to Caddx it should extend the range by 4KM.
I wish they had something better@@KremerFPV
@@providenceagent2372 how far do you want to go? 😉

How much latency does it add?
I didn't test it. I can guesstimate about 40ms but I didn't test it.
@@KremerFPVThat would make any proximity fpv drone flying almost impossible
Nice review, Gal!
You didn't mention how much range you gained using the repeater.
500 bucks is too much for what seems to be a half-baked product...
Thank you! It pretty much doubled the range but keep in mind that the test was not done under ideal conditions.

It can be good for cinematic productions and you csn also use it as a wireless ground station.
Does it work for.... DJI AVATA2
No, only Walksnail.
That monitor is what inch bro? I think i need one

If only it reached colombia for some of that pure pure.
LOL
Why changing vrx/goggle antenas to RHCP will help? I was thinking all the same type is the right way to go... am i wrong?
Just to be clear - the antennas on both VTX/Repeater VTX or VRX / Repeater VRX port should use the same polarization.
It's weird how it seems every company is focused on big quads and long range now, I wonder why lol.
@@thirtythreeeyes8624 hope for cinematic 😏
it is nice, but i thought it would cost around 200$, not 500$

I'm very interested in this product but at over 500 dollars I will have to pass
Yes it's definitely not priced for everyone. Hopefully the price will come down if there will be enough demand.

Sorry but for now that’s what I could come up with. Hopefully we’ll see more tests pushing the system to its limits soon 🍻
