Frank is one of the greatest vocalist ever. If you want an easy list of songs I would suggest listening to “Sinatra at the Sands”! It really is him at his prime.
My favorites are “One for My Baby”, “The September of My Years”, “It Was a Very Good Year”, “New York, New York”, and “My Kind of Town”. There are SO many… and if you’re looking for great versions of Christmas songs, look no further than Frank! He has 2 albums of Christmas music and they are required listening every year for my family.

The song has so much impact because of who Frank Sinatra was. He was friends with Presidents and gangsters and moved between those two worlds effortlessly. His voice, his phrasing and his ability to deliver a lyric is unmatched. I was a bit shocked to hear that you had never even heard of him. Damn I must be getting old.

Sinatra turned 50 years old in 1965. He addressed this milestone with a theme album, "September of My Years." Every song is about aging. "It Was A Very Good Year" is sentimental and sweet, and probably my favorite song on the album. But a half-dozen are classics with awards and huge audiences. It's a good intro to Sinatra.
But there is much more. "Songs for Swingin' Lovers" and "In the Wee Small Hours" from the mid-1950s define the popular music of that era. Sinatra released five albums in 1961 and they are all awesome.
Sinatra was known as "The Voice." He was probably the world's most popular singer for 15 or 20 years. He had a good film career too. It is so nice to see someone of your generation able to recognize his genius and appreciate his singing.

You might like Bing Crosby, as well. He was a Big Band era singer, and actor. The Big Band era was roughly from the early 1900's to the 1940's, or maybe slightly longer. Canadian singer Paul Anka was on vaccation somewhere along the French riviera. In the lobby of his hotel he heard a guy playing this song and immediately loved it in fact so much he asked the guy right there and then if he could by the rights to the song! What he claims he did it with Sinatra in mind who at that time was fed up with Showbiz and was thinking about retirement. When Paul came back to the US he got in contact with Sinatra and gave him the song. Sinatra loved it as well and it became his anthem a song he closed every show with until his death.

The original song from France is called, Comme d'habitude which means 'As Usual". David Bowie was hired to write English lyrics to the original tune, which he called "Even a Fool Learns to Love.", but then Paul Anka gave it a go and that is the song "My Way" that Frank ended up singing. The success of "My Way" instead of his song motivated Bowie to write "Life on Mars?" as a parody of Sinatra's recording.

You need to listen to the studio version. Live is fantastic. In the studio with Frank in full voice and the orchestra is perfection. I didn't realize until I was older when I heard earlier Sinatra, what a special and epic voice he had. No one can sing as rich, and smooth as Frank. Dean Martin was silky smooth, but Frank was like a shot of expresso. Vibrant, powerful, and oh so good.

Yes! Very confident! He was the chairman of the board. I didn't mention this before, but that was one of his nicknames that he was known by. I told you he was the king of that era pre rock n roll in the 40s and 50s, and a lot of those singers like Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr., as well as other celebrities would run around together in a group that's usually referred to as "The Rat Pack", and Frank Sinatra was always the boss. He was a tough guy that had a big ego, and you could even go as far as to say he was a bully. I don't know if it's true, but there were always stories that in his younger days he was connected with the Mafia, and he kind of acted like he was a mob boss. You can even say he was kind of a dick, but he got away with it because it wasn't unwarranted. He was beloved all the same, and really did earn his swagger. All the other crooners looked up to him, respected him, and probably kissed his ass, for a reason. He really was that big of a deal. In a room full of celebrities, he was the King that held court amongst his subjects. Frank, and the rest of the Rat Pack, also made movies, and all kinds of other stuff too. Very iconic to that time in America.
This is unrelated, but in the 80s, there was also "The Brat Pack". Which was a group of young actors that were popular. I don't think you've even done any John Hughes movies yet, which is a whole other thing in itself. He was a Director/Writer/Producer that was hugely popular in the 80s, that did, well some different stuff, but is mainly known for a lot of comedies about teenagers, that were sometimes infused with a little drama, and commentary on the culture of the time, and a lot of the Brat Pack came out of his movies. The legend goes, that he wrote so much, that the trunk/boot of his car would be full of scripts, and you could just grab any one at random, and just take it and make it into a movie, and it would be successful. Some he Directed himself, and some he'd produce for others to direct, and he's responsible for a lot of iconic films from that era. "The Breakfast Club" is one of my favorites from my childhood that I'd love to see you react too!

The Chairman of the Board. The Voice. Old Blue Eyes. I've been lucky to have seen Frank in person, living here in Vegas. Every time, it was special. There will never be another Frank Sinatra.

You should consider watching a Frank Sinatra movie on your other channel. Movies where he sings, On the Town (1949) or Guys and Dolls (1955) or movies where he doesn't sing, From Here to Eternity (1953) or The Manchurian Candidate (1962).

"The Chairman Of The Board", best nickname to have bestowed upon you! Frank Sinatra embraced and came to embody that name! Great reaction!

Frank Sinatra is one of the best crooner music of all time. There was an old jazz bar in Baltimore that we would go to and decompress after work, having a bourbon and listening to Frank on the jukebox. Being a homicide detective in Baltimore; these memories are some of the best. Frank Sinatra could soothe the soul. Fly me to the moon was a favorite.

Probably recommend New York, New York and Strangers In the Night . He was also an actor in movies. A legend of the 20th Century.😎

Sinatra's daughter did "These boots are made for walking". Also, check out Mel Torme, he's another great "crooner".

One of the Greatest Him, Tony Bennet and Bing Crosby are what the good old days used to be. The real Stars of music. Love the swag that they carry. Too bad that we will never see the lights of them again. Love you, Frank

Oh Lord, what a difficult choice. You do realize that Frank Sinatra's career started in the 30's and was active until his death in 1998. He is considered by many to be one the most influential artists of the 20th century. He released 59 studio albums and 297 singles. I'll offer some choices from his classics (like that really narrows down my options). I would recommend "Luck be a Lady," "Fly Me to the Moon," "The Lady is a Tramp," "All I Need is the Girl," "Me and My Shadow" w/Sammy Davis Jr., and "It was a Very Good Year." Needless to say, this barely scratches the surface.

You should do one from his prime in the 50s & even early 60s! This performance is from very late in his career when his voice is beginning to diminish a bit -- a little scratch and waiver here & there, a little trouble hitting some notes exactly on target & having to adjust... While still an awesome video, he's even more amazing earlier in his career. Thank you for reacting to and appreciating The Master, though!! ❤❤❤❤

I do love his earlier material and my collection goes all the way back to his time with Tommy Dorset. But in my opinion, the Reprise years are his best and it is the roughness that comes into his voice that makes it so. Like Billie Holiday, Sinatra's vocal imperfections add character to the music that is not present in their earlier work.

@@childlessdoggentleman746 I agree, but this is such a late performance that it's not just the weathered quality of voice he grew into over the years, but simply a little age making it harder for him to nail some of the softer passages -- control. I agree re Reprise period -- coming back after his time off, developing his mid-career, new voice was when he really won me over & made me a fan. (Even though I was a young rock & roller, 'Ala Elvis & The Beatles, Frank, Buddy Rich, Nat King Cole & a few other Old School artists had me as well.)

My Way is basically an english cover of a french song "comme d'habitude" from Claude François released in 1967. Paul Anka heard the song during a tour in France that year and bought the rights for an english version. He wrote the text and released his version in 1968, one year before Frank Sinatra in 1969. Still Sinatra's version is the best!
