I'm glad to see that Narwhal is still making pens in the under $100 range, where they originally started. That's definitely a beautiful blue pen!

I've never used a vac-filler, but I fly overseas a lot - so far without mishap! A vac-filler seems like a smart choice for me. In this line, I like the Altifrons Green. Excellent review as always, Doug. Thank you.

I am so pleased to see the spread of the vac-fill mechanism. This pen is especially intriguing, despite the fact that it doesn’t really post, and I do like that ‘ocean/water/fishes’ feeds the color palette. All of the colors offered are especially good, though I am really drawn to the green-and its Amazon fish.

I'm just starting to learn enough about fountain pens to take it seriously and I'm so excited to find a hobby that I actually enjoy. This feels like such a niche interest but I've found such a cool community here.

I love the variety of Narwhal finishes! Elegant and so pleasant looking at the same time! I love the blue and the green one! That was so generous of them to provide you with the pens to test and offer.

Its nice to win something, but I really appreciate your knowledge. I don't know why I like the technical people like you and Doodlebud, but I do. It's not only that you have that particular mindset, but that you also have a real appreciate of beauty and the joy that a fountain pen can bring into a person's life. Thanks for your videos.

Your attention to form and function of this pen in particular remind me of a taxonomist describing a rare beatle from Darwin’s collection or of a new species of dinosaur from Mongolia. Of this particular pen I have not possessed this type of ink pump and would be more than delighted with the blue version. Btw, best wishes on your vacation.

I have a couple of the Narwhal pens and do truly enjoy the details with piston filling system. The original series of Schuylkill resins left me a bit disappointed, but the Dragonet Sapphire seems to have redeemed the brand. Is that vac fill all that it seems to be? Interesting? Yes indeed!

I only have 1 vac-filler (Asvine) but I am becoming a fan - I like the concept of locking the ink in so it won't leak! Of the four colours I am partial to the blue or green - I saw some photos on the internet that seem to show them better than the camera

Yes, but Wing Sung had a vac filler for less than 5 euros: the 2013. Still can be seen on Amazon, I believe. I have 4 colors, and they do write! Some of them with a little work, that's true, but less than 5 euros... 🙂

  • @thorhilda
    @thorhilda 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

When faced with choosing between four equally appealing colours, I usually rely on my instinct and choose the first one that seems right. However, this time I'm finding it difficult to choose between the Melacara Purple fountain pen and the others. To get out of this predicament, because my first fountain pen was purple, I am arbitrarily continuing the tradition by choosing purple.
Thank you for comparing similar pens and checking whether their parts are compatible across brands. This is very useful.

I'm impressed with the way the Nahvalur folks keep improving their pens while still keeping them affordable. I'm a fan of the Gold Ocellatus resin in this model, but I hate gold hardware, so I'd probably go with the Altifrons Green.

I would have to say my favorite color of the Nahvalur Orginal + is that lovely Azureus Blue. Of course, I would love it if Nahvalur would expand their nib selections to include a true extra-fine nib.
Incidentally, I have a Narwhal Peter Pen original edition that fell from my shirt pocket when bending over, landing on a tile floor. It broke at exactly that "break point" you indicated.
Enjoy your trip to the lower 48 south of the 49th!

Unfortunately I do not subscribe to Instagram or any of the social media platforms. I was on Facebook and was hacked. So, there you go.
Beautiful pen. I thought about getting the Original plus but I have enough pens to keep me occupied for a while. Perhaps during 2023. It looks like it is up to the standards set by Nahvalur. I do like that the section can be unscrewed for maintenance. It would make cleaning the inside of the barrel easier.
    Great review, Doug.

Apparently they fixed their nib width, I have an original one with F nib and one in blue, like you tested here, also in F, but somehow they are as if the old F was in fact Medium. The newer one has a true Fine nib. Nonetheless, lovely pens and at that pricepoint, I'd say they are hard to beat. Also, congratulations on reaching 10k subs, keep up the work sir, we enjoy the content!

I am eager to try this pen in purple with a fine nib. My favorite color is purple, my default when it’s hard to chose among beautiful colors. The blue and yellow swirl options are definitely note-worthy. I recently tried the Schuylkill in Chromis Teal. The pen is beautiful and felt good in hand, but I had a few issues with inconsistent flow. I tried your tips to increase flow by gently applying pressure to tines and noticed some improvement. But I think I should have gotten the F instead of M nib.

Thanks for the comparison with PenBBS 456 posted - which is awaiting on my desk to be inked for the first time. Nahvalur seems to be designed long enough for no posting; does it feel heavier in the hand than 456? As this is my first vacuum filler, it feels heavy for a small pen.
Ah, the colour. Usually I go for browns or reds, and here the one to attract my eye is the blue one. I hope they will update the collection with an amber colour, can be called "sepia"!

Hi, Doug. Great review as always! Thank you for your continued work bringing us top notch info. and tips. The consistency, humour, and refreshingly natural approach of these videos is a huge strength. (Oh, and I think my favourite one of these Narwhals/Nahvalurs is the azureus - those Romans knew a good blue when they saw one!).
