Every time something on my Acura breaks this guys videos are what I end up on figuring out how to get to the part or pull it out. Guess i'll just watch the rest of the videos to see what else I can expect to break on me.
The sock (screen) on the bottom, which for you is all torn to shreds, is NOT the fuel filter. It is merely there to prevent any damaging debris from getting into the workings of the pump. The top portion of the assembly is the actual fuel filter; it really is the car's fuel filter. (I know it doesn't look anything like an ordinary fuel filter, but it is.) Since getting to the pump (or filter) is a job in and of itself, it's a good idea when in there to replace both no matter which you're trying to replace. (Sort of like replacing the water pump when changing a timing belt.)
The top portion of the fuel pump assembly is not the fuel filter. The fuel filter is located on the fuel line between the fuel tank and fuel rail. It looks like a miniature Campbell's soup can, with a nipple on both ends.
That's not actually the filter. It's a strainer / sock (pre-filter). How many miles on that engine ? Mine has 304,000 and I'm still on the original pump. Looks like water got inside that tank and led to pre-mature failure of the pump.
A bad fuel pump will either run, or not run. You probably have a bad plug, coil or injector. Or possibly a bad MAF sensor. Provided you have good compression and timing is correct.
@microfarmers that's not necessarily true it's an electric motor it could get weak or slow before it dies completely, but I would test the fuel pressure before changing the pump.
I just bought a 2003 Type S, seemed to run fine, but stalled twice while going maybe 60 MPH, dosnt have any issues other wise, do these sometimes have a soft fail? I need to check fuel pressure next I guess.
I had a new fuel pump installed and then I drive it for two or three miles then it vapor locks on me I have to wait for 5 minutes and then it will start again

I just installed a new fuel pump thinking it was the reason why my 2003 Acura TL stalls/cut off while driving and wouldn’t start. still doing the same thing. Any other suggestions?
I'm working on a 99 Acura TL and I'm pretty sure the fuel pump has failed. The car stalled in traffic and will crank over, but not start. This one has about 335,000 miles on it. As far as I know the fuel pump has never been replaced before. Did the pump fail in your car?

I changed the fuel pump, strainer, and relay on that car because it has extremely high mileage and is used every day for errands, food deliveries, and even lawn equipment hauling. Recently the car stalled in traffic and wouldn't restart & idle. It would start up and immediately stall. I could keep it running with the gas pedal though. I took the idle air valve off the bottom of the throttle body and cleaned the rotating door inside. It was stuck shut from all the carbon & soot build-up. I cleaned it with contact cleaner & MAF cleaning spray, and the car has run really smoothly ever since. There was never a check engine light or ECU trouble codes, even when the car stalled and wouldn't stay running. It just assumes you know what's wrong hahaha! I hope your car runs as long as this one! I'm amazed how well it drives for 338,000 miles.
My 2002 Acura TL Type S died on me while on the road. Lights, honk, all electronic works, I waited around 10 to 15 minutes to start the car again and after seconds it started shaking as if it ran out of gas and died again. Could it be that the pump is not handling the heat anymore after driving a couple of minutes and that's why the motor shuts off? Will this replacements on the video fix my problem or could it be a different issue? Thank you.
@LetMeSeeThis99 yes sir then he can check the fuel pump. I had the same issue where it died on my while driving problem was fuel pump.(very easy to replace ya self)
Did anyone figure it out? Ive replace so much and still barely starts up. Rpms jump and drop while driving. Delay in pedal reaction. Delay in turn over. Rough loud idle
@@bayleigh1225 try taping it while car runningand see if the car runs any different, if ur still not sure do u have a check engine light ? Mine threw a code for the air idle control valve

I learned a lot. Currently, my Acura would run rough when I would start it. Sometimes it would die. I suspect my fuel pump might be on its last leg🤔

I took the idle air valve off the bottom of the throttle body and cleaned the rotating door inside. It was stuck shut from all the carbon & soot build-up. First, is there an engine light code? How many miles are on this vehicle?

Did you check the fuel relay chip under the dash next to the steering column. Mine did the same on my 2001 CL Type S in my 2001 TL
