It's just a way for the Malaysian Custom officers to further filter and slow down the speed of the bikes to make things more manageable. At their peak times.... hundreds of bikes flood this area at the same time.
You should be able to fit in the left most (closest) lane at SG side and the last lane at JB side. These lanes are wider for bigger bikes such as Goldwing and 3-wheelers.
Currently, for motorbikes, no need for tolls or the such. Thus, just bring passport and cash for your spending while at the Johor side. If planning to exchange SGD for Malaysian Ringgit (RM) there are a few money changers just behind the Shell kiosk. Bring $100 sgd for the exchange. Probably gives u RM300 and above. Any lesser denomination of SGD gives less favourable exchange rates.

They only stamp date on passports, not hours and minutes, so no problem. Almost all of these trips are done within a day
