Thks Ryan! So glad that you took the effort to debunk all these myths 👍👍👍 Safety is where u place yourself to be. If one chooses to be complacent and take unnecessary risks, then safety will always be a concern wherever you are.
when it comes to safety, sg is an exception in the world so cannot compare. sg also have their fair share of crimes too. us and europe is way worst! however jb and my have lots of awesome things that sg can never have. actually no point comparing both countries. just enjoy both and appreciate their beautiful uniqueness too!
Dangerous place indeed! Personally, i have experienced the dangers in different forms - extortions by 18:05 police, robbery, exploitations. First hand accounts and revelations of their terrifying encounters by both johorean contractors working in Spore and Sporean friends serve to underscore the real dangers. Why choose to put yourself in harm's way? To quote my Msian friend "Even if you are in danger, I won't dare to help you." Foreigners stand out on foreign soil (even if geographically the distance is just 2km apart) are visible and easy targets for predators. When law enforcement people are also in that count - what do or can you expect? Fool me again? No way.
I visit JB for a game of golf. I don't wear a watch and keep a low profile. After a game of golf, we enjoy a meal at a restaurant and go home. So far, no problem
Sometimes the surge for grab can be insane . We took grab from ksl to Ikea Ternbau for Rm12 which is cheap. When we were going back it cost RM 60 which is 5 times for tue same distance

Yup, totally! Not to bash some Singaporeans but if you can can't try to venture outside for the sake of choking fishballs and tofu (Chinese saying) don't travel outside of SG. Singapore is very safe but not the Safest. If you look at the crimes in Singapore, you will begin to question your thinking and mentality. My honest take is how safe is really depending on which part you go and how do you present yourself (like wearing many expensive items and very obvious). I have colleague who was robbed twice and cases for kopi money is not uncommon. My JB friends themselves also say when they go back JB they usually dont dare walk dark alleys or solo during night unless driving in car. There was once my hotel reception told me not to walk the alley nearby as a Chinese was robbed recently (but yes this was some time ago during period when just opening up after covid). So far I have never gotten into any incident because I always take precaution. So I feel JB is safe only if you take precaution, but is it really considered as safe in this sense then?
TQ for your feedback. I think people need to compare similar scenarios in really any other city outside of Singapore and I think they are basically the same. Personally my opinion is Singapore being too safe in general "dull" some of the senses for this kind of thing when we go overseas.

@davidwee1975 I'm offering my opinion yes and in my opinion, the 'safety' issue in JB is hugely overblown and not compared apple to apple. I hope people spend more time in JB and see its not as bad as they perceive it to be.
