It’s actually really sad to hear that this may have been an one-off. It’s incredibly touching and builds onto both Superman and Shazam as characters in a way that many people can resonate with
Right, I wished we could have seen Clark guiding his kid side and Superman his superhero. Letting my imagination fly: Bruce Wayne is involved as a benefactor friend of Clark. Then as Shazam he goes on adventures with other superheroes, but becomes friends with Jaime Reyes, Impulse and the batboys who train him but also teach them on how to be superhero and a friend. End of imagination.
Superman actually acting like Superman. Tugging at the heartstrings the only way he knows how. I can already hear “You Got a Friend in Me” playing in the background.
Superman realizing he was talking to a child and then chewing out a cosmic entity to its face before taking a lost kid under his wing is easily the most Superman thing I've seen in comics since All Star. Brilliant and inspiring.
I love this story. Instead of Shazam and Superman fighting each other there collaborating together as brothers or father and son Duo. This small story almost brings me to tears.
This is one of my favourite Captain Marvel stories. After my wife and I saw the movie on Thursday, we actually discussed this storyline, and the anger that Superman expressed regarding the Wizard's use of Billy Batson. Great job, keep up the good work!
When Billy lost his friend, I was nearly crying. That is kinda powerful. Seeing a Superman-alike character alone atop a mountain, devastated. Superman is an adult... But Billy is as innocent as they come...
Wow, I actually cried after this. This story hit home deep. A kid with so much potential abandoned and resentful just needing guidance and mentorship from a seasoned vet, a hero. He's just a kid, with potential
This man was incredibly active at what he did and how glorified he made everything he presented, the quality production and quantity itself is staggering, having accomplished so much and yet so much left to immortalize him in, it's the most passion I've seen someone kept in what he loved to do. I keep going through older materials and it feels like it's a forever of endless content.
This is my favorite story ever shown in my opinion. It's a beautiful concept and so well done to actually show that relationship and Superman opening up to someone completely trusting them. Also just love the clear anger on Supermans face when he realizes what happened to this child.
I love how Superman starts off ready to duke it out with Captain Marvel, but then drops straight into concern upon seeing what appears to be a grown-up superhero sobbing, only to then take a tire peeling left turn onto Righteous Anger Blvd. upon discovering Captain Marvel is actually a young boy. He didn't lecture him. He didn't lecture him. He didn't yell at him or scold him. All Superman did was ask, "Who did this to you?"
Stories like these are what blur the lines between marvel and Dc and reveal what superheroes truly are. Heartfelt stories that have emotional meanings and convey a message. Truly amazing💯💯💯
This is hands down my favorite Captain Marvel/Shazam book. I love it. It's the perfect marriage of the classic Billy Batson and Captain Marvel and a contemporary setting. It's also a solid Superman book. I get the love New 52 Shazam has his fans and I get it, but this story. Thanks for sharing Benny.
This story is pretty good, maybe DC should make an animated movie about it. I like the idea of Superman being a mentor to Billy. Would work even moreso with Superman Son + Billy eventually becoming friends since they are the same age range.
whaaaaaaat was this a coincidence? There is an animated movie Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam 2010 ‧ Short/Animation ‧ 1h 3m your friend idea is pretty cool, i wish i could see a story like that too. tho rebirth and new 52 Shazam is quite a bit older i think. oh wait i think they aged superboy up by a whole lot recently. i wonder if superboy and robin is ever gonna team up again?
@@leotsang4681 I saw that movie lol completely forgot about, but I meant more in a mentor type of thing. In that movie it's pretty much like this story not so much as in Billy being shown the ropes & getting guidance.
the last parts where really nicely done both in the comic and in the v.o/music ... it was nice touches that superman didnt arrive when shazam was choking thadeus AND when superman yells at shazam back at the mountain everest he just waits to see wtf is happening when he sees shazam crying...overall its a really nice story
Truly one of the best Shazam stories written. Love how they portrayed Superman as well. Superman understands the burden of being a superhero and how dangerous it is not only for him but also his loved ones. That's why he's so pissed off at the wizard for granting Billy those powers because as he rightly said that such a burden should not be given to a child to bear. Kids should be spending their childhood going to school, playing wirh their friends, etc not risking their lives as superheroes.
I remember when this came out and it was a digital one shot. Never saw anything afterwards although I think the Superman/Shazam animated movie came out at around the same time. Get well soon Benny.
This was a mini series from 2005. They didn't make any more after and it was josh Middleton post runaways one off series. He got to reimagine Shazam, a few artists got to do this like Jeff smith
This is a really cool storyline. I really like Billy Batson. Superman being Superman. My heart strings were ringing with him helping Captain Marvel and giving advice like a big dad.
That ENDING is so Powerful I hate this is just a one-off story because of Superman's Compassion after finding the truth of Shazam and shared his secret with Billy just like that
This was actually a comic book first. Im not sure if theres more but this is the comic the Superman/Shazam animated movie was loosely based on. Ive got part 1 of the actual physical comic in my collection, found it at my local comic shop in a dollar bin during the time the Blackest Night series was taking place.
MORE CAPTAIN MARVEL! I LOVE THESE OLD STORIES. Funny enough, I think the new 52 comics are approved the entire Captain Marvel family except for Billy Battson himself. And you'd think they'd just call him plain Marvel as apposed to calling him Shazam, which is already the wizard's name, especially considering that they replaced the people who his powers come from. I also really hate that. It also means that even his powers are different. He's effectively less of who he originally was.
Awesome story! Thanks. I'm on my way to show my soon-to-be-10-year-old Nephew the movie *_'SHAZAM!' (2019),_* which I saw last night. This was a very appropriate posting, though yes, it made me cry. Keep up the good work, Benny!

You guys are awesome! It may have been 4 years ago but the fact that I can hear a snippet from a short then look for the book and have it read to me with such... Authority... is pretty freaking cool
holy shit that story is so good. that death actually hit, i LOVE that he actually got angry and almost stepped over the line. that ill crush your head part was great. i wish they would adapt this story into the DCEU for shazams like 2nd or 3rd movie or somethin for how he meets superman an all that.

It's a one off but they made a movie/short that's kind of a sequel.
Superman actually acting like Superman. Tugging at the heartstrings the only way he knows how. I can already hear “You Got a Friend in Me” playing in the background.

Guys, the TH-cam algorytm just seems to hate you. I barely see any of your videos ever, and I watch them all the time.
Make sure you hit the like button on every video you watch you have to teach the algorithm that this is something you want to see

The shazam movie was awesome. I love the situational humor. Everytime the seven enemies were on screen, it felt like a humor movie.
I just found out today about your passing. I've enjoyed your work. Please rest in peace.
This should be the first Shazam movie in James Gunn’s DCU. Followed by a Shazam: The Power of Hope short. Then a Superman/Shazam vs Black Adam movie.
