1:22 might just be my favourite golf shot of all time. The rhythm and balance is just sublime, like a sigh of beauty. Remember watching it at the time and it's lost none of its magic.

I love how Faldo hits a hole in the one at the ryder cup, quick celebration, and just walks off to get it. no jumping around, no fist bumps or chest pumping like we see these days!....class!

I think there are two ways to look at that. Tiger was one of the players who brought fist pumping and excitement to golf. Where do you think golf would be today if nothing had changed since the old days?

    • @darren767

Ekis86 I think it would be exactly the same. tiger has done great things for golf, nothing bad to say there, but its come from more than that!...everyone does it, American and European. obviously there has been odd occasions where the line was crossed (Brookline) , but I dont have a problem with the big celebrations. but I still think Faldo oozes class with his reaction. that was the point I was making.

I think if we want golf to democratise it self we have to cross the lines even more

Ekis86 Just my preference, but the old saying, « Act like you done it before « seems to be a classier way for all athletes to handle themselves.

I still cry when I see Seve and Nick there.

When Seve hugs you like that you’d know you’re one of the all time greats

Seve's tears at the end said it all, for a man like him to be so overcome with the emotion. For Nick to get down in two from where he was showed so much about his steel, his determination, and for the European Ryder Cup team.

Many people put Hogan ahead of Faldo as a player as he won more Majors. It should be remembered that in Hogans day there were about 10 great players, in Faldos day more like 100. Faldos game matched Hogans in every aspect from driving, iron play, preparation, course management and killer instinct. But in short game and putting Faldo had the edge.

In todays “bombing” game, Faldo just stands out head and shoulders with smooth rhythm and accuracy. The man was a machine. Practice practice practice

Oosterhuis looked after Faldo in 1977. Fast forward 20 years. Fado does the same to Lee Westwood. Lee Westwood has never forgotten it. As has Faldo

Unfortunately, Westwood did forget after Faldo captained the Euros.

Probably the best player Europe ever produced in the Ryder Cup. Garcia may have passed him on points, but Faldo had much tougher opponents to deal with. Very sad what’s happened to Peter Oosterhuis.

I can't get my head around why Nick Faldo is slated by a lot of people, he was a great player and a great champion what more did he have to do? As far as I can tell he wasn't very nice to the press, a relentless bunch of wannabes.

    • @siheath3648
      @siheath3648 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

He was and still is popular with golf fans but he was never popular with his peers or the press. Most likely because of his natural awkwardness at times which often led him to do and say daft things, think about his 2008 Ryder Cup Captain's speech. Also because of his single minded approach to the game and being a natural loner, he was often perceived as aloof or even arrogant by fellow pros, respected yes, liked no.

@@siheath3648 are you referring to the "heart of my bottom" remark?
The press get everything they deserve in my opinion, and as for being a loner, they don't get more insular than woods or mickleson and they don't get the kind of vitriol faldo got.
He was a winner and that came with everything that that entailed.

@@pbysome I don't disagree with you about the press or Woods and Co but it's not too difficult to understand why some people disliked Faldo and I gave you some factual reasons why that might be the case
