      I think their called "contact balls" more of a juggling type thing, someone showed be once, they can produce amazing visual illusions cause when they are spinning you really can't tell, they look the same as when they are motionless

    What could they improve? A discount price for the competitors, we register at the same price than the regular conventionners, but can't see 70% of the convention 🤯
    But from what I saw in St Vincent, here are ideas:
    -competitions shouldn't end too late, the last competitors performed on front of an almost empty room, that's very difficult to be judge at the same level than the others who had good reactions because... there was an audience 😅
    - to keep: the themed nights and parties! Very VERY good ideas!! The way the award ceremony was done, with all the competitors of the same category on stage to get one final round of applause before the awards are announced is also an amazing thing!
    - to create: maybe some live of stream events to share a little of what happens at fism on the Web, to make people want to come to the next one!!
    These are the firsts things that pop in my head, but I'm sure there are many more things to say and to come up with, it's good that you'll help them! And it was great meeting you there!! 😉

      totally agree. competitors see almost nothing.

    • @MaxRide1
      @MaxRide1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      never been to one but that's INSANE that the competitors aren't allowed to see 70% of the convention (or rather, it's insane they don't get to see all of it). I've NEVER heard of an event where the performers/competitors/key people aren't allowed in the rest of the convention... that's so.. odd and doesn't make sense.. who the hell came up with that stoopid idea??

    • @silviaagnello8677
      @silviaagnello8677 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Competitors can access to all the events!
      They have to do the rehearsal (10-15 minutes) and compete (10 minutes). They are free to enjoy the convention during the rest of the week.
      There aren't restrictions!
      I have met competitors at the dealer's hall, lectures, workshops, parties and gala shows.
      I am sorry you had this feeling of missing out 😢❤

    • @RobinDeville
      @RobinDeville 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@silviaagnello8677 of course competitors have access. But did you already compete at FISM? Do you have any idea of the stress generated and the focus needed? I did compete in 3 FISM until now, including this one of course. With all the focus I needed and the stress, I only had the time and opportunities to attend 2 lectures and one late party. And I'm 100% sure that if you ask any FISM competitor, they'll tell you exactly the same thing 😉
      Making the competitors pay the same amount than the other conventioners while they are the main attraction and don't have the opportunity to attend to the majority of the events, I think magic competition is the only place where you see this. And fism should give the example, like for example having a 50% discount just for the competitors. That's just an improvement idea, as it was asked by Chris 😉

    That speech at the end, great insight for everybody there. I would've dropped any sort of love I had for magic should it not have been for your channel. If people refuse to post magic online new eyes won't get to see that magic, people don't really go out of their way to see a magic show anymore unless it's something they already enjoy so I feel like it's very important for people like you to be doing these videos so you can bring new eyes on the art that is magic :) Have an awesome day Chris!

    That was a great speech which I couldn't agree more with. I know some card tricks, half of them I might be able to perform correctly and convincingly enough to fool friends or family (maybe). So, by no means am I a magician, I just find magic so intriguing. From close up coin magic, to full stage Vegas performances, is all very fascinating to me. Regardless of whether I already know or figure out how a specific trick is done, there will always be the tricks that push boundaries. I really appreciate those who are skilled professionals at the craft, and the cleverly innovative concepts they use to create new tricks.

    As always a great video. I can tell you left a lot of mind melting stuff on the cutting room floor. I have been a magician for many years, and while everyone seems to be happy to copy the most recent release, only a select few seem to be able to hold the audience without the help of the trick. I would love to see lessons on stagecraft and developing an act. I think those would be extraordinarly useful for anyone wanting to truly pursue magic as an art form.

We wish that the performers would teach us.., and not for soooooo much money. Do you travel to different states and do workshops? Free? Because us poor people would love learn!!
    Thank you for doing what you’re doing. Thank you for sharing your passion, knowledge and skills. I know I appreciate it. You have also just provided my son and I something else to learn and bond together with each other. He just turned 18 and doesn’t spend as much time with his mama these days… so I look and try my best to do as much with him as possible.. I’m most thankful to you for that reason alone. Thanks for a great video Chris.
    I do think it's very good that magic is changing and growing with the newer generations. Sometimes I see somebody count an Elmsley or do a double and it looks so old-fashioned. They even use the same patter we've heard for 50 years! Then I see one of the younger magicians do something that I have never seen and it completely fools me.
    Magic, like everything else, goes through phases but it will never disappear.
    I do feel modern performance needs work though.
    Sometime ago I witnessed somebody doing a bar trick (the one where cigarette ash penetrates from the top of the spectators hand to the palm) and everybody in the bar was completely astounded, not because of the trick but because of the performance AND the trick.
    Magic is still very much alive, it just needs an update
    .

    As a “normal” guy who just have a passion for magic I would love to go to events like that.. I would use the Money.. But what holding me back is the lack of network and fear of being on my own all the time. How do I get invited out with all the others.. I has a vibe of… “we all know each other… and everything is for us…” if you want new people who’s is not a part of the “circle” you should kind of have a “body” system where you can be paired with a experienced participant who could take you places or give introductions to every thing. That would help for me personally to go.

    It needs to be on a major streaming service. They need to have an online masters class where all of the finalists teach a trick or something about magic. FISIM also needs an official store that's international friendly, and maybe even sell an official magic Olympics "kit."
    Also getting people who aren't necessarily magicians but magic adjacent as recognizable faces to bring people in as relatable figures. Like Daniel Radcliffe or Alyson Hannigan.
    Also, music goes a long way. Get some bands to preform and open up the ceremonies. All different types of music, metal, techno, hip-hop, Ska, whatever.
    Just ideas off the top of my head.

    Hey man .. thanks to your videos..... I was lost and didn't know what to do.... The day I discovered you channel was back in 2021 July 20th..... Three days before my dad pass away.... After the funeral... I was home with my family and I was lost... And did not know what or how to cope with everything... My mum was sad... She's a single mother with six children who are only boys..... But the while we were together at home... I was alone and depressed and then I discovered your channel.. I watched it and the puzzle you solve in your video made it realise that I have alot to do in live.. and here I am... Got married in 2023 March... And now I'm with a little girl who is. 4 months old.... Thanks to you brother... I found closure with your videos... ❤

    hello Chris, I'm 14 years old, I'm from Italy and it's some years that I'm into doing magic. I'm saving up money, because I would love to go to the Tourin FISM, and I may go there and enjoy some great magic. It will be might be my first FISM since i don't have the possibility to fly around the world to see the other editions. The only thing I would change about FISM is that I would do them douring the summer time, in which most people are on vacation, meaning that more people can attend the event without having to worry about skipping school or not going to work. Loved the video, it made my day. Hope we can meet soon 😁

    Getting people to come out for conferences/conventions can be tricky. You have to pay for the conference, air fare, hotel and food, so that alone can price some people out. Geting a group rate at hotels can help with this some. Having the conference/convention rotate locations can help because you'll get more people who are local, who can drive to it. Also some venues will attract people because they can make their trip a vacation as well. Time of year can also play a factor of when people can go, if it's a shoulder season, where you can get better rates, etc. Another thing for any conference/convention, people have to know it's happening well in advance so that they can make plans.
    I'm a software engineer and I've seen a lot of conferences that have small communities dry up and I think a lot of the reason is the cost. The advantage of the industry I'm in is that sometimes you can get your company to pay for you to go to the conference. With magic you're not going to have that, so keeping costs as low as possible would probably be key. Another thing that would help attract people would be getting personalities such as yourself and other TH-camrs, because as TH-cam creators you do have a celebrity-like status, and people will come just to meet you, plug you have reach of your youtube viewers, to spread the word. I personally would love to go to a conference/convention related to magic, but it would come down to cost, timing and getting my wife sold on the idea of going.

    Regarding one of your observations at the end of the video - it would be great to see more women in magic. Any chance of you showcasing some on your channel? Big fan of your work Chris - thanks so much for all the effort you put into both your magic and your videos!

    As a layperson and not a magician (but a magic lover), I'd love to be able to attend in person. I'm not even sure that is allowed. Maybe have a video series after the fact by practice to show the competition/reality series it? That would promote and show amazing practitioners and the current state of magic. Hold beginner workshops for the public at the next event?

    What to add - Like a theater camp....add a basic magic class that people who attend could sign up for. Then at the end "the recital" where they get a chance to perform and tips given. Get the next generation excited.

    Conferences in general are typically designed for those already in the know. It is hard to break in and feel like you can learn or contribute without experience that can be matched by all others in attendance. To your point about getting people into magic and supporting the next generations, we need to welcome them in. Provide opportunities to participate and learn, even at conferences like this. Rather than this only being an experience for those already in the know, let the novice in! Of course there needs to be advanced opportunities that are only designed for those at particular skill levels, but imagine the impact on average people like most of us who may hear directly from and see those that are willing to be mentors in the art like yourself. As someone who works in higher education in the United States, this is my philosophy to learning - they need to be able to do it themselves and participate to grow!

    Nice review, thanks. Loved the speech at the end, when I was young it seemed there were more magicians on TV. Now it seems the main TV outlet is BGT/AGT, it was TH-cam that got me back watching magic. Lloyd Barnes was to blame initially and then Craig Petty. Also like watching your content both magic and puzzles. Although the bank account has taken a hit, I see a trick and just can’t resist 😖 even just as a hobbyist. Who new collecting cards would become a thing for me as well 🤪. Still need to get me some 1st decks.
