SW@@SpedSpedding Bro you are makin me return the clock back to the early years of my playing. Your explanation on how to play the tune proper is spot on mate. 🤯 Chris, thank you so much! That’s so nice. I’m glad you take a little slice of everything. I know how precious time is for everyone. Tasty licks and a few shit jokes is my style. 🤣👌🏻
Sped ,I have seen footage odf Jimmy live , playing Black Dog.In the main riff he never hits the B string ,rather he slides up a whole step on the G string and does a hammer/pull off ,then descends down to the 5th and 7th strings to finish up the main riff. No disrespect, and it is not even important, I am just throwin it out there for your blessing Aped. You are the Zoso master, so it might meet with approval ,or not. Cheers man! And the worbble on the 4th fret bent to the A is awsome, never noticed that!! You ARE a cheeky lad! This lesson has to be the most thorough and comprehensive lesson on ANY song or ANY lesson on You Tube. You put your heart and soul into this ,and I bet your students are quite happy with you being their teacher!!
Jimmy used the "Middle Pickup Position" for Black Dog on 'TSRTS as he does on Rock and Roll, Whole Lotta Love. Tea for One, Stairway Live Solo, The Ocean Solo etc.. The Middle Position was Jimmys main sound live...
Hey, thanks for this! So great to hear people saying it's the best they've seen. It's just the way I've always taught but on camera. Glad you're enjoying it!
I met Jimmy Page once. Pure luck. I told him how much his music, especially ‘Ramble On’ meant to me. He was amazingly gracious. The same man who helped define classic rock swagger. It’s great to see that in this lesson you are explaining very precisely and helpfully so many crucial nuances, then playing the complete sections of the song with belt and drive. JP would surely approve! I’d love to know how you'd get live the tone you’re getting in your studio. It’s superb. Thank you for a brilliant video. Maybe ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’ soon?
That's so cool! Where were you? From what I've seen of him in interviews and speaking about other players and musicians he's always so humble and complimentary. Legend.

His Patreon has been a godsend due to the wonderful tabs he provides. He makes learning guitar fun, but also Sped is such a great teacher that he’s really boosted my confidence in my play.
I have very clear memories of sitting around with friends in 1970-something trying to work out the main riff from the LP on my Sears acoustic guitar. This is fantastic!

I can already tell I love his teaching style and I’m only a few minutes in. Thank you for keeping it simple by indicating which fret and string to play. Your time and effort is much appreciated!
I once read in an interview with John Paul Jones that when Jimmy played the chord progression to him for this song, his first comment was “there’s no way you’re going to be able to write a solo over that” and then he played it for him, to which JPJ said that’s F’n Brilliant. And it was and is, and I would have never really thought I could pull it off, that is until I watched this, just incredible the way you teach!
after 2 months of practice to this video now I'm able to entertain myself at least! This is the best Led tutorial I've ever seen!! Great details and fantastic tones!!
Absolutely fantastic - all of your Zep lessons are spot on. Page’s phrasing is so quirky and unique and you just simply nail it!! Love your teaching demeanor too, very calm - almost encouraging the student by subtlety saying ‘we got this’. More Zep lessons please!!!
Thank you so much for this, really wonderful to read. Most importantly though that you find so much useful information in the lessons. Have fun with the rest. 🔥
The solo intro is pretty close to the turn around lick in RnR. Never noticed until trying to actually play it, then went back to the track and sure enough true.

Awesome brother!! You said you were gonna do more Jimmy and it doesn't get much better than this bad ass solo!! Amazing chops, the whole tune is just great, thank you very much and glad your staying safe bro!!! 🎸🎸🎸👍

No Shit, Your lesson's are great ! I've been playing ( Badly ) for 40 years and gave up on teachers. You've a way of teaching that works no matter what your preference of music is. I just went electric because of age and arthritis in my hands and have learned the majority of this song in a week. Thank you ! P.S. I learned to play in Europe and I live in Arizona, funny how I had to go back across the pond to expand my playing.

Chuck in a few crap jokes and some entertainment and we're done, haha. Stoked that my style suits your taste and you're having so much more fun this time around. This side of the pond is pretty good... 🤘🏻🤩
Thank you for doing the G to A bend on the low E string at the end of the riff. So many people try to teach this song and leave that important step out.
By far you are the best teacher. I have been trying to get the song down. The 3rd riff where ya bend the string has taken me a few days but I’m finally building the calluses. I have arthritis all over but it was so bad in my left hand I couldn’t play. I’m 58 and just mess around a little but after wearing a brace for months the hand started letting me play again. I’ll be so happy when I get this down. Thank you for the awesome lesson. Very comprehensive I don’t even have to slow you down. I would love a private lesson maybe when I sell some art pieces. Cheers from a San Francisco mom.
Laurie this is wonderful. Thanks so much for the comment. Patience and repetition is key so well done for persisting. The calluses will toughen and you’ll get the riffs. I suffer with RSI and tendinitis in my wrists from all the playing, teaching and editing. I mentioned it in the Tea For One video. I also have a brace and occasionally slip it on for a rest. 🙌🏻 You’re welcome for the video, good luck with selling your art? Last time we were in San Fran we ended up in a little photography print store on our way to the Chinese museum. There was a gorgeous print of Robert Plant holding the dove for sale. What art do you do? 🙏🏻
You're the first I see who found the trick of the bend on the low E string to play an A at the end of the riff , congratulations and thank you because I thought my ears played me since 30 years...
They haven’t played you at all! It’s a super cool way to end the riff. Similar thing going on in the “Whole Lotta Love” riff with the micro bend of the 5th fret of the A with the open D. Assume you’ve got that one down too? 🤩👌🏻
@@SpedSpedding , yep this one was more easy to find as I can remember ( I was teenager and self taught guitarist with tapes and vinyl ) , for black dog I found this kind of lick in country music .

Yes, certainly the best Zeppelin tutor on the web. I know you teach a lot of other stuff but I really come here for the Zep. Every nuance is covered (“I think I can just hear a little ‘push’ there…” etc.) But please yes can I add my voice to the calls for a lesson (or series as it is a bit of a marathon) on SIBLY. My favourite Zep song ever. I picked up some of it back in the old days with 33 rpm Dansette record players slowed down to 16 rpm (another of their selectable speeds which roughly halved the speed while transposing down roughly an octave) and then I’ve been picking up more from other people on YT but nobody does it better, frankly, than Sped. Maybe it’s just not a song you like that much? But from what I’ve seen I would have thought it would be right up your street. Please could you do a lesson? Or alternatively explain why not? Because if you’re never going to do it I’ll just resign myself to the second-best material that there is out there and just get stuck in with someone else. But I prefer you because you don’t just give a lesson. You have a lot of dry humour going on as well which I find essential to leaven the theory and it’s more like having someone in the room there with you.
Loving The Warble Bend on the Double Pound Slash Crash Chord... I thought it was just some feedback. I'm gonna start using that technique on other songs where I crash the chord. Excellent!
Great lesson on the technique... Live, Pagey used the middle pickup position.. He had a 'Hollow Chirp ' Tone on this tune, as he did on Whole Lotta Love live, and Rock and Roll.. The middle position was his "Go To" for much material.
Excellent breakdown of Black Dog! The best lesson I've ever watched hands down. Thks for the motivation to bring my Les Paul off the wall to play more often! 😎 🎸 🎶

Ah Sharek, that's so nice. Thanks. It can be a bit up and down; some of my biggest videos are getting on for half a million now, some of my others are at about 300. I guess I am just learning about content at the moment and what works best.
Thanks for including the harmonised part, that is often left out. I thought the A to G, to the slide from F# etc ends on G to D rather than Dsus to D. I could be wrong, but it sounds right to me. I love the attention to detail in explaining and instructing in the video.
The best of the best (and there's some good ones out there). I subscribed for the tone, the humour, the hair, the beard, Ernie Ball srings and most of all the excellent lesson.

My favorite instructor on the web. I use you for all my Zeppelin needs. Bravo, and keep up the good work Sped!
Wow, thanks so much Mica! Appreciate that.
When someone asks me for an example of how to mix major and minor scales in a solo this one always comes to mind.
I wanted to learn the guitar because of Jimmy Page, so learning one of his riffs is incredible! Thanks so much for the video!
A. Harrison He’s inspired so many; myself included. You’re welcome! 🔥🙏🏻
Great tone too!
Brilliant lesson. Many thanks for your time & patience. I'm now a Patreon!
Amazing, thanks Ken! I saw you come over and sent you a message!
Could you please show your amp setup or pedals to achieve that sound exactly? Ill apreciate it so much!!
Page was and is a genius for coming up with these nuances like the A add g#~A just sheer talent and you to pick that up my hats off to you man
Thank you, thank you! He is a genius and I’m stoked you enjoyed the lesson. 💪🏻
Loving The Warble Bend on the Double Pound Slash Crash Chord... I thought it was just some feedback. I'm gonna start using that technique on other songs where I crash the chord. Excellent!
Just recently found Sped I can't begin to express how great is teaching method is mucho gracias!!!
You're welcome Richard, glad you found me too! Welcome to the channel.
Great lesson on the technique... Live, Pagey used the middle pickup position.. He had a 'Hollow Chirp ' Tone on this tune, as he did on Whole Lotta Love live, and Rock and Roll.. The middle position was his "Go To" for much material.
Finally got it....best tutorial on youtube...thanks Sped, keep em coming
Great lesson- well done. One thing that stands out to me are the o u stranding Blues bends!!
Excellent breakdown of Black Dog! The best lesson I've ever watched hands down. Thks for the motivation to bring my Les Paul off the wall to play more often! 😎 🎸 🎶
Ah that’s so cool Thomas. Keep it dust free! Thanks for learning with me. 🤘🏻
The bass line by JPJ is just as important and dirty sweet as Jimmy’s riffs were. Crank the bass on that song. You’re welcome!
This is incredible, I couldn't figure out the "ah yeah" part by tab only. Thank you!
So glad I could help! Sometimes it's just easier to see and hear it right? Hope you're enjoying playing it now and thanks for the support.
New to the channel sped I love your videos but I can see this is an older one.... your lights and set up is right on point now, love seeing the progress you've made. Brilliant teacher and seen like a cool guy
Now that was an awesome lesson thank you so much, really appreciate you being here for us and Happy, Happy Birthday to Gabriella!!!
gonic1958 You’re welcome. I passed on the message; she says thanksssss! ✨
Super comprehensive guitar lessons / tutorials , well done . could i have been a superstar if these were available in the late 70's ? one could only speculate . . lol . . . thanx for doing all the hard work
You’re welcome Jimmy. So glad you like my lesson style. Loads more since this one as well. 🙌🏻
Great lesson. That les paul sounds absolutely amazing. I love the tone you have in this video. Care to share your amp settings or what setup you’ve used to record this?
Yes, amp settings please
Yes, how do you get the tone ?
I would also love to know your amp and guitar settings...the tone is perfect!
Great teacher, so easy to follow, nice pace of teaching the licks IMHO.
Thanks so much!
Cool! Il me manquait quelques parties du morceaux...je les ais maintenant. Super leçon,merci mec
Thank you Sped. I've been playing it wrong for years. Not only that I've been making it harder than it actually is. 😊🤘
Fantastic lesson. Living loving Maid is another fun one to play.
The Nuance of the reality is just soooo Good
Sped, when you said this song / lead was a monster you weren't joking. I'm still having to come back to this a few times and its been like a month!!!!! lol
That little 'drop back down to the seventh on the A' 1:40, nearly killed my career before it began, way back in 88.
After 10 years of trying to play this proper I finally can . This lesson was great
Yes! That’s such an amazing thing to hear, well done!
@@SpedSpedding defo subscribing . Thank you fella 🤘
Nice one. Gotta learn this song pretty quickly for a band I may be joining and was having a nightmare with the solo. This has been a massive help. Have yourself a sub 😊
Great tutorial Sped, I learned this song, thanks to you. I love playing with attitude.
Man your the best teacher on U tube I've found keep up the good work
Thank you for what you do
That’s a big thing to say, thanks Kenneth. My pleasure, have fun. 🙌🏻🍿
Feel little melancholy practicing lick since gave way my Led Zeppelin tab book. Great lesson
Sped: you are just fucking awesome and thank you for these lessons.
Great video man! Keep em coming
What a great teacher explains note for note if anyone wants to learn guitar watch his videos you won't go wrong fantastic top marks
Thanks Alan! Stoked you like my style.
Who would have guessed it was that easy! Awesome tutorial!
Was going though a Keef phase but you've got me back on track man! Thanks...just subscribed🙂👍🏻
Thanks for the sub Max! Stoked to get you on track! 🙌🏻
Keef is a good influence too.
"Get a haircut and get a job!"🤣 That's all I heard from Dad back in 70's!! Very informative lesson explains the song in detail!! Never seen him on here before(yes I live in a cave)🤣 but will revisit his site quite often!!! 👍💯
I mean I heard that too on the noughties… but only from people on the street. 🌝
How in the hell does this video lesson only have 800 views? I’ve got stupid shit with more?????
TH-cam is failing you. Awesome work and great teaching. Beautiful!
Ah Sharek, that's so nice. Thanks. It can be a bit up and down; some of my biggest videos are getting on for half a million now, some of my others are at about 300. I guess I am just learning about content at the moment and what works best.
The tone out of that Les Paul!
Yey or ney?
@@SpedSpedding Oh yey for sure dude! What amp are you using? I'd love to hear it cranked up. And how do you get that nice reverb?
Monstrous indeed! Incredibly great lesson! Thanks.
LOVE this so much! Don't get many beard comments. I appreciate the humour feedback, always reassuring that I've not lost the plot. Haha!
