Born: August 21, 1938, Houston, TX
Died: March 20, 2020, Sandy Springs, GA
Spouse: Wanda Miller (m. 1997-2020), Marianne Gordon (m. 1977-1993), More
Children: Christopher Cody Rogers, Jordan Edward Rogers, Justin Charles Rogers, Carole Rogers, More
The song was written and produced by Lionel Richie, recorded in 1980, and ranks among Kenny Rogers's biggest hits. Rogers once told an interviewer, "The idea was that Lionel would come from R&B and I'd come from country, and we'd meet somewhere in pop."
The success of "Lady" also boosted Richie's career. The production work on the song was his first outside the Commodores and foreshadowed his success as a solo act during the 1980s. Rogers was also a featured vocalist on "We Are the World", co-written by Richie. Richie performed the song himself on his 1998 album, Time, and he and Rogers performed the song as a duet on Richie's 2012 release Tuskegee. Lionel Richie had originally pitched this song to the Commodores and they turned it down. Then later, it was given to Kenny Rogers to record and it became the biggest selling hit single for him as a solo artist.

Richie had the music written and presented it to the Commodores with opening the song with "lady" and only that word... he didn't have anything else as for lyrics to the music for this song. After Roger's people put them together first part of the song was written by Rogers and Richue did the rest of the song while using the restroom... theres a video I just watched on TH-cam a few days ago with Rogers explaining all this on stage as Richie is in the audience and ultimately they both perform the song afterwards

I went there and the box office just released a few first row center seats. LOL. Jackpot. Kenny called on my dad to answer some “true fan” trivia questions about his songs. THESE ARTISTS WERE THE ONES WE WERE LISTENING TO BACK IN THE DAYS(1980's), BEFORE CDs, DVDs. YOU EITHER LISTEN TO THEM ON THE RADIO, WATCH THEM ON TV, BUY THEIR VYNIL RECORDS WHICH WERE SELLING BY THE MILLIONS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD OR GO TO THEIR CONCERTS. THEY WERE SUPERB THEN, BUT LOOKING BACK, WITH THE KIND OF MUSIC THAT WE HAVE NOW, I REALIZE THAT THESE CLASSIC LOVE SONGS WERE MORE THAN SUPERB, THEY ARE TIMELESS TREASURES.

Two duets of his you'll will probably like are, "Islands in the Stream" and "We got Tonight". I am 73 years and I was around for all his good one. Yeah, always a favorite. And this is TOTALLY a Lionel Ritchie song who writes the BEST ballads, as we know. I think there's a video of the two of them singing this song together not long ago. For my wedding (back in 1985) we were trying to decide on this one and Lionel's "Truly"... I think I had to end up flipping a coin because I loved both songs equally, and "Truly" got it. But I love, love, love this song. Kenny has some really great ones, story-telling type songs too. :) Great reaction!

would tell you one thing and one thing, you are the most beautiful women
in the world. That's just the way he was so you know. But my mother he
met her I caught a show called E all. Now were getting way back in time.
And when you get a chance look up a movie called six pack that's on my
dad did a movie together.and then you realize what an incredible man he
was. But I'm telling you right now thank you for making this TH-cam
video, and like I said my father was so live, he would tell you first of
all me being the son go for these two beautiful women, but your weight
you young for me, but thank you thank you and thank you from the Rogers

Steph...According to Kenny in an interview in 2018, "Lady" was written by Lionel Richie for the Commodores but they didn't like it & turned it down. That's when Lionel offered it to Kenny. All he had written was the first verse & when Kenny asked him for the rest of it, Lionel went to the bathroom to write the rest of it. He came out with the completed song. The Commodores never sang the song & Lionel only sang it a few times on stage WITH Kenny.

@@jamesakers2959 I saw an interview Lionel did with Bobby Bones the other day and he told that the original name of the song was actually "Baby". Kenny had been going on the whole time about his new wife at the time saying that she was a real "Lady" then he turned to Lionel and asked him the name of the song and it was then and forevermore known as "Lady"❤️

There is a video at some award/tribute show honoring Lionel. Kenny, who was great friends with Lionel, talked about how the song came to be. Then he invites Lionel on stage to sing Lady. You can see the love, the respect, the friendship, between two of the best ever. I’m talking about amazing. They were like kids on that stage. I do suggest you two look it up and react to it. It will make your day.

Thank you guys for making this tribute to Kenny. He kind of seems like that uncle that you live and can't wait to stop by at the family bbq and tell his stories. I will miss my follow Houstonian. Check out his duet with Lionel Richie... it's awesome. God bless you guys and all who read this. Oh one of my favorites is "Coward of the County"....

When someone wants to know what the early 80's looked and sounded like, they need to watch this clip, cuz a Lionel Ritchie tune, performed by Kenny Rogers with that feathered hair, in that suit, screams how great of a time period it was....
