@collentompkins Ultimately they don't matter. Listen to what you like. Subgenres help some people find what they like, and for some they're just confusing.
The first time I listened to Epitaph I was just blown away. It was the perfect mix of heavy and disgusting sounding Morbid Angel riffing, mixed with influences of the progressive and more melodic era of Death, and played at hyperspeed with utterly insane precision and technique. The production was also amazing for that kind of music during that time. It really became the measuring stick for death metal, not only musically, but production-wise as well.
Muhammed from necrophagist was a huge chuck schuldiner fan. and you can hear how he evolved the guitar work of chuck into necrophagist. i feel so lucky i was able to see necrophagist live before the untimely demise of the band .
First time i ever heard After the Burial it was the album Rareform I was in the backseat of a friends car on a f*ck ton of magic mushys and my mind was forever blown. Couldnt agree more. Changed me for ever. I still love that album.
Got to meet Stephen at a Guitar Center While back in Mississippi. They were passing through on their way to Georgia to play at the House of Blues. The whole band except for Alex came in, and they were all chill as hell.
Ah yes Mendel! so glad to have another video with him in it, love his solo stuff and ofc his work in Aborted. His EP Shaking Hands With The Devil is still my favorite from him, I highly recommend! Killer video! thanks Andrew! ❤
I grew up on death metal and I think there are more technical riffs in the death metal world. That being said there are different deathcore bands that have graduated to better guitar playing but overall, death metal is a lot better IMO
As far as 7:50 the first time I’ve ever heard a guitarist do these like slap/accented bends is Mark Tremonti on songs like Metalingus with Alter Bridge. The guy does a lot of harmonic whammy sounds and at least back in those days it would throw me off as something new sounding.
I definitely relate to my man on the right more. Classic RG six string playing Metallica and Pantera then the completely unexpected name drop of Chimaira.... fuck yes
I am mostly deathcore fan, but I like some technical death metal like Archspire or brutal slamming death metal like Dehumanising Itatrain Worship Nice video, Andrew
My house made of clickbait. Not really genre correct but tranquilized by acid bath that opening chug isn’t difficult but it kicks and is soo fun to play.
Andrew it seems you don't like Groove Metal, but for Chimaira you should listen to their song Severed, it's just breakdowns and bassdrops for 3 minutes.
Deathcore people are pictured by "true metalheads" as kids who desperatly try to "be metal" but in fact they actually just don't care about being "true".
I love that you mention Eric on the Pantera part hahahah. I've been following him for a while and he knows his stuff :D Great video brother and congrats on the tour! I couldnt make it to the Vancouver show because of work but next time I will try to catch guys. you guys are killer
How can you like Metallica and not Slayer? and NOT Pantera????? I know Dimebag's tone was horrible but the music was amazing, he wrote some of the heaviest riffs ever, even to this day.
@@JavierGarcia-kb1no yeah dude. I mean, I get it if you're not into post Friedman/Menza era Megadeth, but to not be into any Megadeth at all as a metal guitar player? That's just crazy to me in this day and age. Rust In Peace, Countdown To Extinction, and Youthanasia have some of the best guitar work in all of metal. It's just good science!
I listen to both deathcore and death metal. Although death metal overall can be faster and more complicated riffs etc; I'd still say deathcore is heavier. Not saying one is better than the other but perhaps one of the reasons deathcore can often sounds heavier due to the fact it's a mixture of death metal and hardcore, your often playing fewer different notes in one riff but you have make each note perhaps count more (I know I am saying "perhaps" a lot, it's just so people do not think I am saying all of one subgenre is a certain way). Also sometimes death metal can be more about the leads than the rhythm and the rhythm tends to be where the heavy is. I only said this because some people say otherwise and I just do not see it. Though I bet there is a death metal riff that is heavier than a decently heavy deathcore riff. Also do not think I am always about the heavy ( I listen to things like post-punk and other goth stuff) , there needs to be somewhat of a balance of course.
Deathcore will be most of times heavier, because most of death metal what was done and what we listen is from 80-90s. About playing it depends on band, and don't forget subgenre brutal death metal and bands like Dying Fetus, Disgorge (usa and mexico), Devourment, Mortician. I remixed Mortician's hacked up for barbecue and it sounds almost that heavy as Lorna Shore's album "and return to the nothingness" or humanitys last breath sound. (I did it on phone, if I would have professional equipment, it would sound way different and in best way) And don't forget that Mortician's next 2 albums are way heavier, I'm so excited to remix them.
I love seeing anything with Mendel involved but holy shit dudes... Whoever set up the guitar tones, considering the gear available, should be tarred and feathered. Maybe this is supposed to sound like everyone at GC.
Guitars used in this video:
Ibanez RG Baritone: sweetwater.sjv.io/PyA7VQ
Ibanez RGD 8 String: sweetwater.sjv.io/Nk63MK

Chimaira’s guitar player Rob Arnold has a TH-cam channel y’all should check out.
Alright man, I have my notepad out and my glasses on. This is the type of education I need right now :).
It’s Andre!
Need to get Andre in on a show

Ah yes. The iconic “My Damnation” riff makes its appearance once again 🤘🏼
necrophagist was the band that pushed me over the edge into the extreme metal world in 2006... im happy people still think so highly of that band
28:57 so clean! Awesome riffs!

at 23:40 it's the solo riff for Eve of Seduction by Symphony X
Decapitated, Opeth, & Necrophagist are why I'm a death metal fanboy 'till the day I die.
How close it looks like your headstocks get gives me anxiety.
For real they almost touched tips
Chelsea Grin have some sick riffs. Especially with Jason.

At the beginning of the video, I started hearing necrophagist stuck in my head. Didn't expect to hear it here
I definitely relate to my man on the right more. Classic RG six string playing Metallica and Pantera then the completely unexpected name drop of Chimaira.... fuck yes

Deathcore feels like death metal that's always on the verge of dropping into a breakdown

Hate Eternal is an amazing band. love video as well
Bro really gonna play Homo Sum and Damage Inc (CLEAN AS HELL) in the same vid like he's a sane human being

Great vid dudes. 🤘🏻😈🤘🏻
They never play where the slime lives
My house made of clickbait. Not really genre correct but tranquilized by acid bath that opening chug isn’t difficult but it kicks and is soo fun to play.
That's it, we're only listening to Pantera when we hang. Otherwise you're gonna walk on home boy.
Great video guys! I definitely get your point about classic or boomer metal. I just can't get into any of it.
Classical music was just metal before electricity.
Just two dudes having good time playing good music
The riff Mendel couldn't name is called: Homo Sum
"I hate everything" Chug CHug CHug Chug Chug
"Darkness Everywhere" CHug CHug Chug Chug Chug
"Ahhhh, Stab thine eyes with a dull pencil" Rearwwwwrrrr Boom CHUG CHUG CHUG... CHUG CHUG CHUG
Aspiration is my favorite ATB song
Total death metal
Andrew it seems you don't like Groove Metal, but for Chimaira you should listen to their song Severed, it's just breakdowns and bassdrops for 3 minutes.
Somebody sit Andrew down and go through the entire Pantara catalog please.
As long as you can recognize Dimebag as an amazing guitarist, we're good. Haha.
My damnation is my warm up song lmfao
Deathcore people are pictured by "true metalheads" as kids who desperatly try to "be metal" but in fact they actually just don't care about being "true".

Your gittar partner there a Dutchy? Or am i mistaken?
The Decapitated riff is homo sum. And it'll completely destroy your wrist.
Just came from Rudy’s video lol
Pantera?! bro HOW lmao
Baena it's ok I've never really liked Pantera either, there's dozens of us! Great video!

Some people thinks that his tone is bad? Okay
Dude what?!! Judas priest? Painkiller? No?
Vader!
what amps were you guys plugged into??? your tones here is so sick!
Thanks! I believe it was a Blackstar HT-Stage MK III with my own Queensroad IR and did some mixing in post.
Megadeth doesn't do anything for either of them??? That's insane! 😳
An It Shows..
