I really enjoyed this. It takes me back to when my kids were young and struggling. I have many precious memories of second hand Christmas gifts. It makes me sad looking at some of the beautiful hand made clothes and blankets that have been given away, but it sure is nice for those who have low budgets! I am a grandma now, my oldest granddaughter is 13, and I still look for second hand Christmas teddies to buy for myself.
Good for you! It's lovely to find those little treasures isn't it. Plus the handmade gifts are most likely loved by people now who didn't have anyone make them and they wished they had. I love buying knitted toys as I never had one made for me. I love spotting the knitted toys for sale now, that's my version of your Christmas teddies ♡ x
It's nice that you are explaining about secondhand purchasing. I grew up thrifting all my life. I remember getting a few pence for the flea market when I was still in my pram. My mother didn't necessarily have to only buy secondhand. We didn't have a lot of money but we probably could have bought some things new too sometimes. But for us it was just normal to buy secondhand. All my clothing, my toys, furniture and my mother bought her personal things and household items in charity shops and bootsales, too. So did my grandmother. So I always grew up with the knowledge and feeling that buying secondhand is rather a good thing. As it saves money and resources both for yourself and the environment and it can be loads of fun to look for treasure. I never really gave it a thought. Only when I was in school and I proudly said what a good bargain I had gotten on some of my clothing did I first find out that some people thought less of it. I soon found out that it was mostly the people that did not have very much money that felt they had to show that they spend a lot to look decent in society. Which is really sad. So it is nice to see that you are spreading the word and are advocating for and normalising thrifting. I imagine you probably have quite a few viewers in similar financial situations as you that might not have had the good luck of growing up in an environment where they felt confident enough to boast about their latest 50P purchase as if they were sporting Prada. I feel very fortunate to have grown up knowing that material possessions do not at all define or influence your worth as a human being or as a member of society. It is easy to forget that not everyone is that lucky, so thank you for sharing your perspective. It is nice to hear from someone who found out a bit later and was "converted" to the joys of thrifting.❤
Just found you, I’ve been repurposing 2nd hand things for years either fb, charity shops or car boot sales. Thank you for your recommendation for olio, can’t believe I’ve not heard of this place . I agree that Christmas is what you make it, there’s lots of people in our village that post on our fb page offering things especially kiddies toys/clothes for free, make my heart happy helping each other regardless of situations, saving land fill and the planet ❤
Oh I'm glad you know about it now, it's great... I think its lovely to see some kindness from these things, rather then the misery we are fed by the media. Shows us that really, people can be very kind and caring towards others ♡ x
Just watched this, you are talking so much sense. I always do charity shop presents for my husband and grown up children, which are always second hand books! I wrap in brown paper, tie up with string, and put a knitted holly babge on a brown luggage label! It makes a beautiful, very cheap extra present! I was a stay at home mum too, being with your children is the best x
We do second hand and love it, for years I then would buy new for others and begun to think... if we are ok with second hand... why am I feeling obligated to buy new for others? I figured if it's good enough for us, then it's good enough. I love that idea for wrapping xx
I love this video. Just because is Christmas doesn’t mean we should break ourselves. We love creating christmas gifts and charity shops. You can find wonderful things in charity shops. XXx
I'm so proud of you and your family. Two incomes are not necessary no matter how society says it does. So many things are truly unnecessary to live a happy life.
That was packed with excellent advice! We were a single-income family while my children were young and we had to keep our spending very low - and a video like yours would have been very encouraging. ❤
I follow several Facebook groups dedicated to repurpose and upcycle. So much amazing inspiration. We all need to normalize using and giving second hand or hand made items. your made up bunny was so clever. Thanks for the fun inexpensive gift and activity ideas. Very wise words from you, too. 🤗
Well done Kayleigh, second hand isn't second best. Charity shops make more money and you save money so it's a win win. Walking bingo is fun, first one to see a snowman or wreath or Santa ect. Thank you. Sian from Wrexham 😊
Great advice, we always tried to have Christmas without getting in to debt. Merry Christmas to you and your family. You are very creative. Giving your children your time is the best gift you can give them.❤❤
You are so right. When it’s handmade, it is so much more special. I much prefer handmade. My children do too. When my daughter had her baby shower and people asked what she would like she said handknit or crocheted items, secondhand books, or wooden toys. I am making a hot water bottle cover out of an up cycled men’s wool blazer. I got the free pattern from merchant and mills. I found a really sunshiny yellow water bottle to go inside. I actually used most of the men’s Wool blazer to make a pack sack so I’m just using the leftover pieces to make the water bottle cover. I also just cast on a pair of Christmas socks. I have quite a few projects on the go right now, but Christmas is coming fast. I’d like to get them done early so I can enjoy the Christmas festivities. If I have time, I would still like to crochet toothless. He’s the dragon from the movie how to train your Dragon and my grandsonadores him.
Hi Kayleigh. Lovely video, you're just a breath of fresh air. Christmas has become so commercialised, putting lots of families under unnecessary pressure. We're having the children overnight in a couple of weeks. Lots of fun festive crafts planned. Plus, we have our beautiful advent colouring books. 🥰xx
I heard someone say today "why is it when the natural world slows down to rest, we speed up and overwhelm ourselves". I thought that was a good point. I bet it will be a wonderful time, I'm excited about it and I'm not even going haha xx

You have a lot of good ideas, Kayleigh! Thank you for sharing them with us! Yes, in America we have buses, but not double decker buses.
Thank you ♡
I was wondering if you have buses to everywhere, or not, but decided not to fall down a rabbit hole of things I wonder about 🤭 xx

As for children book, library is a good choice. Our is full of books even for very small kids and they are free.
Very true ♡ XX
Kayleigh that is a real ukulele, it's tuned to G, C, E, A. You will need to buy a tuner, and so easy to play great find.
Thank you, I was so pleased with it. Chris is talented on guitar so he has defaulted to caretaker for it and he is planning to teach them on it too xx
