It wasn't until the final couple of minutes that the presenter touched on 'the difference' between the IRONMAN FOAM CELL PRO SHOCKS and the NITROGEN SHOCKS. The Ironman Foam Cell Pros are constructed to maintain their performance for extended periods over rough (corrugated) roads at speed. They are constructed to stay cooler and significantly inhibit internal oil foaming (cavitation). They are more robust in construction, they are a 'performance shock'.
The Nitrogen Shocks perform just as well, (the same) until they are put under prolonged pressure at sustained high speed over rough roads. If you are driving on sealed highways with only very occasional off-roading the Nitrogen Shocks are fine, the extra cash outlay is maybe not necessary.

The foam is a volume compensator. As the shock shaft moves into the shock body, it displaces oil. That oil needs somewhere to go, without leaving a giant bubble in the oil. So either a floating piston (IFP) backed by nitrogen is used, or bladder, or foam, like these shocks use. While these different ways to compensate for volume can lead to slight differences in the ride, it's the internal valving that actually does the work.

Thank you for the nice comparison. This was a lot of work for you. Thank you.
From what I understand, the Foam Cell Pros excel in long range distance traveling off road. Unlike nitrogen shocks, the oil inside does not foam up as a result the shocks maintain the same performance through out the trip off road. Nitrogen shocks on the other hand, loose performance long range travel off road.

I have the FCP stage III and love the on/off road drive. I’d say the biggest difference in your test came in the second one. The amount of dirt kicked up in Nitro was significant compared to the FCPs. They just have better planting to ground. Thanks for the testing!

I have the nitrogen gas on Nissan Np300. 130,000 miles on them and no leaks or fade over those miles. A lot of highway use but when used off-road, a lot of high speed washboards. The best!! The OEM gave up at 30,000 miles lol.

Since the IronMan 4x4 - Foam Cell Pro shocks is a twin tube but a mega beefy twin tube shocks with a large 45mm piston.
Compare to bilstein B6/4600 shocks are monotube with also massive 46mm piston.
    Which shocks are better?
    Which rides better?
    Which one handles better?
Which one has better bodyroll reduce?
    What’s the price difference?
What is the warranty for the Foam Cell Pro? Where as bilstein 4600 had a lifetime warranty?
And since 4600 are great for not only for mild off-road, but also great for daily use.
Can the IronMan 4x4 - Foam Cell Pro is great for daily use, and not use for off-road?
And what is the price difference?
Let say on 5th gen Toyota 4Runner.

So I can get into to all those details but I will tell you this. My brother has 155k miles on his original Ironman 4x4 Foam Cell Pro kit and it is just now showing signs of age. On the good side Foam Cell Pro shocks are completely rebuildable. Bilstein has a lifetime warranty but are not rebuildable so when they are done, they are done. If I had to by any of my suspensions again I would buy Ironman Foam Cell pro. That being said I have never owned a bilstein 4600 kit for my Tacoma so I can’t make any side by side comparisons. Hope this is helpful.

I have a question about the actual lift from the kits. For my Nissan, the estimated lift is 1.5". For your Taco, the Ironman 4x4 America site says the Nitro Gas is estimated at 2". Do you feel the height estimate is high, low or about right? Also, did you install the Medium or Heavy Load? Please share your thoughts. Thanks for a great video.

The Foam Cell Pro’s are fully adjustable with the Coil Rings and I used the heavy duty rear springs because of all the weight in the back.

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I’m not sure that there is a measurement since it really depends on the weight of your vehicle. What it did was measure my stock suspension uncompressed out of the vehicle and assembled the new coil over and added about 3” to the overall length. I planned on having to adjust it once I got the weight of the vehicle on them but the overall height was just over 2.5”ish. It sat right for my 35’s. Hope this helps. This system is pretty stout and I was very proud of it until watching a clip from 4XOverland (Andrew St. Pierre) and he basically said the new IM stuff is much better than before(apparently some sort of business change over??) but that it was still cheap!! I'm just wondering why Ironman4x4 is not getting all the attention that Fox/Icon/King/Bilstein get. I can definitely do a video on it but it might be a bit. The ring will change ride height as well as preload. The two go hand in hand as far as I know. However I am definitely not a pro so if anyone knows better. Adjusting the ring higher on the shock compresses the spring more to increase ride height and preload. The drawback with the extra clearance is you can get to a point where you end up with too much preload and you get a hop instead of a decompression. It’s really noticeable on high speed bumps.
