- Time for something totally different. I pulled the trigger on this high-mileage 2013 Maserati Quattroporte GTS with the Twin-Turbo 3.8L Ferrari-derived V8 engine. This Maserati has accumulated a whopping 187k miles /301k kilometers and it's quite badly broken.

I will translate the Czech delivery driver: "Fuck it, what a piece of shit!"
Excellent. That's exactly what I thought he said. 🤣
Hahaha, mi malem zaskocilo, kdyz jsem slysel cestinu 😀😀.
I almost choked with food when I heard a Czech language 😀😀.
@@kejefelcz Ja tiez! 😅 Me too 😅
Aspoň že to nevytočil do plnejch jako tu Alpinu 😀😀
At least that delivery guy didn't rev it like the Alpina 😃😃
An Italian piece of crap may I add 😭😂😂
This is how it starts. , first masserati , than porsche, than ferrari, and no way back once u are on that dark path
Place your bets: how many years until he's working on a Gordon Murray?
Yeah would love to see ferrari enzo and lamborginhi aventador on the channel😋
No no no . Next in line should be old Volvos, to keep everything in balance

I started watching this channel as I love old BMW’s. I kept watching as Sreten is an absolute legend. And now… I’m delighted to see a Maserati! I’m expecting at least 20 episodes to clear that check engine light 😂
I feel similar like you… nothing will be the same like in the past 😢 cheers bro!🎉
You mean to clear the first of 1000 check engine lights I think
He's a sweet guy.
this is officialy the highest quality entertainment on youtube
This is like Sam sulek’s videos but instead of the gym it’s the garage
I noticed he sounds like the guy from Robot Cantina. Next he puts a lawn mower engine into a BMW😇
I can't wait to see him fix a real civilian BMW M3 GTR or a BMW Z8.
I used to work on Maserati's and I wish you best of luck with finding a problem within a problem which is caused by a problem and then there's these 3 other problems which are causing another problem. When they do work however, they're an absolute treat to drive and listen to. I always called them an upgraded Alfa Romeo. In both problems and quality.
I felt painful in the ass by reading this comment 😂
He certainly is not somebody to shy away from challenges.
You could be describing any modern BMW repair experience. I wish people didn't always talk trash of Maserati, especially after seeing how bad BMWs really are. Ask you a question: would an E60 M5 have ever reached even half of the mileage of this Maserati, without rebuilding the engine twice over?
And there’s a lot of switchgear that is shared by Chrysler/Dodge products so that will definitely keep some costs down!
@@71alaexactly, look everything the Alpina B7 needed at 110k miles. A new engine was only the beginning.
"Good news is, Maserati is broken, and it's serious!"
Never change, Sreten ❤️
Someone enjoyed 300 000km in a v8, respect
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but on the Ferrari's they have 2 Engine ECUs; where each one is located, they control the opposite side bank! I would imagine this being a V8 it has 2 ECUs and probably follows the same non-logic
I don't think FCA would've used that type of engine control. This probably has one of their stellantis architectures which is actually pretty advanced.
Thanks, Sam! This one only has one ECU, it's the newer generation V8 and they thankfully ditched the 2 ECU setup.
I was a fan of the channel before. Now I'm a stalker. 300k on a Ferrari engine is amazing. Great find.
Ya people will trash Maserati, but it’s pretty damn impressive the car is still alive. People are significantly less likely to maintain these properly than Ferraris with the same engine
It was rebuilt at 270K, so really, the engine has around 30K on it. But it is impressive it lasted 270K for sure.
@@JStryker7maserati deserves to be trashed, i had a quattroporte with 78k kilometers on the dash and the engine sounded terrible, camshafts were trashed and metal shavings on the oil, it happens very commonly on these cars, window regulators broken, buttons on dash had a tacky film that was melting and got on your fingers, knob to move mirrors was broken many many bad quality pieces the car was taken care of, not a single scratch or dent, inmaculate seats and steering wheel, so it wasnt mistreated just bad quality on parts
@@esdar66g95 and what year was that one? I haven’t seen that with the newer ones. They use many of the same parts as fiat, Chrysler, Alfa, etc. I’ve driven a modern Alfa for years and it’s been perfectly fine

That moment when you receive a M539 Restorations' video upload notification, do feel excited about it and instantly think: not now. This needs an appropriate environment: comfortable room, large screen, headphones or a good sound system and a healthy meal. This is TH-cam prime-time.
Can't wait to see a BMW technician save this italian beauty.
I thought I was the only one! 😊
That is literally exactly what I do too!
😊

completamente VERDAD. (TRUE)
I can only bow to the brave person who put 300k on one. Chances are he paid 3x the sell price in keeping it running. The service history says "Modena". Chances are, this was a company car which a company owner/director used daily to go to appointments and so on, for a decade. I can almost picture it. Excellent work!
It cost 100k new, you think it cost 300k to keep running? The annual service is about 600 and every four years 2000.
@@rajivpaladugu8445 no i think it was expensive because they rebuilt the engine
@@arbiya4346 According to the video that happened at 172k miles.
@@rajivpaladugu8445I've seen a one owner, 1990 Bentley Turbo R with a full dealer service history and over $100,000 in service and repair bills to get to 120,000 miles. The first owner of my Cayenne GTS spent over $50,000 at the dealership to get it to 150,000 miles.

I love you man, thought you were playing it safe by buying a Merc, but instead scored an entire swimming pool of Italian eccentricity. You are a brave man!
Nearly 539 thousand subscribers, that will be a landmark. Keep these videos coming, great stuff. Thanks.
Ha, I was thinking exactly that too.
Guy deserves to hit 1 million - hopefully expanding into new car manufacturers will help achieve that.
You can love BMWs, but you cannot deny Masaratis are one of the best sounding cars ever. That elegance is also something new, I love it. Can't wait for the next episode!
So now you're also M156 restorations. Nice 😂

Yep M156 is engine code from Benz lol

I found your channel 3 years back when you commented on Jason Cammisa's video about quattroporte that you wanted one to restore and you actually got one! Just awesome!! You never disappoint my friend! :) Greetings from Greece.
I love how you explain what and why you are doing it (eg. inteferrence engine and compression test engine) - helps educate us all. Also I love this new restoration, soo refreshing.
I really hope that this project goes nice and easy and doesn't scare you away from maseratis, in the future you have to do a series on a 4.7 gts quattroporte, a truly phenomenal car that has been in my dream garage ever since I saw and most importantly i heard it.
I don't comment very often so i want to say that your channel is one of the greatest and literally my heart beat races every time i see a notification, thank you for the years of well made, well edited, humorous and really thorough repairs and restorations!!
That's the one I was looking for, but they are also rare and difficult to find. One day hopefully!
@@M539Restorations I really hope you do!! The problem with the gts is that not only it is the best fifth gen quattroporte to drive and look but also to own, the facelitfed models had much better electronics, the zf 6 speed was much better than the duoselect, the wet sump engines were more reliable than the early dry sump 4.2 also the gts had, as standard at least, fixed rate bilstein dampers so no skyhook to worry about either. As a result they require a premium when they go on sale and their owners are less willing to part ways with them. Still I hope we hear it's roar in your dojo one day!!
You can say whatever you want but the sound of this car is just fabulous.
Sreten, as a LOOOOONG time subscriber of the channel and a QP5 M139 owner, I can't express the joy in mere words. THANK YOU for giving the dark side a chance :)
Love the narrative that goes with it, the humour and change in voice throughout - just positive reinforcement to keep hamming it up and saying what you are thinking! Not sure about deviating from BMW but I sense fun times ahead!
Even tho I enjoy BMW’s like you, I really like the idea of a different brand. It feels refreshing. It’s like moving out from your parents. While we love our BMW‘s, it’s exiting to see what other companies can do. I am looking forward to learn about this car with you together and hope you enjoy working on it as much as I enjoy watching you working on it.
Well said buddy !
Nothing like a broken piece of Italian goodness to change airs in our life. One project like this per year would be a treat! Keep going Streten!
Not a fan of BMW's but watch all your video's. No nothing about Maserati, but I'm hooked, great stuff Dood!
I recently went from BMWs to a Giulia and your reaction to the stupid connectors (23:26) brought flashbacks to my first encounter 🤣
Just when I thought the channel can't get better he goes and buys a Maserati. Simply one of the best TH-cam channels to subscribe to. ❤
I think he bought it primarily for that Ferrari engine. That's the best part 🔥🔥🔥🔥
If it has done 300,000+ kms in 10 years it must be a miracle Maserati not to have been broken for too long !!
How very fun! Thanks for picking a Maserati to work on. I owned one back in the '80s that was fun to drive WHEN it worked. Cheers from California!
As a previous generation Maserati owner (yeah, with glorious n.a. V8) and fan of your channel, i am super excited
I couldn’t believe it when I saw the intro on Sreten‘s BMW channel, but it’s true, Maserati Quattroporte one of my dream cars because of the engine sound. First time I recognised this V8 was while walking as a tourist in Roma, the QP (M139) was coming slowly from behind and I got goosebumps and needed to turn around……20 years ago…..BRAVO
The start button and infotainment is exactly the same as a Ram 1500. It really is a Chrysler
Worse yet, it's exactly the same one out of the Dodge Journey 😅😂
The algorithm did well suggesting this one, this is great !
Overlooking the obvious problems, this thing sounds brilliant... looking forward to the next instalment
I cant Watch your Videos for Hours or days. Its so interesting. Props for your brave, that you always stay positive and keep learning for yourself and us.
Lights on the dash, things are falling apart but „looks good and sounds great” - spoken like true Italian petrolhead 👌
Sreten, your channel is amazing. Its not only entertaining but very educating as well even though you might not believe it. Thank you so much, i have learnt so much about cars and especially about my old bmw from you. Veliki pozdrav od Bulgaria, brate!
I've watched every single video you have made, and Im so excited to see you work on something different. The content you make is fun, educational and you have a laugh in the process. I hope this project doesn't slow you down because I can't wait to see the next video. Keep doing what you're doing because you're doing amazing 👏 👍 😁
The Maserati sends this channel into another level of interest!
Nah. BMW 4 Life.
No matter if he is fixing lawn mover, i will watch that🤭
@dot7107 same here
Into lower level of interest you mean
Superb. A Calabrian mafia-spec Quattroporte that's been 'off road'. Brave man.
Haha
It lived between Reggio Emilia and Verona, more likely a rental / weddings car or a corporate exec company car. The high mileage is insane! :)
@@71ala I’ve visited Italy a few times and am amazed at how cars like this ‘live’. I salute Maserati as they built something almost indestructible as the Kms are equal to two return trips to the moon!
Balls of steel and deep pockets, Streten you are a brave man. I am BMW through and through but can’t wait to see how this project goes. Great content as always.
That was amazing. I thought I wouldn’t enjoy watching Sreten work on other brands as much, but I thoroughly did. And he doesn’t pretend to know everything! Can’t wait for the next episodes.
That's how Mat Amstrong and Tavarish started, look at them now. Keep going mi amigo i love your passsion and sense of humor. One year later: Project Bugatti
Well, that's fresh 😀 It's unbelievable how much confidence (and experience) you gathered with broken BMWs that you are brave enough to take this adventure!
amazing. the vibe of getting into a new project, a Maserati no less, the vibe is contagious thank a lot.
Great new project, who does not love the sound of a Maserati....
This will be exciting to watch, best of luck to you.
The design of this sedan is very nice. And that indigo blue makes it look truly gorgeous.
From old BMWs straight to modern Maserati, bold move. You got some balls man!! RESPECT🖖
Wow, you’re a brave man taking on this beast, enjoyed every minute of the struggle.
There's a video of a Quattroporte with 426.582km on "STR testy" from +2 years ago. Something very interesting from that video is that back when the car was new, the owner did +90k in 7 months and went to the service due to a chain rattle. Problem was, that Maserati did not provide service instructions for the timing chain for the auth. Maserati dealer. A guy came from Italy, diagnosed that the chain was indeed to be changed, did it and everyone went on. 2nd chain was serviced 260k and third was good for the 426k in the video but the guy says it's getting noisy.
Also both front fenders were changed under warranty, because the inner plastic liner was rubbing them from the inside.
The car had very little or no corroding outer panels or undercarriage - keep in mind polish roads are as bad as german or even worse in winter due to salt.
Safe to say it was serviced similarly to yours (20k oil changes or even more) so that "Ferrari" motor could very much be very strong after all. Cheers Sreten!
When you said twin turbo V8 and not a BMW, I was expecting a neglected AMG but this is even better! I feel this series will be my new favourite ❤
I'm so invested in this project now, i need episode as fast as possible 😂
Absolutely Love This Channel.... Excited to see you Rip into this new project car!!
You are VERY brave mister... Love to see how this adventure unfolds, and the Maserati will probably provide many many hours of video...
10k likes in 2 hours is some SERIOUS engagement - you will have a million subs in no time and I'm here for it!
The absolute best youtube channel ever, just got 100 times better. I don't care that it is not a BMW as long as it is fixed by Sreten. Really looking forward for this project!
You are a true professional with high quality standards and you don't take yourself seriously. This is a rare blend and an example for others.
Your positivity and your appetite for challenges are contagious. It gives me motivation to start bigger things and finish them. It's truly therapeutic and inspirational.
It's great to be passionate with one brand (Porsche for me) and I bet a little variety in brand will be good thing for the channel long term, so it was a smart move to diversify. Whether it will be good for the mechanic mental health and purse, the jury is still out. 🙂
Long live your channel.
Can't wait to see the full process. You are absolutely amazing.
Love the italian pause on the channel. I am here for it.
The Italian Project Chicago 😎 Looking forward to this series
Really fun to see new brands on your channel, can't wait for the next video! Thanks for the content!
If we didn't have TH-cam, beautiful cars like this would simply get scrapped because the costs of repairing unknown faults could be higher than the car's entire value. Keep on the great work! And a suggestion: if you do end up rebuilding the V8, how about giving it the ultimate Ferrari F8-level tune (720 horsepower)?
20:30 mouse in the garage?
Every good garage have a cat!
Cat reveal confirmed! (you can't fix them though..)
Ferrari next 😛, after the E92, there is nothing in BMW welt left. This thing is going to be gorgeous. A gorgeous Fiat-Chrysler-Ferrari.
What about E30 M3, E36 M3, E28 M5, E34 M5? There are lots of uncovered classics from BMW which are yet to be resurrected.
And the m1
@@ZiemoPL Those are gorgeous classics for sure, but the man has now done multiple full engine rebuilds of the most complex NA engines BMW ever made. An E34 M5 would be 3 steps back in terms of skill required to repair it.
That was awesome. Another perfect automotive content video. Can't wait to see the PT2!
Yes, yes, yessss! This channel badly needed a refresh. And what an exciting wild car! Sa srecom zemljace!🤩
Looking forward for this different project. I can understand why you bought this, it sounds glorious.
Maserati Quattroporte is my "second" love after BMW. Thought I was alone on this planet before I saw this COOOMING UP! Thank you so much for this opportunity to see my second dreamcar from inside! Good luck!
This series will be so satisfying to watch, I love Maserati. Thanks for bringing such high quality content on youtube
I was NOT expecting a Maserati! When he said in a previous episode he bought a new car and it wasn’t a BMW, I thought no way! I think it’s actually a Mercedes this time! I am much more excited for this one I absolutely love Maserati’s, fully aware of all their flaws but I accept them for all they are and aren’t. There are basically no videos diving into the insides of this engine and I am very excited to see it! There’s nobody I would rather see tear into and rebuild an engine. I can’t wait for all the satisfying things you do to rejuvenate this Italian stallion! Next up after this one, please get the older Quattroporte I want to see that more than anything! That is my dream car and has been for a long time. I can not get enough of watching videos on those👍👍
Sreten, you're crazy.
Keep going, the whole community is with you!

I had a sq4 version on this car in the same color. it had 82k miles when i sold it and was running great. Under appreciated car for sure!

SOO GREAT you're tackling the Quattroporte! Been thinking of getting one myself, but scared of upkeeping and fixing it. Gonna be a great education, Gudos to you!
So Happy you branched out and took a chance!! Gorgeous car!

VERY INTERESTED in this build! Keep up the great work... can't wait for part 2!
I LOVE these things. They look super classy, drive well, sound great, and are significantly more interesting than any others in class. I’d def consider buying a 2yr old low mileage one after it’s depreciated 50%. I just have zero need for a large sedan
Maserati FTW, especially the previous model GTS. I drove one! Awesome sound..!!
congrats to your purchase! Excited to follow the repair process!
Thank you for doing this. For more than a year I’ve been planning to get the previous gen QP that you didn’t get (yet?) but haven’t seen many makeovers of that one. But now, with you at the wheel, I have a chance of actually following your steps and screw it up less than I would otherwise would 😅

Welcome to Hoovie's Garage, the d... Wait, what?
Not long now until Sreten starts pulling apart old Alfa's with the Busso! Shame you couldn't find a 4.7 GTS, but my god Maserati know how to make a V8 sound good.
I have a transversearly mounted Busso V6, but still it is a lot simpler than this.
As great an engine as the Busso is it’s ancient compared to this, the Alpina B7 and M cars he’s worked on. Wouldn’t be much challenge for him.
