Wow, dude - this is awesome. One of the things I tend to struggle with when using radars in general is how to scale the display to the outside world, I know on the display the target is say 10 miles away, but I don't really know how far 10 miles is in terms of the world outside the cockpit. Being able to see the ground on the display, despite being annoying for getting a lock, is actually really good for gauging where in the sky to look for visual target acquisition, I can't wait to wrap my head around this in a multiplayer environment - also intrigued by how well Jester will be able to manipulate everything your human WSO is doing here and how he'll compare to a real player WSO of various skill levels.
They added this button called Jester Context. It's a button you can press and it basically queues Jester to do something and it seems to work well so far. So if he is hovering over a contact, you can press that button and he will lock it. Excited to see how it goes in multiplayer

17:00 The reason why urban areas are more reflective and water, less reflective (on average) is due to the presence (or lack thereof in the case of water bodies) of vertical surfaces. You will see some clutter from the ocean due to surface waves, but it tends to be minimal unless you’re flying in a storm. Radar gets stronger returns from surfaces that are perpendicular to line-of-sight compared to parallel surfaces (like the surface of a lake).
Water is less reflective in general too. You can actually see the waves on the Phantom radar, not shown in the video but putting the wind up you will see it.

But whenever I jump back to the pikot seat, after about 2-3 seconds the pilots display sqitches back to a 50 mile B scope. It shows the 25 mile PPI for a second or two, then it switches to 50 mile B scope. Why does it do that? What am i missing? Is there some setting somewhere that makes that a default display for the pilot? The only time I can get it to change is if I go to a heat missile auto acq. Then it will go down to 5 miles. Another thing is, there are Jester commands to change the radar mode and scan size, but not the range? I cant ask Jester to change the range??? Whats up with that? So anyway, why does my radar revert back to 50 mile B scope every time i jump back in the pulot seat?😊
I am curious, how would the radar react when it has to meet the WW2 Mosquito. Seeing how that plane is mostly out of wood which is radar transparent, would it still be able to see it?
So basically never going to find anyone in a live multilayer environment, especially in a fireball, which is easy to do in MIG 21. I really don't want to be staring at the radar most of the time and trying to interpret and fiddle with it too much. Then, the experience becomes similar to looking at the MFD in F-16. It's easy to glance at the radar in MIG 21 or Mirage F1 without fiddling too much and then continue to scan the area out of the canopy with your eyes.
