While on keto for 5 years my muscle mass was flat. I changed to 40% healthy carbs mainly lentils, beans, berries, kiwi and potatoes 40% protein mainly from beef and whey protein and 20% fats. These macros recomped my muscles mass and improved my mood, sleep and competitive running. Getting out of the keto cult I now enjoy food again. This was my experience as a 64 year competitive runner and lifter
I lost a lot of weight on keto and carnivore and my blood pressure improved. Because of my religion and bodybuilding attempt I added carbs back. But weight loss is more difficult it seems.

Lesser Evil Popcorn is made with Organic Non-GMO Corn and they use good fats like coconut oil, butter, ghee, and olive oil to flavor it. I highly recommend it over any chips, Costco sells a big bag too.
People get bloated on bread due to indigestable complex carbohydrates. Eating sourdough bread by your own admission increases resistant starch(complex carbohydrate) and, therefore, would make it even harder to digest. Having something indigestable that feeds bacteria is what causes the gas and bloating as it never breaks down that carbohydrate. The ONLY thing that can feed good bacteria and be digested by those bacteria is soluble fiber. The entire point of fermenting foods high in indigestable insoluble fiber and complex carbs such as kimchi, sourkraut, yogurt, bread, natto etc prior to ingestion is because those foods are naturally indigestable in the body and fermentation is a poor attempt at making food humans aren't meant to eat into something slightly more digestible than in it's natural state.
I went carnivore for several months and it was more bad than good to me. I did have some positive changes I liked but the electrolytes imbalances caused very low libido, crazy heart palpitations, weakness. Couldn’t sleep, muscle cramps. No matter what I did, followed everyone’s recommendations, it didn’t help. Adding those carbs made a huge difference sleep and energy wise. Carnivore is not for everyone
Not to mention sourdough is just fucking abysmal bread. Crust as hard as a rock, cuts your mouth, takes forever to eat, not much soft bread to actually eat. Like just eat something natural that actually tastes good if you want carbs.
@fallguy6196 cabbage is indigestable roughage mostly in the form of insoluble fiber. It's fermented to make it easier to digest. Roughage can indeed be bad for the gut. Dairy like yogurt is easily fermented naturally due to lactose. Let it ferment long enough and all the good bacteria will eat all the sugar(lactose). For folks lactose intolerant that can be extremely beneficial. That's why people do well with dairy fermentation more so because it actually gets rid of what most ppl have issues with when it comes to dairy. The problem ppl have with cabbage isn't removed through fermentation so it can still be problematic. Of course if certain dairy proteins are your issue with dairy then you may not do well with it. I personally make my own 24hr yogurt and do well with it.
@alejandroleyva8606 Sorry to hear that. You definitely had the common negative responses to carnivore. I personally get my carbs from bananas, blueberries and Squashes. The best diet is definitely subjective. Glad you are doing better.

I'm curious why do you use whey? I just started taking protein shakes to up my protein, but started out with one that gets it from whole food proteins (beef isolate, pea, brown rice, chicken, egg, and salmon). It's still low carb too and low in fat. Like I said I don't know much about all the different protein shakes, but I imagined whole food protein would absorb right? MRE Lite is what my bro turned me into. I'd be curious on your thoughts on it or if I should switch. I also scoop my protein into it to mix it and take all in one shot.
Whey is a waste product from cheese manufacturing. It is a milk byproduct, and thus is made from a whole food source. You can use whey instead of say a beef protein, it's cheap and as an animal based protein is very bio-available, much more so than vegetable based protein powders. I would also say that as for a powdered beef, chicken, etc... bear in mind that companies are interested in making max profit by using the cheapest/owest quality ingredients...as in, they're probably the parts of the cow you wouldnt normally eat. Sure whey is basically yellow, watery acid and thrown down the drain, but it still comes directly from the milk.
I keep hearing concerns around processed meats and cancer risk. I guess most lunch meats are smoked, which does raise risks of cancer. What is it in particular that raises cancer risk? Sure, the nitrates. Should I be looking at Costco's Kirkland Dark Forest Ham (cane sugar, sea salt, vinegar) in the same light as, say, salami, balogna, or hot dogs?

My hummus recipe if anyone is interested 😁
Canned chick peas - 14.5oz
Tahini - 3.5oz
Avocado oil - 2oz
Garlic paste - 2oz
Lime juice - .3 cup
Water - .75 cup (or to desired consistency)
Salt to taste
Perfect. I would add a dash of cayenne, some cardamom and cumin and instead of water, use the liquid that the can of chickpeas comes in.
I add in turmeric, ginger, cumin, a little heat (chili), I use lemon rather than lime, and olive oil.
I now have something great for my blue containers! 😁
