Good pin method of alignment! Instead of tape, make yourself a wood depth stop to bottom out against, tape can bugger up and then the holes get deeper as you go.
I'm not meaning to answer for the video author, however I found a 12" drill press is the minimum. There are nice table top versions out there. The 12" will handle all your placements leaving routing much easier. Drill bits are cheaper 😆
I like your process better. Normally i step up each diameter. This seems more rational. Id say probably increases accuracy. Ill give it a try on my next set of teles. Thanks!!
Look up Fletcher Handcrafted Guitars and Drilling String Through Holes here on YT. That's where I learned this technique years ago. There are lots of videos on this as well.
Great short video, I hadn't thought of using my press like a pin router. Got 2 teles working now, I'll use from now on.
I'm on my first Tele was just headed out to drill some holes and found this just in time
An indexing pin! I wish I had thought of that! Brilliant.
Damn! Of course! Thanks mate!
Super! I always just winged it.. ;)
Great idea thank you
Brilliant
Thanks!!!

Thanks for watching!!
Brilliant idea!!! how many inches of swing does your drill press have?

Nice work order - shoulder, THEN ferrule hole. I've seen folks do the opposite, and it is painful.

Seen this loads of times. What i want to see is how to do it without a drill press.
Bruh what depth is the tape tho?
Just a touch deeper than the length of the ferrules. I just hold the ferrule alongside the bit and use it as a guide to set the tape.
Tool & die makers trick.
Hmmmm no explanation, with a lot of questions... this isn't a "how to".. it's just a video of you drilling holes without giving any instructions.

If one has the sense God gave geese, this is ALL the instruction needed. Excellent video.
