Glad to hear that you had a nice time with your family. I’m sorry about the scale on your new baby palm, I hate parasites! Jeff (sp?), I think the idea of you not being productive is an oxymoron. I can’t believe Fall is here already. It seems like you just got everything in place and now it’s time to break it all down. On another note, your tortoise’s she’ll is really beautiful. I always enjoy your videos, thank you.
Hi Dori! I know! Can't believe summer is over already! The hard scale really isn't that big of a deal to treat and get rid of when it's such a small amount of them. Should be just fine. 😁
Finally able to sit and watch, the universe has been testing my endurance the past couple weeks. Oh and I am sending you some pants for that excited palm poking his thingie at the other Palm 😄😄😄😄😄
🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I saw that review from homedepot on Instagram! You should be employee of the year! Omg, that flower bud gets more and more inappropriate looking by the day. I had a friend over the other night who looked up at and said, "wtf is that!? It's making me very uncomfortable!" 🤣😂🤣😂
@@TropicalPlantParty I give it to the nursery employees everytime they bring those plants in. They know I only work Sat. Mornings and weekday nights so they try to avoid me, let's just say they are not selling for some reason. 😇
Thanks for how in depth it is! Sometimes it's hard to find pics of potential pests, which is bad if you're a newbie on a budget, and wanna be thorough before buying anything
My run in with scale was with a new Sabal Palmetto I bought from a landscaper. I tried neem oil but never felt like I got anywhere with it. Next time I’ll try alcohol too. After a few years with no luck I trimmed the fronds off and burnt the whole tree and the ground with a torch. It’s doing great now. I figured they have some ability to live through wild fires so what the heck. PS I love your videos and your yard. I live in NC and I’m always looking for good information on growing palms in a cold climate. Thank you.
Hope you get the scale under control thats a beautiful Palm tree and will blend in with the tropical garden and the yard looks amazing thanks for sharing ❤
Love the rectangular pots with the rush idea. That is EXACTLY what I have been looking for all year here for my patio to help hide some utilities (heat pumps). Haven't been able to find the rush, or the planters in the right size here! errr
Rectangle pots are hard to find! I've wanted something like these for years and I'm just now getting them. Can't find rush? I guess I haven't seen much of it this year either now that I think of it. Ebay?
@@TropicalPlantParty No horsetail rush or planters. We've got several nurseries here, plus multiple big box stores and I haven't found horsetail anywhere. Ive been looking since April. As far as the planters go, Ive been trying to find some that are quite large about 4ft long, 12-16 inches wide and 3 ft tall or so.
Agreed WAY too early for Christmas stuff we are just starting to put it out here in NC. REALLY hope the scale gets better for u!! I've been wanting a kentia for the longest but never see them locally! 😍😍
Thank you! The scale should be fine, it's easy to treat when there are so few of them. I never see them locally, least not for under like $300, have wanted a new one for years! I gave away my old one when I was a teenager to an ex... dumb! 🤣😂
Hi Jeff I just got a ceramic non stick pan. I like it it's a breeze to clean...a little bit of a learning curve cooking with it. But I am so done with Teflon they are bad and do NOT last no matter how good you care for them. Have a great day!
Hey Patricia! Is teflon the same as calphalon? I usually have good luck with mine as long as I don't heat them too high. I mostly eat veggies so that's not a big problem anymore. Problem I do have though, all my pans warp just a smidge so they never sit flat. Never had that problem until I got a glass cook top. I'm actually glad you brought up the teflon, I need to read up in the calphalon and make sure it's safe to use bc I have birds. Almost all of my other pots are calphalon and there's never been a problem. But like I said, I rarely heat the pans up to full high heat.
@@TropicalPlantParty Jeff I googled it here is what I found. Calphalon is a brand of cookware owned by the Newell Rubbermaid corporation. Calphalon nonstick surfaces do use a PTFE coating. ... Yes, because they don't use the Teflon brand for their coating. But both are similar in that they use PTFE in their non-stick surfaces. Jeff try the ceramic so far I like it and it literally is a breeze to clean and uses less fat to coat the pan. I was always very careful with my pans those with the non stick coating always failed no matter how careful I was with them. :(
According to various ceramic manufacturers, even if you accidentally heat a ceramic coated pan beyond 450 C, it will not emit any toxic fumes, unlike a Teflon coated pan. Nor will it break down. Which means it’s safe for humans, birds and pets.
Wow! Thank you, Patricia! I may give ceramic another go. I've always had bad luck with them as far as ease of clean up is concerned. But I've only tried cuisinart and le creuset so there are a lot of other options out there.
I think the Dominos commercial is for if you pick up an order for carryout and something happens to it before you get home. Like you trip stepping off the curb and fling the pizza across the parking lot. Take it back in and they'll make you a new one. Where as before they'd just laugh at you.
You should not feed your dog pizza though. Boneless chicken wings would be ok, just make sure they're boneless, and plain just to be safe, no idea what sweet mango habanero sauce would do to a dog.
Nope! Actually it softens the skin and coat. The amount of salt in the water is actually very small in contrast to something like marine waters, and a different form of salt.
We've got Xmas stuff out here in Sydney too lol it's kinda ridiculous the winter things they import that are designed for the state's, Christmas here is usually 40 Celcius (probably about 100-110f). I don't mind seeing snippets of the non-plant stuff either :) have a good week ✌. PS those pots are gorgeous (like the one you used for your water feature)
I have both birds and fish in my home so I avoid any kind of spay. I have had scale and mealy bugs on my bamboo palm and used Bayer Advanced 701710 2-in-1 Insect Control Plus Fertilizer Plant Spikes with great success.
hope you get rid of those bugs, it’s a beautiful tree 🌴 yeah way too early for christmas decoration 😆 Glad you had fun with your family, quality family time is precious - I agree that rest day, doing nothing “productive” is important as it allows your brain and body to work and prep for big days. Take care
p.s. Thank you for showing how you treat your plant with Neem oil, I just tend to panic and throw the plant in the compost. Is it ok to spay with Neem just to be safe, even though there’s no pests?
Oh they should be gone in no time. I've dealt with hard scale in palms plenty of times and it always is simple to treat. I agree, "productive" is subjective and rest can make productive time, more productive. I worded that horribly! Sorry! 🤣
No problem! In general it's best to avoid using anything that kills bugs, fungus, bacteria etc., unless it's necessary. Helps prevent tolerance from developing. However, it never hurts to use a fee drops of dish soap in a spray bottle of water and wipe down your foliage with it. Helps gets the dust off the foliage so they can photosynthesize better, and the soap suffocates and helps remove pest also. Though I guess that's the same as the neem, but it smells better and leaves a subtle shine on the foliage.
🤣😂 I'm just not ready for the reminders that summer is over. If they set up summer things in january I'd be totally fine it. ... that's what I tell myself when I get annoyed by the christmas stuff in august and september. I'm happy the people who are excited about are getting ti enjoy it. ..but also stop! Haha! Jk. Sorta.
Why did my two favorite Koi get so little attention? Bekko (although they might have been Shiro Utsuri) and Ki Utsuri. Based on the patterning and depth of color on most of those, I am guessing those were pretty pricey. Were those large ones even for sale? (I'd wager $1000 and up if they were) And that big GinRin Chagoi? Eew, who wants that? It looks like a regular old river carp with some shiny scales. Now, if you would just do the sensible thing and turn your pool into a pond, you would have the room for Koi. 😜
Ha! Ive let my fish have vacation time in the pool before. In the spring before the chlorinator is running I've let them have a few days of bliss! I wish I could keep fish in the pool! Would need 10x more filtration though. Nah, none of those were for sale, I'm pretty sure those were all just competition fish. Least I didn't see any signs indicating otherwise. I surprisingly liked the GinRin Chagoi! But i like shiny so anything GinRin gets my attention. There were a lot of people around me so I just couldn't get good and long clips of some of them.
When I saw the Ki Utsuri there, I realized how muddy mine's colors were. It must have heard me thinking that though, a couple of days later I took a good look at him and his colors are cleaning up and the Ki is spreading and deepening. It's still mostly black on the one side though. I'm trying to train several of my koi to swim with one side (the good side) facing the viewer.
