    I paid about 50 euros for my plant - a lot smaller than yours! I have not watered it so it drains yet as it's in a large basket - will do this! Winter now and it is not doing much - the cats like to eat the leaf tips - damn 'em - they are being trained! Love these plants - thanks for video.

    Thanks for the video! (coming up PLANTy more videos haha nice). Mine currently has some weird brownish really dry leafs and looks like a bit of mold(?) on top of the soil, so might be a good idea to let it dry out, then thoroughly water it (shower?) and let it drain well

    Do you know why some of my Kentia leaves are curled inwards, unsmooth surface? No brown tips. It's a newly bought plant but just want to make sure I can save these leaves before the die out. I'm assuming they were dried out or over heated in a store? Misting more often would help?

      This plants don't tolerate direct sunlight. I had one before and I'd always trim the yellow leaves as soon as they appear. That one slowly died and it was really hard to get it to grow new leaves. Now I have a new one, I'm spraying water on it daily to keep it moisture and I'm leaving the yellow tips on. It seems to be doing fantastic this time. So I guess his advice of leaving the yellow leaves on up until they're brown makes sense cause the plant seems so be able to still use those for energy as he explained in the video

      Did you repot it? I heard that they don't like being disturbed. Mine's growing quite fast in a poorly lit room...

    • @nourhalabi7302
      @nourhalabi7302 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@uchehasenpai727 thanks for replying. Yes I did report it honestly. Where it's placed is moderate light I would say at north facing window, just it's very long winter and less bright hours. Was thinking to bring a growing light not sure if it's gonna help.
      And if reporting was the problem, how long do you think it will keep taking it personally 😅?

    • @uchehasenpai727
      @uchehasenpai727 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nourhalabi7302 mine is next to a north facing window with a large building opposite, in the UK...so pretty low light😀 But the fluorescent lightbulb is on for most of the day and the palm has been thriving, growing the second set of new fronds.
      I think with trees in general, they need their roots to feel snug in the pot before they resume adding height; my rubber plant stopped growing for a whole year after I repotted. As a human, I wouldn't want to run or jump while wearing loose shoes...maybe it's similar for trees😁. Hopefully you'll get some growth once the roots fill up the pot a little bit.
      Good luck!

      @@uchehasenpai727 thanks once again for replying, obviously similar circumstances for both the palms, hoping for new shoot this spring 😃😃 thanks again. And good luck for you too.

    • @GameChanger597
      @GameChanger597 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nourhalabi7302 I repoted mine AND separated it from another kentia and it still grew new shoots. I think one of the main reasons a kentia won't grow new fronds is if the lighting is too dim. Also, a North facing window is the worst place for a kentia, South facing is the good unless it's in direct sunlight, and East and West are the best placement as long as they're getting sufficient indirect light. I've read Kentias can live in dim light but they just won't grow and thrive. A fluorescent light for your kentia would help it a ton.

  • @girls007kt
    @girls007kt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the info! Just a question, my Kentia had spider mites unfortunately. I've removed the mites successfully however a lost a few fronds and its growth has completely stopped. I'm now down to 4 fronds that still look healthy but it hasn't pushed out anything new in months (and its spring where I live in Australia right now). Just wondering if you have any suggestions to help my plant out? Thanks :)

    • @smartgardenguide2550
      @smartgardenguide2550  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As long as you are focusing on providing good growing conditions, your Kentia Palm should grow new leaves soon. After a bad pest infestation and loss of many fronds, a Kentia Palm can spend many months just recovering, and prioritising survival over growth. Make sure your plant is getting good lighting and add a little fertilizer, as these are the two things that are most likely to trigger new growth.
      Best of luck with your plant
      Andrew

    • @GameChanger597
      @GameChanger597 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use slow release fertilizer because the immediate fertilizer can cause a chemical burn on the plant.

  • @nickeriksson
    @nickeriksson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Will my Kentia Palm survive outside during the summer months from April > September? We have lots of palms growing outside all year round here in Devon as the climate is largely subtropical especially close to the coast.

    • @GameChanger597
      @GameChanger597 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you live within 10 mi of the coast then your plant will grow fine in full sun but any further out than that- especially more than 20 mi from the coast, constant direct sunlight can burn the plant and also make them a pale yellowy green. If you're far from the coast, you're better off putting the plant in filtered light or under the canopy of another tree during the hotter months.

    • @nickeriksson
      @nickeriksson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GameChanger597 Thank you for your help. I live in a north-west facing apartment in central Exeter (within the 10-mile range of the coast), so my balcony only receives direct sunlight early morning and late afternoon during summer, but plenty of bright indirect light throughout the rest of the day.
