It’s easy to make leather seats. In just four simple steps you can have the best leather seats in town. For these I used Tamiya’s Flat Black, Tamiya’s Dark Yellow, Quick Shine floor finish, and Tamiya’s Brown panel liner. For tools I used my .2mm Mobius Airbrush From Gaahleri, a few paint brushes, Q-tips, paper towels, and something to hold the seats while you paint them. That’s it.

Very nice, now, how about black leather? Would you suggest using a gray for pre-shading?
Thank you very much. For black I do use a light to medium light gray and go light on the black. As long as you keep the airbrush straight at the work it will show up nice.
Hey Mark thanks so much, I'm guessing you didn't try the Cleat Orange. May have been too light for the effect you wanted. Thanks for the demo video. Well done as usual even with hitting the camera and not keeping stuff in view. LOL
Thank you very much. Once I got the brown panel liner down I realized that the clear orange would be way to much. Once I get my new shop up and running I'll be able to do so much better with filming.

Any reason for the glossy quick shine over a semi-gloss gloss or a matte clear? Another great tutorial with fantastic tips 👍
Thank you very much. The paint I used was a flat paint. So I use the Quick Shine over it to seal the paint. If not the panel liner will etch into the paint and make it a brown blob. LOL So I seal it and then use the panel liner. Then when the panel liner dries it will dull down the Quick Shine and make it the leather finish that I was looking for.

Great tip. I have one question. What paint did you use for the pre-shading and the consistency of it?
For the Pre Shading I used Tamiya's Flat Black XF-1 thinned to be just a bit thicker than water. I sprayed it with about 8 psi.

@@grandpamarkshobbies If we don’t keep learning, we go backwards! With painting, you can’t reshoot the segment. Later on when the channel is bigger, maybe a second camera and some editing software will help. (Although I still get away with one camera (my phone)
I am moving my shop to another room and I am hoping to make the spray booth more video friendly. LOL I still use my Iphone. I will be updating that before Jan when I start my Friday Night Live shoots. I use Lightworks for editing. It's good software and let's me do a lot.
Great technique and very well presented, thanks. For keeping everything in frame you need to keep your cutting map and camera in exactly the same place/alignment and maybe mark the mat so you know where to hold things so they can be seen.
Thank you very much. To be honest with you, I do have the mat marked. LOL What I need to do is move the camera mount higher so it's over my head enough that I don't hit it and then I can hold the parts more comfortably and in frame. When I get my new shop running I'll be set up a lot better for filming. Right now it's kind of a slapped together setup.

Thank you very much. You are number two from Australia. Quick Shine is a floor polish that is sold in most stores here. I use to use Pledge or Future Floor wax, but sadly those have been discontinued. The quick shine works about the same it's just a bit thinner.

Why not just put a wash in the seat as pre shading instead of airbrush. So much fast and better control. Like a panel liner
I do it this way because it is actually quicker for me. I prep all the kit parts, then do what sub assemblies I can, then I swing around to the spray booth and pre shade all my seats. By the time I spray the interior parts the seats pre shade is dry and ready for paint. If I use the panel liner I have as a wash I need to wait 24 hours for it to cure before I can put the base coat down. I've tried to hurry this before and it got me into hot water, so I just do it this way. Then by the time I'm done spraying everything else the seats are dry and I can put a couple coats of quick shine on them. By then it's time to call it a day. The next day I can use the brown panel liner on them to darken the color a bit and highlight the seams a little more. Then it doesn't matter how long it takes to dry because everything else is done and I have all the other parts pre painted and ready for work. It's just the process I use that works for me. Hi Mark great job! My father was a art teacher back in the sixties. He had a after school model building club. I was born in 1963 and was able to get to his model collection and thought they were toys. As Paul Harvey used to say, "And now you know the rest of the story." Dad put out of my reach. My father passed away two years ago. While going through his collection there is a hot rod kit in the original box and nothing missing. It is a very large model from the 60's. If you would like to have it, (free) I will send it to you. If not to build I think it could be very collectable. Tomorrow I will get the info from the box. It's at the farm right now.

Thanks for the subscription. I use 3M (or a knock off of it) foam tape from the dollar store. I cut it in small pieces and it holds great.

Great vid.. does it work the same for White leather look…?
With white I'd use a medium gray pre shade. Then the white, then the brown. But I'd be super quick with the brown and maybe do a mist coat of white over the brown again.

It can be hard to make white look right. I've also just used black pastels and just dusted the seats with a very soft brush, then using a damp paper towel and wiping off the high sides. That looks good too.
