- How did Korean pop band BTS come to headline one of the world's most iconic stadiums? Prepping to play a sold out Wembley the band, and fans, reflect on their path to pop-stardom.
BTS are the first Korean act to reach number 1 on the billboard charts in the US and the first group since the Beatles to earn three number 1 albums in less than a year. Time magazine put them on their most influential list and they have performed on some of the biggest TV shows in the world from Graham Norton to Jimmy Fallon. They've even spoken out about mental health at the United Nations.
When BBC Radio 1's Adele Roberts first met the seven member K-Pop boyband BTS, they had never been to the UK. Now, two years later, she meets them again as they are about to become the first Korean pop group to headline Wembley Stadium, selling out two nights and playing to over 60,000 people.
Their success has been observed by tens of millions of people, not least Adele Roberts who was first to play a BTS track on Radio 1. In this programme, Adele takes a look at how the band's journey began and how they have come so far in such a short space of time. She speaks to the choreographer behind the famous dance moves, finds out about the role that fashion plays, and speaks to the devoted fans. BTS' fanbase call themselves the ARMY and are a powerful force to be reckoned with, helping the band's latest single 'Boy with Luv', featruing Halsey to become the first track by a K-Pop band to make it into the UK Top 20.

I love how Adele Roberts takes so much time to do her research and not only interviews the boys, but also their choreographer and stylists and just. She does her WORK! She makes sure she’s informed and she doesn’t ask simple surface level questions. Wow I honestly really appreciate her 👌🏽

I think BBC Radio has the best interviewers. Adele for music and Ali Plumb for films. I just love how they take the conversations going. Comparing to most BTS interviews in US, gosh can't stand it. They were all so cringey. All they asked was about America/American things.

i agree with everything you said, except for the title. it is formatted in a way that suggests korea was the lowest point and wembley was the highest, which of course wembley very well may be the highest, it’s definitely up there, but implying that the entire country of korea is the lowest strongly re enforces a eurocentric point of view and discredits all of their successes in korea as well as the success of anyone else within korea aren’t as popular internationally. it could of course be seen instead as “they made it to wembley in the UK despite the fact that the system is rigged against them for being korean” but it doesn’t really seem like that’s what they meant
kfidjwh - yeah I get where you’re coming from, probably could’ve chosen a different title but I also get why the producers came up with that title. Going from home to an international stage - it’s a big deal and does illustrate how far they’ve come
The British interviews were on a whole, the better interviews.
The interviewer was also great, she had a positive vibe and she respected the boys by asking interesting questions.

English not being my first language and have learned it in a similar way as RM (with videos on yt) that happens all the time, we tend to mimic accents we hear not because we’re trying to show something, but bc we learned by repeating stuff, accents just change as we go haha I understand him.

This is one of the best interviews, without constant questions being repeated I.e. who would you like to collab with. BBC saw them as a sole, worldwide known group without asking questions that just relate to Western artists. They saw them as BTS and wanted to know BTS.

@the dude Heres a compilation. Yoongi and most of the members play piano on stage too and Guitar. They also write and produce their own music. My favorite song butterfly handles and talks about suicide. They have many songs that dive into these topics. For me and a lot of people I know Bts isn't about the looks or dancing. It's about who they are as people and the messages in their music. Songs like So far away, Butterfly, Spring day, Magic Shop, Lie all deal with mental health and the struggles of making it in the world today and of tragic accidents. Anyways heres the compilation. Even if you dont check out these songs or change your mind I hope you can understand that music is powerful and just because you don't understand something it doesn't mean not to look at it with an open mind.
