  • 88-year-old Marie Lang was declared incapacitated in 2018 and appointed a professional guardian. At that time, she lost most of her rights. Lang has called the I-Team multiple times, complaining about being under guardianship.

In mid Florida, my GIL was kidnapped by a rehab center after she fell. They said they would not let her go home until she proved she could walk. She wanted to go home, she also wasn't walking before she went in but they were after that money. We won but that scared me for life.

@@snowstorm9310 I agree that paid/“professional” guardians have gained a bad rap. Many adults have guardianship of their aging parent, adult child or sibling with disabilities. It was when the siblings started fighting about things that this women got in trouble. There’s some sour grapes between the guy that lives near her and the other brothers, that really has little to do with their mother’s daily care and well being.

I’d agree, but dementia and strokes are tricky like that. A person’s ability to advocate for themselves and manage daily life and personal care can’t be determined in a 15 minute interview.

I would also say that dementia patients often create the illusion of a coherent mind in a short conversation. Its often stunning to ask them the same thing like two minutes later and it becomes obvious there is no recollection of the previous conversation. My dad had purchased four extended warranties for his two year old car that is still under manufacturers warranty. When they called, he thought he was paying for the mandatory collision insurance. He lost a property our family relied on for income because he didn't understand how to pay the property tax and didn't think to ask any of us. It can be like that, but he sounds OK in a short casual conversation.

Anyone who questions why I never got married or had kids.....just look at this video. I would rather grow old alone...and keep my money to use however I want.
Divorce rate is 56% (with women initiating 78% of all divorces). Kids are hella expensive to raise...they want a car as soon as they turn 16...they want their college paid for...they want help while getting started after college....they want you to baby sit their kids...(give me, give me, give me).
As soon as they become teenagers, they want all kinds of freedom. As soon as they are able to move out of the home...they want less and less to do with their parents.
As soon as the parents start to age and have health issues...they want to put you in a nursing home (of the 5 kids she had....only 1 stayed to help her out). Basically, your kids want to you hurry up and die so they can inherit what they believe is rightfully theirs.
I refuse to play The Sucker Game. I gave up dating back in 2007 (when I was 35)..because it finally dawned on me that most women only want 'Chad with a Bag'. Fast forward to 2024 (I'm 52 now) and literally live life on Easy Mode. I have zero stress, drama, angst in my life...while having loads of happiness and peace of mind. I have plenty of free time to partake in activities that bring me actual pleasure (like sports, poker, walking my dog) without having to justify/explain why to an impossible to do female. My expenses are low and I've been able to save WAY MORE money in the past 17 years than I would have if I had not given up dating.
Seeing videos like this.....lol.....I'll leave the marriage/kids thing to The PLETHORA of SIMPS out there who cant help but put themselves in situations like this. Come late May I'll be heading to Las Vegas to play in The World Series of Poker for approximately 6 weeks (no way could I do this if I was married/had a family)....while situations like this trap countless others.

I did not expect a single cent from her as she and I never got a long. I had no clue how much money she had anyway. I totally expected whatever she had would go to two cousins. I was fine with that. Her money, her decision. Her second husband had died several years earlier and as far as I knew things were settled with his kids at that time. The condo she and him lived in was to go to his kids when Mom died. I knew that. No problem. Next thing I knew, his kids were suing for every cent of Mom's money. Unreal. When you put up a fight and dont just give in, if it is being done nefariously, they should back off. The time in my family they tried to take over an elderly person, they gave her back. It was in Sebring and we lived a bit south of there at the time. If she needs someone to help her be respected and not bullied, I will gladly raise heck for her. If she is being denied her human rights, than the news is wrong about the guardian doing nothing wrong, unless dictating a womans life is now legal?

Everybody knows most guardianship systems never benefit the person. Some guardianship systems have a 3 system connection. The judge, the facility and the lawyer. They work together to achieve guardianship. It can be a corrupt system. When these systems are corrupt it can take many years to uncover the corruption because they do it so smooth and that's because many are involved on all different levels. Its a systems that needs a authority that cannot and I mean cannot be bought.
