Much appreciate your feedback. This is a new direction and not sure if viewers would care about the vast supply chain to get them the exact o-ring part or expensive shiny new reg. Its doing really well and appreciate you watching Erikk. A.
Totally agree. Before retiring, Diversco was my prime supplier and that's why Sandor and I kid around so much. Great guy and company or I would never have done this episode. A.
Had a friend worked in the hyperbaric wing of Shands Hospital, Gainesville Fl in the 1980's. When not in use (likely late qat night) U of F interns would use the chamber to go to 170 feet and see who got narc'd!
Great video guys. Tanks! Goes to show you how things are not as simple as everyone thinks. Computers/technology rule the world today, by necessity. Even something people think is simple, like the Post Office, is highly computerized and automated. Mail hasn't been sorted by hand in many decades. There are TH-cam videos on that subject too. The behind-the-scenes stuff is fascinating. Tanks again!
Glad you liked it David. The VLM storage module was huge and the operator Holly was very proud of how each cube was organized, logged and easy to recall. 49,000 items in 6 units, wow. Your feedback is important as I may do more behind the scenes for everyones education. Thanks for watching. A.
a very important topic. this does not apply only to the diving industry, in fact, this apply to any major industry, construction, automobile ( truck snd bus too) and in any activity wheret here is an organized production. there is a specialty that is called industrial engineering that covers this part of the production organization. the scheme can differ a bit from an industry to another but the basic remains similar, for small outlets as diving stores, for sure that doing business with one or a few distributor is a cost effective solution as they can concentrate on the main activities of supplyimg direct service to the diving community.
When I ran my dive shops, taking care of customers was most of my time. Where would I find time to become an importer for dozens of needed product lines. They do a great service to all dive shops. A.
I have always suspected that a large part of the costs of diving and equipment is liability. I'm sure manufacturers, shops, charters ect. pay a lot for coverage.
The fact that a diver can get a unique part or item in 1-3 days from Diversco to their dive store with no effort or concern on their part is amazing. As a store owner, this saves me lots of time and excess inventory which saves divers money too. A.
Interesting video. One thought though, please let your guests answer the questions and stop interrupting them constantly. It’s really annoying when they don’t get to finish their point. Thank you!
I’ll try but I also get comments about it running long so it’s a balance act Ben. Kevin said the first cut was 40 minutes so we had to get it into a reasonable watch time. A
I like to support my LDS, local dive shop, as much as possible but most of them can not afford the to stock the shelves. So I am forced to go to this really cool machine on my desk where I type a description of a SCUBA do'dad and out pops half a dozen options. I place my finger print on a button and in three days an Amazon van brings my SCUBA parts and components to my residence and I don't waste time calling shops or driving all over town to find out no-one has anything in stock any more in retail dive shops. Now how in the heck is any shop going to stay in business with a modern reality such as this. Heck its so bad they are slow and behind on the regulator servicing because they lack the rebuild parts in house even for the brands and models of gear they sell. Frustrating and when sending gear off to the US largest drysuit service center in the US you have to get into a huge line or pay extra money to get bumped to the back of the first in line line. Then the dry suit is returned and still has issues and they are the best the US has to offer. Unbelievable industry in the most trying of times business wise. My save a dive kit is likely much larger than it was for other say ten years ago because they could rely on their LDS to have the basic top of the line accessories on hand in the shop. Now if you see it online you better snatch it up or you may not have it when you need it. It's super tough to be quiet when you go to any LDS ask if they have a specific product, they don't have it but say we can order you one, and have it here in the shop in a week and I have to keep calling to see if it arrived. Heck I can order my consumer retail items myself and get exactly what I need and save most precious commodity my time and expensive gas by ordering it online and getting delivered to my front door. Now that is automation and consumers experiences and expectations have change to a very demanding situation in modern times. So thought to run a retail business these days.
Everyone has had a bad retail experience at some point, as well as online. Watch my video on this S08E20 "Local Dive Store vs Online Purchase", you will see the pros/cons of each. At some point you will need a LDS for a key part. As long as your ok with the quality and risk of a problem, enjoy. A.
@@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter .I’m not against the LDS, God bless the hard working LDS shops I just hope they can find a way to stay profitable but it’s seems to be a shrinking opportunity of product selection on the shelves across the board. Over stuffed shops maybe a thing of the past the landscape of small retail business is in a state of flux. Very interesting how there is a paradigm shift as online retail giants are consuming a majority of the options. At some point the individual shopper has a reality to there own micro budget deciding where they spend their hard earned dollars. We realize new product is like a can of coke from a vending machine regardless where you purchase from and not only lowest price seems to be the determining factor to buy online. Quick effortless supply location and order purchasing from your mobile phone and shipped to your door seems to be winning may of our purchases.
I tend to respectfully disagree any of those key parts will at some point (likely already are) be available online as well. Unless the manufacture puts some kind of limiting factor on retail sales of its key parts and only sells to a shop with a mandate that they install it under a service agreement with the end user such as regulator rebuild parts claiming they are concerned with diver safety in fact it’s more a business and mitigating lability reason. At some point write to repair activist may be focused on the dive industry.
Oh yes. It was very busy when we visited. Trailer loads of water toys coming in just one day. Would be fun to see the trailer loads of tanks especially Kevin's hot pint ones! A.

Very interesting and informative. Good topic to cover. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!

Lots of thought and effort go into that sort of warehousing and distribution. My hat is off to the people who make the system work.
Totally agree. Before retiring, Diversco was my prime supplier and that's why Sandor and I kid around so much. Great guy and company or I would never have done this episode.

This was very informative, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!

Their system is Amazing. Thank Your Friend and the other people in the video for me. I really enjoyed the information. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful Robert. Divers should learn more about our sport than just filling tanks.
A.
This was very interesting. I love the behind the scenes. Thanks for this!
Welcome and thanks for watching me beat up my dear old friend Sandor.
A.
( If you have not already done it,) can you show a decompression chamber and some of the tech behind it ?
I'd like to but they are medical devices and with COVID, no tours allowed for now. Will try again as this is a good subject for all divers.

This video is great! Solved my burning questions lol
Bet you didn't even know how badly you needed this information. Glad to help PD.

I've got a couple of pink 80's for sale if kevin needs some 😁 Thanks for the tour.
Perfect! I'll let him know. He's a grumpy diver without his pink 80's.

Excellent video
Thank you very much!

Very interesting video.
Glad you enjoyed it William.

That was very interesting. That machine must’ve cost a couple of bucks😂💰💰💸💰💰. Thanks for posting this!
You bet it did. Amazing way to store thousands of tiny items in a small footprint.

How can I get tanks to Africa? Then once I get one, how do I fill it? I want to change the narrative of diving inequality.
Thanks for your videos
There are dive stores in many parts of Africa who sell and fill tanks. Glad you like them Erakah.
A.
awesome content!!!
Thanks!! Something different but still related to scuba.

Great video
Glad you enjoyed it.

I have always suspected that a large part of the costs of diving and equipment is liability. I'm sure manufacturers, shops, charters ect. pay a lot for coverage.
Sadly I believe liability is a big part of all our products and services. Back in the stone age days, you fixed regs yourself so who to blame?
A.
Ladders are that way too. HUGE liability coverage is 50% of the price last I heard.
@@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter Fixed them with the butt end of your Vulcan dive knife!
cool
Yup

Is your knee OK looking like a bit of a limp there mate???
Lots of parts are wearing out at 75. It's from an long ago accident thats all. One of many but I'm still here.
