  • Part 1 of the trilogy, my big three bass heros all have signature Fender bass Guitars as I go through my Steve Harris Fender Precision Bass. It's version 3 but that's just fine.
Hear the story of how Iron Maiden taught me how to believe in myself and gave my life direction.
As I set up the Steve Harris signature bass I got myself as a birthday present when i turned 51 I recall when I was 12 in 1982 I recall a time when all I wanted was to fit in so badly. That is the way I fit in too, so badly.
Everything as it so often does, worked out in the end.

Beautiful!! You must be roughly ages with me.Yeah, being 12 in the early 80s was not easy. Being into Heavy Metal could be dangerous at my school i can tell you! Nope.I never chocked up even slightly!

That’s good because I cried like a baby while I edited this thing!
I will always be grateful that I had metal in the 80s to act as my guide. From Ozzy telling me that maybe it’s not to late to learn how to love and forget how to hate all the way to Metallica letting me know that it’s ok to break away from your common fashion, see through your blurry sight.
This is part one in a three part series about my bass heros having fender signature basses. I hope you like Rush because up next is Geddy Lee.
      Subdivisions!

      Subdivisions!
      In the basement bars
      In the backs of cars

Any escape might help disprove the unattractive truth
But the suburbs have no charms to sooth the restless dreams of youth

Okay, so this is one of the best TH-cam videos I've seen. Why? Because it resonates on such a deep frequency within me.
The Number of the Beast was the first album I ever bought...it changed my life too: My friends and I decided to learn to play because of it. Naturally, I determined to play bass because of Steve Harris and Geddy Lee.
My mother was also an accordion player however, sadly we did not have a healthy relationship and she did everything within her power to discourage me.
Nonetheless, I saved my school dinner money for many months and went hungry so that I could purchase a cheap and nasty Fender P copy second hand. I never looked back.
I could go on about my own journey and deeply personal struggles however, don't want to derail this comment section.
I just wanted you to know how much it appreciate your work!

Absolutely love Iron Maiden. I was born in 1982, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. The Number of The Beast album was released in 1982, and the music video for the title song was filmed at the City Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne. So in my mind, I'm the chosen one. Haha!
Also, for those who don't know, Steve Harris' West Ham bass is the same one he's had since the early 1980s, it started (if I remember correctly?) out as white, then black, blue, chequered(?) then the West Ham finish.

If you get it there's no need for explanation, if it has to be explained...forget it.
I'm living in a van down by the river!
But the music is kickass dude.
I have an original double album " live after death" lp behind me on top of my amp as I type this. A few years ago my cat got pissed off that I didnt feed her on time (whatever, spoiled), and she went and took little chomps out of the extensive tour booklet and awesome inlay picture package that came with the record! Little teeth Mark's all over it. Crazy? I swear they know things. But the Ozzy DIARY OF A MADMAN Lp that sits right next to it went untouched. The perceived law of demonic attraction perhaps has vindicated Oz on this one occasion when pitted against Iron Maiden.

I too have that album and saw the show when they came to my hometown.
Unfortunately… I helped a guy light his joint that was super wasted and he was so grateful he offered me a hit. I only took one toke but it was laced with something and I wound up not remembering the show at all.
When I got the vhs I could remember little bits of it but that night is still a mystery.

@@REXYLAB when I was a teenager I recall smoking some weed laced with " dust". Room spinning around me, puking all over the place. Not such a great idea huh? Lol. Lesson learned, keep it REAL simple. I loved your tribute to my favorite band of all time, for me it was an older brother thing. Being 5 years older, I thought he was the coolest guy in the world, hair almost down to his ass, heavy metal and smoking pot out of beer cans. He had posters of Eddie in our shared bedroom and they scared the heck out of me! All it took. I was a little Ozzy nut, so when I heard Maiden I recognized the classical influence on some of the lead guitar passages. I didnt know then what I was identifying with, I just knew that I heard a similar brilliant beautiful melodocism. That's where it's at.

    • @REXYLAB
      @REXYLAB  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Was I your older brother? Because that sounds like me after my transformation from dorky little kid being pushed around to a hair farmer that took no shit.
Iron Maiden definitely introduced me to a much larger world. My parents sure hated it, so much so that the copy of Number of the Beast getting broken and standing up for myself got me taken away by the police at my parents request. They got a state appointed counselor and everything to try to “fix” me. It was quite an ordeal but it wound up with me getting to play bass.
Perhaps that would make a good video some day.
Yeah, lesson learned about smoking weed with strangers at concerts. I don’t do anything when seeing someone I love.
Next one is already edited and ready to be posted, it’s on Rush. Then after that is the first player Fender ever made a signature bass for. I hope you subscribe so you don’t miss any of it.

@@REXYLAB I will definitely subscribe, my good man. And... I was a ward of the state, ie removed to juvenile placement facilities at the age of 13. My hippie hypocrite mother would say " you smell like smoke. I hate that evil " chauvinist" metal music you are listening to".
A simple " fuck off" and here come the cops. For real, used the police to try and tame me. Oh well.
Live and learn. I dont think metal music was a negative influence in my life, no one wanted to look at the broken and malignant home I was coming up in, so it was a big redirect: blame heavy metal.
I earned my stripes though, not innocent. I ended up working with delinquent youth in one of the same facilities that I had been sent to. Tried helping the kids, thought my first hand experience and empathy would be useful but, nope, same busted backwards system it was 30 years ago.
      Life is good.
      Got my own family now.
      Grateful to God.
Look forward to the Rush episode!

Ok, maybe I wasn’t your older brother. Maybe I was you!
My granola eating beatnik parents didn’t believe in spanking but they sure believed in using the system to discipline me.
      Lazy fuckers.
I believe that metal music from the 80s created lots of self reliant, incredibly self reliant people.

You must be the same age as me!
I have some weird stories, psychic stuff to do with bands too.
BTW, the neck shouldn't be straight at all unless the strings are off and you are stoning the frets. Strings oscillate in an oval pattern so there is supposed to be a bow in the neck, all stringed instruments have this thoug on guitar it is subtle.

    • @REXYLAB
      @REXYLAB  2 ปีที่แล้ว

If you are in your early 50s then yes, I’m 52.
About the neck, it’s a common misconception about needing relief, it can be straight. That’s just one of those things spread by guitar magazines first and the internet now. I used to believe it myself but it’s not true, straight is fine if you like it straight in most cases, and I like my neck straight.
