I stayed out here for 3 years with aunt and her family In her trailer house Wilmington is a peaceful city if you stay out of peoples business plus the seafood out there is amazing I fw Wilmington !
I grew up in Wilmington. There's no place on earth I'd rather live than there. I'm stuck in Raleigh though. I played basketball in those "hoods" and never had any issues. Granted that was in the 80s, but most people were pretty laid back and friendly, regardless of which part of town they grew up.
(20yo Wilmington resident) Shits definitely exaggerated. Stay to yourself and you have nothing to be worried about the majority of the time. Use to take Doordash orders to Huston Moore at night tho, never again.
Wilmington resident here. A lot of gang activity in these neighborhoods now. Getting worse by the month. Wilmington is developing a reputation for violent crime and it's a real shame. I used to drive Uber on weekend nights and there's NO way I'd enter those projects. There's a reason the police have set up "ShotSpotter" devices in these areas. Creekwood, Hillcrest, Houston Moore... Nope! As for the actual neighborhoods and single-family homes, they are slowly being gentrified as more and more people and developers enter the area.
Not all cities are the Hood..some people just dont have the most expensive homes. Everybody trying to make it. I wish someone can pass a grant to make better homes there and bring more businesses so people can work
There are some really sweet people living here. I delivered the mail here for years, visited many at their home, hospital, and church. Still pop in once in awhile to visit.
I lived in Wilmington north Carolina all of my life and it never looked this bad when I was coming up as a kid this place was the cleanest ever and now it's tore to hell and back

take notes folks - most hoods should look like this. just have a small pride in everything looking somewhat presentable. It doesnt have to be perfect, just try to care a little more and at least your neighborhood wont appear as bad.
Long time Wilmington resident. My mother used to collect insurance in some of these neighborhoods until a group of young men surrounded her car and told her they would kill her if she didn’t leave. Fun times!
When I was in high school my parents bought a house in Brunswick county in Ohio Island in three weeks on vacation. When I was in college I moved from Brunswick County North Carolina Oak Island Southport to Wilmington. I lived on sixth Street on the corner of Wooster. And then I also lives in another apartment off Ann street. I loved living there. But eventually things got rough and I moved to Jacksonville. Eight years later I bought a house after hurricane Florence and it’s completely paid off. I miss Wilmington I go down there once or twice a month.
The two neighborhoods shown are hill crest and Houston Moore, day time you have nothing to be worried about, night time is when shit gets scary. Hill crest in general isn’t as bad but Houston Moore is pretty fucking sketchy once sun sets. Definitely a much higher crime rate.
Yo Charlie, NC resident here. Wilmington is pretty rough...but the worst "looking" hoods ive seen in NC is Salisbury and Winston Salem...i heard Fayetteville has some ugly sides too. But the first two cities is on some 3rd world shit in the PJ's
I stayed at the old firehouse (Station No. 2 on google maps) on the corner of 5th and Castle. It's now an awesome Airbnb, or at least when I stayed there in 2018. I was there for about a month. I walked up and down those streets day and night. I never once felt unsafe. People were super relaxed, helpful, friendly, and welcoming. And I want to make it clear that I'm no free-peace hippie; everyone is a friendly, naive person. I fully recognize that there are cultural differences that, if you don't recognize, you can pay the price. I'm just saying I was there, and that wasn't the case. Again this was 2018. I can't believe that was 6 years ago. Perhaps it's different now, I don't know.
