Japan talks from experience. The thing is Japan and other smaller nations around there are well prepared but bigger nations like India, China are not especially with their high rise buildings. God forbid but just imagine a powerful earthquake like that happening in Delhi, Mumbai, New York or Beijing or even any other western countries. It would be total disaster simply because the buildings and other infra structure are not earthquake compatible at all in these cities.
But our vulnerability is lesser tha them, also yes Himalayan plate can create a huge earthquake, but no precautions can save lives in that magnitude and it’s highly unlikely. Nepal is more tectonically vulnerable.
Our big dams do possess the threat to cause earthquake and there are precautions taken accordingly…. I know an engineer who is specialised in studying specifically this and he says that the work is in order, just that we need more further relevant plans…. Few authorities avoid maintenance, and they should be held liable, before anything major happens

@@AnitaSharma-oj3zq I was there in ahmedabad when the Bhuj earthquake hit in 2001 and we lost 20k+ lives. Except delhi, no one big cities in India are in the earthquake zone. So no worries. But God forbid no one should experience an earthquake. It is one of the most scariest things ever.

the megaquake warning (巨大地震注意報) had a very specific time of one week. the odds of it happening are 200: 1 within the next week and the government is asking people to be extra vigilant since the earthquake that happened in Hyuga-nan (日向灘) showed unusual behaviour. Japan has learnt its lesson from 2011 where it was clear unusual activity was happening days before the magnitude 9.0 earthquake hit.
Every year Japan updates earthquake information with statistics and probabilities , and THAT's where that 30 year figure quoted comes from. The longest time in between large (mega) quakes on the Nankai Trough (南海トラフ) is 147 years and the shortest is 90 years. The fault line actually has two main segments, east and west, with the Eastern portion being closer to population centers like Nagoya, Shizuoka and Kanagawa etc. It's usually the East fault that goes first and then the West, like in 1944 and 1946 respectively. In 1854 both segments had mega quakes within 32 hours of each other.

This earthquake did not cause a tsunami like the one in 2011, which has not been confirmed.
Additionally, There were No problems at the Kawauchi Nuclear Power Plant in the Kyushu area where south of in Japan this time fortunately.

I am very sad to hear this news. I think that the issue of earthquakes is related to the geographical location of Japan. I am surprised that they are providing training to children on how to overcome natural calamities like earthquakes and what to do if they occur.
