    Gibbs does not need to have an "MVP" season. The Lions have plenty of weapons to spread around. They also do not need to kick field goals, they need to stay aggressive. What they need is to have a passing defense that can protect a lead. Edit: Some will think pass rush, but really it is more about the coverage or increasing sack rate when they blitz.

    • @powerofk
      @powerofk หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Let’s put it this way. The Lions led the league in QB pressures, but were close to the bottom in sacks. In other words, tons of QBs were able to somehow escape Lions pressure (most obviously seen during the late 3rd, and entire 4th quarter of the NFC championship game). Turn even 10% of those pressures into sacks & hurries, and no one is talking about a week pass D.

    • @sethkrueger9294
      @sethkrueger9294 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's honestly embarrassing how many talking heads ignore the most obvious, glaring weakness the Lions had last year. They finished DEAD LAST in air yards and yards per reception. There is literally nowhere to go but up for that part of the squad, which they pretty much HAVE to have done through free agency and the draft at this point. One of those guys is going to be better than the guy he's replacing(but probably more than one).

The Lions were 18-21 on 4th down with 4 or less yards to go for the season. They had been perfect in those situations in the playoffs. It was the right call. How has this gotten so twisted around? Tom casually says Drake Maye is the furthest of the top drafted QB's to be ready to play in the NFL and William the most ready. This is flat out wrong, Maye was considered the MOST NFL ready, with Caleb Williams the furthest, Maye has played nothing but a pro style offense and Williams has never played one and hasn't even taken 3 and 7 step drop back passes, all he's ever run is a style not used in the pro's and all his snaps have been from the shotgun. Go find there scouting and draft reports, it's all there for anyone to read and all that's happened since then is a couple offseason workouts.
    Yet somehow, without a single second football being played, now Maye is the least ready and Williams the most NFL ready. WTF.

    Blame the NFC championship loss on dropped passes, face, mask deflections, being too aggressive, not having faith in the kicker. How about on that fourth down and 3 yards, in San Fran’s territory, the whole right side of the field was open on the dropped pass to Reynolds. If JG had an ounce of athleticism, he could’ve run for at least seven or 8 yards, instead of trying to squeeze that pass in. I guess it’s not mentioned because it doesn’t fit the narrative.
