Thank you for being so straightforward in your critique. People these days care more about people's feelings than giving the truth. I appreciate when a person can be straightforward in a critique because then that person will know how to actually improve.
I'm not a fashion designer or anything, just a regular guy, I'm a photographer sometimes as a hobby and I found your channel trying to help out a friend that is into fashion as a hobby also. I watched a couple of your videos that day and I subscribed to your channel and I think I watch it more ofter than her, you have such a way to explain things that to me is sobering and mesmerizing at the same time, certainly they way you approach work helps me approach my own, I will be using some of your tips for my photography portfolio, thanks for keeping up the good work :)
Such an informative video!!! I love that you're straight-forward in your critiquing, and that you also offer sound advice on how to make improvements when needed! I so appreciate you, Zoe 😘💕
Would you be able to do a video on how to develop a point of view in your work? It would be nice to see some examples of only portfolios with a point of view, what makes it a point of view, and how we can implement that thinking in our work.
I HAD to stop mid video just to tell you how much I absolutely appreciate you. You have helped me so much with... EVERYTHING. THANK YOU. For your hard work, for your honesty, and for the journey!!! You gave me to confidence to finally apply to the fashion school of my dreams!!! I love you Zoe! :)
Could we have a video dedicated to just couture? It's the side of the fashion industry I'm vying to get in to, but don't have any teachers who know anything about it! Thanks Zoe :)
Ähmm... Maybe I missunderstood it now, but do you mean Haute Couture? If so, then please reconsider, because 1) There is only a small group od brands, which have the right to call it Haute Couture (Dior, Chanel,...) 2) It is very hard to get a job in these companys 3) In the most (by many i mean very company i know) companys you don‘t design those dresses 4) Even if you could design/ create such dresses, you won‘t just do haute couture, you will also do other projekts So I hope you can understand what I mean and I am sorry if something what I said is a little bit of, because I am only 15 (and can only relay on accounts from media and some people who worked in that kind of job) and I am sorry for my bad english
Hi Zoe! You have created such an instrumental platform for new fashion designers, more useful information I've gotten here in the past years than most other places. I need help with my portfolio so bad, its keeping me from jobs, and I'm fresh out of school. Any chance you can create a 15 min review option for the broke, struggling recent grads? 😅
What's your take on someone that enjoys more of the costume design? Is that a separate style portfolio, and can some of the advice you give here be also used in creating that type of portfolio?
Costume design generally tends to be about character and world building. Pick a story. If it’s a period piece, go research the period and see how each character might look in that period. (Then also consider how they got their clothes. Did they make them, is it a uniform? were they bought in a store? If so, were they expensive because the person is rich and so on and so forth).
There's costumey stuff and then there's costume design. I don't think this person's stuff was specifically costume design. Costume design can look like everyday average clothes as long as it suits the character and story. Costume design projects need to include info on the script to analyze how well the design works. Costumey stuff is clothes that don't look quite like ready-to-wear, occasionally diluted period pieces and shouldn't be a goal, unless you have found a definitive market for it and can show it on a visual board. A lot of my advice is pretty general for all kinds of design portfolios, but I am trying to get a costume designer interview for the channel.
"Alright, smart aleck, so what is the full definition of Couture then?" Looks up to see the next video is Zoe's What is Couture video? "Point to you." Great video, thanks for sharing!
Hi Zoe! Great videos! Any tips on how to compress extremely large PDF files? I've tried the optimize PDF feature already and it still does not work. Thank you!

You are better than mine teacher from school.
Hey, are you taking any for 2020? ☺️
Thank you for being so straightforward in your critique. People these days care more about people's feelings than giving the truth. I appreciate when a person can be straightforward in a critique because then that person will know how to actually improve.
Yes. I agree. I could learn a lot from this video because she was really straight forward and show the right way.
Its less about caring for their feelings but just don't want to deal with their negative reactions ....
Again.....these people are so bold and amazing for submitting their work on TH-cam!

I would start with Fashion Portfolios 1, in my Building Portfolios playlist.

Zoe Hong haha I love how blunt you are! No apologies.
I am a Korean fashion designer.
Your footage of doing similar things to me in other countries is very interesting! 👍
Love your perspective. Glad you aren't viewing with tunnel vision and give some harsh comments when deserved. 🎯
Yes yes, please more portfolio critiques

Thank you. I love costume (film ) design and make it my business to study the costume designers of movies.. it is such an art and passion to me.
