I've had a set of these for my "grinding" skates and haven't had issues with pain points. It's been a good skate. I have a wide foot and they fit me nicely, plenty of other skates don't fit my foot as good.

Great review. Wish this review was out 2 years ago before I bought a pair. I love the look and they are undoubtedly a good skate but they killed my feet/ankles every session. I tried everything to ease the pressure points, heat moulding, padded socks, gel ankle protectors but nothing worked. Eventually I just had to give up on the them as they were just too painful. Bought a pair of 909’s and they are so much more comfortable.

Yeah that's a bummer. I got carbon-free like a week ago, slated them for like an hour without heat molding, and my ankles were sore for a week after a casual 1 hour session

I’ve had a similar problem with roller hockey skates I had a weird pressure point where it felt like the laces were digging into my shins I can’t find a pair that don’t do that and I don’t have the money for custom skates that are 1200 bucks that also might hurt my feet and you can’t return

I have the USD Carbon 2021 model and took me a long time to get the ankles to feel painless too… and like yourself I heatmolded mine. What ended up working is skating on them very casually for shorter runs over a longer period whilst really tightening everything down. In the end the foam of the liner just creates a nice pocket for your ankles and you’ll never feel em again. They do need to built that in from the getgo if you ask me but there is probably some issue with ankle positioning wildly varying from person to person which would create some other issues. I don’t know. There is probably gains to be had with the initial fit.

I too suffered with the ankle problem on these, the pressure points on my inner ankle bones were horrendous! Had it on my Gawds FM1’s aswell, but oddly enough not on the FM2’s which are really comfy. I put USD 7 souls on mine and that was perfect for me, just wish i could have cured the ankle issue. I hope with a new model they address this problem cus they are a really great skate.

Took multiple heat cycles above recommended time and temp but my carbon 3s still feel good after all these years and are literally a part of my foot.

The USD carbon padding around the ankle is the issue it's not about the height it's the internal liner, just seems to need a long break in not worth it imo

I skated my friends carbons a couple times & the skate itself is good quality & looks nice. The bad part was although they fit well, I also do not like the low cut boot/cuff. It was hurting so much especially on grinds when you have to flex & the cuff/boot is digging into the inside or outside upper ankle. My other friend gave me his FM3 Carbons that were a size 9 I believe, which is about 2 sizes bigger than I wear in some skates. I unglued the skin from the carbon shell & then gutted the entire boot, removing the integrated liner & padding. I then re-glued the skins back on the shell & I put my own regular liner in them. At the time I was using a USD Phoenix liner in size 7. Skated this setup for quite awhile & didn’t have any ankle pain or issues anymore. The only thing that was a bit uncomfortable was the toe box was just a tad tight but not horrible. I feel that may have been easily resolved with use of a different liner, Intuitions probably would have been perfect for this, just like many were gutting the SEBA CJ Carbons & putting Intuition liners in them before the CJ2 Prime boot came out which was the same boot but finished without an integrated liner & featured a removable liner.

I don't have any ankle issues on my Carbons but they do squeeze my toes a lot. Mine are still relatively new, didn't heat mould them, so I'm certain it will get better. Also I'm size EU 42 and bought 42 so they are as snug as you can get. Practically touching the front of the shell.

  • @andrewedgerton
    @andrewedgerton 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I concur with the mid-ankle digging at the top of the cuff. It's a literal pain. I have wide feet, and I don't have any side-foot pain. I also heat molded the things... didn't help much. My next upgrade is to try and change out the insole. My arches have shifted over the years and I get arch pain when I really try to tighten them. I'll keep you posted on the progress :)

That's the reason why I got myself a set of USD Carbon4's. YES, they're old. But is the only USD Carbon with a removable liner. Not very different to the iqons and fraction's which everyone is hyping 🤷

Relatable experiences for sure! I definitely rate these for big wheeling nowadays, some people won't agree but I've honestly had no issues using bigger wheels on them.
I wonder if a softer cuff would make these feel better for aggressive? 🤔

@@BrandonDrummond throwing my frames on now. Trying the red ground control 60mm HD2 aluminum frames. Boots feel awesome. Have enjoying room on the toe box with no cramping. Always my biggest concern being there aren’t any 1/2 sizes like a 9.5. I bought he US 8-9. Also have the USD same Croft 2. They are super light but have to change the liner Bc my toes go numb. Thanks for providing the link to heat mold these. Appreciate it.

The only thing I don’t like about soft boots like the kaze is that when you fall they get all torn up has this happened to you with this boot I don’t wanna spend a bunch on skates that are gonna look all torn up after 3 falls

No ankle issues here, and I buckle my skates tight! All pinky toe pain for me! Took many months to break them in but the calluses on my toes remain for a year and a half now. Worth it? Maybe. And yes, Carbons are indeed FAST skates. Instantly noticeable. Why are they only good for grinds?? You didn't really give reason. I think you slammed this skate too hard without justification, man. No mention that its the most budget friendly carbon boot and prices haven't changed with inflation. A good buy if you can get passed the break-in period, and you don't mind low cuffs with tons of flex.

Bought the carbon because I loved the look but they turned out to be my worst skate ever. I forced myself to use them for months but the pain at the ankle never disappeared. Each trick was an ordeal. I don’t think I’ll ever buy a carbon made boot no matter the model.

Im interested in the Hardcore Evo but that's pretty far from an aggressive boot lol. This video and a lot of the comments have me happy I didn't end up buying a pair of these last year. Would've been my first aggressive boot and might've had me a little turned away 😂

Those were/are actually my dream pair of skates ever since holding a pair in my hands at our local skateshop, but were super expensive and too small for me. Hah. They just look SO GOOD ... I'd never put white laces in them. Hahahah ... Sad to hear about the ankle problems they give.

He's young, and clearly following the THEM skates hype. As soon as he even got his pair of 909's, he changed his wardrobe to look the part of the 'THEM' skater, so I consider his review biased due to the cultural influence. Carbons are decent skates for multiple types of skating, and THEM skates are far from the pinnacle of brands.
