Wow, you look so happy skating them. It's really cool you had so little discomfort first time round. The ankle/cuff pain will ease or you could speed it up with a heat mold. I find lacing them tight to the top eyelets and having a ever so slightly looser cuff helps. They are great skates. You look very light on your feet with them. Looking forward to seeing more
@backtoblading just bought myself a pair of these brand new for an absolute steal off of blade trade. Out of all the USD skates i have skated these are hands down the best! So confidence inspiring and i’m hitting nearly every trick first try! Also using those steffan wheels and have some Fromm frames to put on 🤟🏼
Great video Law, you nailed everything on these! These are AMAZING skates. Unfortunately I made the mistake of getting them a size too big so I couldn't get over the heel lift. I now have the Gawds Prados in the right size which are perfect. The only negative about the Carbons is the stock Soul plate IS slow for soul tricks. I got the USD VII soul plate and they are amazing. Which is another reason why I love the Gawds Prados as they come with the USD VII Soul plate "stock". The Carbons (& Gawds) can rub the ankles a little but that is fixed by wearing MyFit or Ennui footies The 45 degree strap works as long as the boot is the right fit in the first place, your heel definitely feels better locked in. I now have a set of big wheels on the Carbons to use for "power blading" and ride the Gawds for aggressive. For anyone wondering, they are essentially the same skate (apart from the looks)...the Gawds lining is a little "puffier", they really do feel like sneakers with wheels
These have been my favourite skates I have owned so far but I just couldn't afford them this time around. So I got Nils fifth elements which surprised me how nice they feel. I wish I could combine the two to make my best skates. Your grinds with these were super solid! very nice.
Finaly you tried them :) I wanted to pick them up, but did not want to buy before hearing your opinion :) and now I have ordered the Hendersons’ SLs :) And man, your tricks looking solid!
In 2007 i have dedhi dk2 and this the best skate i ever wear! Comfort, desighn, soft was pretty good. But they have one problem - time of explosion, the boot was so traumatic.
I'm so glad you're enjoying them already! I find the inside ankle rub to be pretty normal at first. I just got a newer pair of Deshi Carbons and had the same problem. I just heat molded them today and it went away completely. USD has an official heat molding video on their TH-cam page so I wont walk you through that part this time. ;)
I skate the original ufs thrones with updated parts but still got the original frames an liners witch are still brand new as I updated parts before skating them
Very nice, i break in my CFree cuffs with a peanutbutter can to widen up the padding a bit cause of a pressurepoint.. helps a lot.. include some thin socks aswell. highest padding point in the cuffs i still feel is a bit hard.
Started aggressive blading with this skate 8 months ago. Out of the box the boots feels stiff. The first 2 weeks it hurts my feet especially on the side area. But after heat molding and lots of usage, they fit perfectly amazing. Switch ups feels much easier compared to when i tried roces bcs of the lower boot construction on the carbons.
Great video, I can't wait for the full review! I own the Carbon 3 Franky morales, bought them some years ago and stopped skating. Started again ~2 years ago and it's just the best time when you get better and learn new stuff! I haven't changed my setup besides my wheels and I'm curious if there is a better setup nowadays.. In terms of frame, bearings etc I would like to hear what you recommend for the carbon 3's Keep up the great work, loving your videos, great help for me, but the geartalk is kind of too techy for me.. Greating from Germany
Oh dear Law. I was about to sell my Carbon '16's as I was never super comfortable on them and never used them much. I felt like they would be good for groove tricks as you've found but I never got to a point in my skating to try it. Now I'm thinking about adding some more heel lift under the insole and keeping them. I'll wait to see your longer term results.
@backtoblading carbon and carbon free cuffs can be really stiff and rub/be uncomfortable until they break in. But once they break in they are one of the most comfortable skates out there. Its hard to go back to skating anything else once you are used to them. Heat molding will also sort out any comfort issues.
Back to Blading my Franky Gawds absolutely killed my ankles for a couple weeks, bruised my shins. As soon as they broke in they were like a totally different skate! I wore mine around the house like shoes, took the frames and souls off, that helped loads. They are perfect now, carbon free boot mind.
I think it one the coolest looking skates on the market. I cant wait to see Dre Powells new skates company, he is getting them made in the US. Dre's Razors skates were hands down the sickest skates Razors made, cant imagine what the skate will look like.
I've been skating the carbon frees and I experience an axial twist along my frame at high stress moments. It could be that the carbon free isn't as stiff but as a heavier skater I really wish I had a pair of adapts, just because if how the souls mount.
I wanna put a 45 degree strap on my USD sways but I have no idea how to go about doing that. Or even wut strap to buy or where to get it. Is this sumthin' u'd consider makin a video on? Or points me in tha rite direction??
I used aeon Velcro straps. There are square indents on the inside of the boot that *almost* line up with where you would put the screws for the strap. Save yourself some time and pick up 9 or 10 mm machine screws from Home Depot. The screws that come with the kit are a hair too short!
I have a pair of the Carbon frees that are great for grinds but they just don't fit. You mention having a pressure point by the cuff, I ended up getting a full on deep bruise about an inch and a half above my ankle on the inside of my shins and they never broke in. I've seen a few people here and there mention the same thing. It seems that some people just can't wear them. Love your videos, I'm hoping you have the solution in a future one.
@@BacktoBlading The Carbon Frees don't have a heat moldable liner so no. I couldn't tell if the problem was the cuff, the tongue and liner making a pressure point where they come together, or where the plastic under skeleton rises up near where the cuff bolt is making a pressure point. The seam in the tongue would make a friction point too if I went out with them for a few hours as well as the bruising from doing royale/topsides/etc where you lean your foot over. Overall I skated them for six or seven weeks. I would use them for a few days until the bruise was just too bad to skate then wait a week or so for it to heal and try again. I tried those little neoprene spats, I tried double socking it, I tried those tongue puffer inserts from back in the day, they never broke in and the bruises came back. I ended up switching to SLs. For sure I hope you have good luck with them. I really liked the way they skated and grinded and they look sweet and they're light. All good stuff, maybe it's just some people's bone structure or something doesn't comply. Clearly most people don't have these issues but I've seen a few people on forums and reddit where they had the same issue I did.
@@littleguyjude4579 I just bought some Carbon Free skates and I am having the same issue. Pressure on the inside of my ankles leaving wounds after skating a while. I have only done a few sessions so far and am really hoping it will get better eventually. I love them except for the ankle issue. I tried the Carbons and my left foot fit perfectly but my right foot was not comfortable. It felt like the front of my right foot got squished. Such a shame because the Carbons look so good...
Winston-Salem boy here! Turned 32 this year. Starting back skating this week after a 18 year break 😬. Still have my Dustin Latimer Psirus’, but they are falling apart. Looking for a replacement skate that’s similar to them. Would you recommend the Sway or Aeon?
Back to Blading thanks for the advice! Really enjoying your channel. Honestly, I usually skated flat in the past and preferred royales over frontsides so I might stick with a flat setup. Also, might skate around paved walking trails with little ledges occasionally when not at a skate park.
For fun I decided to watch old blade reviews lol, I see they once agin forgot the heel pad in those skates, they did that to me with a pair of carbon 3 lol. There is normally as I’m sure you know now a thick rubber shock under the liner, much like your standard omni skates, skated like four different pairs of carbons 3 and it was a toss up if powerslide would remember to put them under the insole or not 😅
I have the carbons 2s at the minute, bought them when they first came out and then left skating for a few years. Now im back I was thinking of trying something a little different. I was going to go down the adapt route. but after seeing you show how rigid they were, Ive changed my mind, Would you go back to Aeons, after skating these? I just wanted a little more flexibility . Thank you in advance, Love your videos.
Does anyone no where I could get some plastics inserts that go under the liner? Because I have some with My fit shock absorbers but I don't want to seperate them their glued. I'm wanting to try a fp insole without Shock absorbers to get flat or less heal raise.
Omar Torres it’s my understanding that USD does not recommend using frames on these skates without the sole plate attached. It’s a shame, because they’re some of the best urban/freeskates I’ve ever used.
Yes and no. The problem is under the soul plate is a soft spongy material. Even cranking your bolts to the max your frames flex a bit. You can do it, I’ve tried but I wouldn’t recommend it.
Dont think ive heard you talk about a boot like this before. Do you think the integrated liner has alot to do with it ? Or simply just a groove and boot design ?
I love soul plates like that, at least in theory I've never had a skate without any soul plate bolts. The issue I always have is it doesn't take too long before the soul wears down to the bolts. Like with my new USD Sway Farmers the rear two soul bolts nice and deep. The front front only a mm or two set in, so I've already nearly worn down to them. Nightmare. I do love the look of those USD Carbons, but I can't justify buying a new skate for at least a year. ✌️
Heat molding them or just waiting to break them in and that "pressure point" should go away. With it being hot during the summer sometimes skating them in the heat will "break in" faster
