  • As paper coffee filters clog up landfills and are a massive contributor to deforestation across the world, is the CERA FILTER the answer to all of the world's problems?
Does it stand up BREW wise to its paper counterpart, or is it full of holes in its story?
We test multiple grind settings across multiple tests to once and for all test how well the CERA FILTER performs and to see just how good the cups of coffee it makes are!!

I am super passionate about coffee and educating people on all aspects of this amazing drink. I love bringing the stories back from the other side of the world about how they grow and process the coffee differently in each farm, in each region, in each country. I also love helping baristas around the world make better coffee for themselves, whether they're at home, professional, competitors and or even just venturing out into the wide world of coffee.
    About Ryd!
In a world where coffee has become elitist and over-the-top hipster, Ryd is on a mission to make specialty coffee inviting and undiscriminating; creating a community of coffee lovers who want to share their thoughts, ask questions and appreciate that we are all on a journey uncovering the delights of home-brewed coffee.

Thanks so much for the amazing review! Totally agree with everything mentioned, from a flavor perspective to the focus on environment.
We hope we can share more from the craftsman ship side in the future as well - it's a really interesting process these are made!

Considering the clogging and the amount of water required to withstall it, I'm guessing that paper and mesh are both more environmentally friendly and less of a pain.

Yeh way more environmentally friendly. It's actually not too hard to clean, I just run it under hot water and it cleans right up.

I have this same filter and have made 2 brews that have tasted great. I'm only concerned about the filter clogging over time. I've heard nightmare stories about this. The instructions say to put it over a gas stove to burn away the clogged coffee but other reviewers so far say it doesn't work. But even so that defeats the whole purpose of being an environmentally friendly filter. I would be curious how this filter works for you over time as well.

Yes I totally agree Pete! I'm just rinsing it quickly under the hot tap of the machine for now. I'll let you know how it goes over the next 1000 cups and see if there's a noticeable decline in sweet flavours or not.

Yes I think it might be difficult with your chemex, however the stand does fit on most cups so it might fit across the mouth of the chemex.
I think it needs a Kruve to help reduce the fines which will make for a cleaner cup. I'll experiment with it more and find out.
I do really love it though and I don't think it's a gadget as such but it might not be for the people chasing the best coffee flavours.

1 year later has the verdict changed? I’m
Considering this thing. I love that there is no paper.

Great question! I should do a follow up video to it. Are you a super fussy v60 brewer? Ie: do you like it to be super precise? If so, this isn't for you. But if you're happy to sacrifice a little precision for the environment this is a great filter.

@@Rydecoffeecoach I am a super fussy, espresso maker, but want to learn pour over. Would love to do it without paper.

does anyone actually put paper into landfills o.O that's... insanely bad waste management... it can be burned for energy or recycled so easily x)
