I must have watched about 50 videos on composting. This is by far the only one which explained the carbon nitrogen ratio so well. Thanks a lot from India.
As a teacher and composting video “fan”, this is the best “how to” and “why” composting video that I’ve seen. I especially appreciate how you explained the ratios with such clarity. THANK YOU
In this lockdown, I've watched about ten vids in a row about composting. All did not manage to show a good finished product, but try to convince that they did. This is by far the most simple and direct. No bokashi, no tarp, no BS! I am now confident that I can do my won. Thank you so much!!
Even a super hot compost (155-160 range), will break down well in thirty days, but still takes months to completely turn into "dirt." Most vids fail to explain that part. Coffee grounds and sawdust might break down in a few weeks because they are small, but not leaves!
Who else is looking forward to getting the grass cut ? I have way way too many dead leaves, pine cones,branches,twigs,sticks.... and NO grass ! I am glad he shows ratios and different ways to do this based on what is used.
Wow, I've watched so many videos on composting and this is the first one that made me understand the 30:1 ratio. I've watched many long videos, but you made me understand more in 6 minutes than the others did in 20-30 mins. Smashing video, thanks so much!
Probably the best conposting tutorial out there! Wish you can make more composting videos, it’s just so pleasurable to watch organic matter become rich dark brown humus gold to grow nutritious and yielding fruits, herbs and vegetables
I forgot all about the 30:1 ration but Ive never had an odor, no animals come and invade. I was always worried about both having a small lot with neighbors very close, Im so glad I finally tried it. My plants have never been so strong. My friends envy my garden and my compost so they have begun composting. Thank you for your instruction, it has paid off.
Thank you Jag Singh for the clearest explanation of the ratios of Carbon to Green mixtures I have watched. You did a great job of explaining How To Make Hot Compost !
Am actually doing this today. Its a first for me. It’s actually the best video I have seen . I totally get it! The way you break it down is so simple . Awesome 👏 Top notch! That’s what we Londoners say😃
I feel like I'm in science class again. That was very infirmative, I will be starting the compost pile next year when we move to our new property. Thanks.
Thank you for this video~ this is the first time composting makes sense to me. I've watched tons of videos, read multiple articles and books, but you my friend, are such a good teacher. Excited to check out more of your content!
in the winter months it is more difficult to find green stuff (nitrogen) so I add organic alfalfa pellets to my compost heap (15% nitrogen) and it heats the pile to about 140 -160 f in 24 - 36 hours and holds there for a for up to 2 weeks before slowly losing temperature. I lay a brown layer then add two handfuls of pellets, moisten and start over with a brown layer. I turn the pile when the temp goes down to 120 F.
Thank you sir, you are the first one who helped me really to make compost and to raise beds in my garden for spring now. I love your video's thank U. 🍀💖
I think one of the best investments I made in this venture, was the purchase of a $20 composting thermometer. I made my mix slightly hotter by adding a bit more greens to the mix, and it allowed me to monitor everything exactly. Also, the taller and thinner you can make the pile, the better use of the heat you will get through a chimney effect.
This video was by far the easiest to understand...he layed each step out perfectly even as far as breaking down ratios...good job buddy, keep the videos coming 👍👍👍
I;ve been using the Berkeley method, a very simliar technique, for a few months now and generally get pretty good compost in under three weeks. I like your tips with the toilet rolls and the coffee grounds. The former I have used but always soaked them and ripped them up before now. Thinking about it though, the notion of leaving them as rolls and hence aerating the pile is a great idea. Thanks!
Best composting video ever. Thank you for showing the ratio calculation which now makes total sense. I have try composting and this video show me that I needed so much more greens that I thought. Also, that I need to add more greens as the process goes on.
Great video, first time someone has shown the math portion. I liked the "Top 5 Microgreens You Must Grow" too. I got a more than a few composting systems. I have a couple worm farms/bins, Compost bin, compost spinner and compost piles (2 or 3 going at a time). I let it predigest all kinds of stuff in bin and use that for piles/spinner. Most of the piles/bin are new material with some bin. Got free horse manure, wood ash, bio char(wood charcoal), coffee etc. Even made my own Lactobacillus bacteria to create my own fish emulsion, that was fun! I am now a new subscriber.
I see a lot of awful videos explaining pretty basic stuff... you did an excellent job with this video. This was the first video I’ve “liked” since 2016
Fantastic video and great tips. Learned a lot and pushing to get great compost. We managed to get some superb compost this year after trial errors and following your tips. Thank you.
Jag, Thank you so much, this detailed explanation is the best i've seen so far! Thank you so much as well for this and all the other tips and videos i've watched from you! First year gardening and it is daunting, but your help has been great!
I guess now you are to be experiencing the joy of composting. What's even more exciting is adding a 1lb of worms to the finished compost and watching how quickly they convert it to castings which is even more beneficial than compost. Can't wait for winter to end to get started again.
Its spring now dont have many leaves around but soon grass clipping abound. Itll be my 1st. Time trying. Some people said to put hay or straw atop of pile to hold smell down n can be mixed in also do it near your green house to help warm it up .
Now I understand why my strawberries down the hill under the tree in my yard is bigger and have less weeds than the ones I have in an old basket I use as a raised bed. The ones under the tree have a lot of dead leaves in it and it actually works amazing alone (as far as I can see)
Wow.... Very impressive... Never ever watched such video on composting. Clearing concept on composting is very very helpful and impressive. I would recommend many people to watch this video so that more people start composting for their domestic use as a first step. I need your expert and sincere advice on adding kitchen waste (biodegradable stuff) like peelings and skins of vegetables & fruits etc, egg shells, used tea waste..... Please advise on thses with your expert opinion keep in view the NPK & C values. I'll be waiting for your advice very anxiously...... Thank you so much for sharing such valuable video.
Awesome Jack you have fantastic videos the info is spot on Cali Kin and Jack are my 2 fav Californian gardeners So look foward to trying this out Autumn in Oz!!!🍁 You described the process so clearly Thankyou🐨🇦🇺🍁
there are no rules but it is considered best to have a heap of about a tonne or more for hot composting. It makes a really good large hot core in the middle that is insulated by the outer layer
I am actually planning making a composting bin right now. So far just been piling stuff up which isn't optimal or attractive. So I'm going to build a 3 phase (bin) 12'x4'x4' composting bin. I have some lumbar from the Douglas First trees we cut and milled so should be decent when I'm done. Looking forward to some great outcomes!
Nice work! According to the Humanure handbook, your method of turning reduces the available nutrients in the compost. This is documented in other scientific research in New Mexico. Thanks again
This guy definitely deserves more than 52k subs.
You're a warlock or something? Now has 85k subs ... black magic.
Lol, this is a great channel. If he keeps it up, he could be a very big channel
Thank you :) Now 115k subs but I don't focus on numbers, I focus on quality content and connecting with my subscribers :)

LOVE that you aren't using any fancy or expensive bins so it makes it easier and basically free to do! Awesome as always.
It's just that easy. I'm pretty lucky I have lots of carbon to work with.

@@Mrmeoggy Would you please stop Bull Sh*ting. Okay on a serious note, where do you get the BS? I suppose everywhere in current times.

One of the best videos to simplify the composting process. Brilliant
Great video. I have 2 outdoor composter and 3 worm bins. You can never have enough compost. 👍Thanks for the lesson. 😃
Explained every thing so calmly.
Thank you Jag! I've been gardening now for almost 3 years. Just because of your advice, I've made my own farm. Again, Thank you!
