Which bike in the vid is your favorite? Of course, I'm partial to the Ibis rides: the Mojo Ti and the Mojo 3. But Brendan's Fat Chance has a cool story behind it, Mike's 3D is crazy light, and his Yeti Ultimate is way rad!
This is soooooo good Jeff!!!!!! Loved it man! Crazy to think thats what mountain bikes used to be! So much huge props to all of the original senders for sure!
Another excellent video, Jeff! I love this new style you've got going on, talking with the locals, shredding with the locals, and doing it on 90's bikes! So cool! Keep up the great work!
I've got to say you are now my favorite Mountaintuber. Despite not launched not long ago, you surpassed other known youtubers easily with the rad skills and video editing style. Even my wife has a nickname for you "Grasshoper" , because of all your crazy high jumps. Cheers from far away Portugal.
Nice to be shining some light back on the Durango area for cycling. I've lived there the last few years and it's nice to see people enjoy what we've got.
Answer Accu-Trax! I had a pair of those! Man... that takes me back to the rad old days of my circa 1987 Cannondale M-800 with scary brakes, flimsy wheels, bad tires and sketchy handling. I wouldn't trade a second of those days! Great video Jeff, absolutely sharing the STOKE in the best way!
So, looked like the old cantilever brakes were a little sketchy on those steep downhill sections. I was there before suspension was accepted. Old timers swore it would never catch on, lol. Rockin' it old school was pretty cool. Classic bikes on classic trails, very enjoyable entertainment!!! Epic skills and technique!
I remember having as much fun 23 years ago on a fully rigid cannondale m800 as I do now on my transition scout or smuggler,as bike technology changes we simply adapt
I spent three amazing years in Durango ('05 - '06) and made some of the best friends of my life there. The community and riding is top notch. Making a living there, on the other hand, is difficult. Good to see Brendan in this video - he's a stand up dude and absolutely rips on a bike and on stringed instruments. ~ ALL-TIME!
Jeff, I just watched this and my admiration for your riding just went through the roof! Ripping with the saddle up impresses me more than any other video you've done! These are the type of bikes I've ridden until very recently and still love them!
One of the best yet! It still blows my mind watching guys ride the gnar on rigid bikes. Man, this was a great edit! The fun of the entire thing (vintage ride and modern bike rides) just came through so well! It definitely got me stoked to go ride tomorrow :)
Way to rock the old school bikes! Being in my 50's now, I pretty much have seen the whole progression of mountain biking from the beginning. I rode all those the trails out in Colorado on those old hard tails with canti brakes and like you guys said, it was just as much fun as it is now. Maybe just not as fast!
Dude, I just found this video. I LOVE IT! I moved to Durango 6 months ago (to ride) and it is everything you portray. Hogsback is one of the scariest rides a MTBer may ever undertake. Skiing on dirt. Come on back anytime! The old bike theme is killer - I have the very last Bontrager RaceLite ever made (in Santa Cruz in the 90's) in my garage! Still rides!
Loved that video. Brought back some amazing memories of just going out loafing around on my first full rigid mtb in the Peak District in the early 90s. Looking forward to more videos in 2019. Have a great new year
Damn that video was awesome! Most talented MTB TH-camr I’ve seen. Can’t believe you don’t have more subs. I hope your channel gets the attention it deserves soon. Keep these coming!
I enjoyed this video. I went to Durango mountain bike camp in 1996 where we toured the Yeti "factory" - after that I knew I had to have one!!! I was recently debating upgrading my old 1999 Yeti A.R.C. XTR (my only mountain bike) and have decided to go for it.
That was rad, no doubt. Kind of a lot of skidding from such a talented group of riders though. I know Mike Wilk’s dad well and have heard many stories of Mike’s adventures.
You inspire me man! Moved from the boring midwest last June, and only really got into peddling maybe 5 years ago. Im a motorcycle freak and grew up skateboarding. Living in Co has changed my life, im 42 now & i feel i have soo much catching up to do! Me & my wife live in Pueblo, def going to make a Durango trip!! :)
Been a while since I watched your videos! You're putting so much quality work into these! I'll be tuning in more frequently from here on! Loved the old Mojo Ti; shows what it's still capable of!
Great stories here man. Damn refreshing piece JKW! I'm 52yrd old hardtail junkie and still Dropping the Hammer in Bentonville to Horsethief Bench drop-in near Fruita,.. all on the best, aggressive hardtails(Ragley, NukeProof). I've yet to own a full-squish. Love this stuff! We're addicted to what we call 'hardtail shuffle'...the back tire dancing around constantly is what makes one feel alive! Lol
Tioga disc wheel was a little worse for wear was it? Anyone else notice the wheel swap? I also noticed you ran modern handlebars on your Ibis which are probably a lot nicer than the narrow old ones. This video was rad. Mad skills on a bike too.
Awesome video! You shred, glad to see you are human and bail once in a while.😁 Durango is an awesome area, I grew up in southern Colorado. Would love to get back down there to ride one day.
My first MTB was a 1999 GT timberline. Old school everything of course, including grip-shift which I thought was the coolest thing at the time 😂 I took it out a while back to ride trails I ride on my athem 29er and trance advance and it was brutal...we are so spoiled now with all the cool tech on the 21st century bikes
Haha that Timberline- was that the steel hardtail? My friends had one in red, but I think theirs was ~1996ish. I loved it- so light and comfy (at the time!).
Such a great vid and Durango is epic. A bike is like a car. It can be old and ugly, but how does it make you feel, when you get in the driver's seat? It might not be as plush as a newer one, but the stoke is just as real, or maybe even more so.
Love the vintage bikes. But vintage cantilever brakes suck compared to today’s braking technology. I have been there once on the way to Moab. This video brings back good memories of riding there. That was about the era of bikes we were riding. I had a trek 8900 with the very first generation rock shox on it.
Still got my '94 DBR Axis TR - cost more than my car at the time, will have to take it out for a rip soon! Great video as always Jeff, still remember waiting for Mountain Bike Action to arrive in the mail!
@@JeffKendallWeed I think by then they had moved most manufacturing to Taiwan, True Temper TT lite frame I think with the stars and stripes but designed in the USA.
As a FLC Alumni (class of '86) I 've ridden or attempted to ride many of the places in your video. Only we were girls with borrowed Schwinns .Who could afford a mountain bike? Who needs suspension or disc brakes? Ned would pass us in a cloud of dust . Be kind to the old women you pass on the gravel roads. We pioneered MTBing in Durango. Wish I still had my good old RockHopper. It was stolen many years ago. And where are the ladies in your video?
Fantastic video. Absolutely love the vintage bikes. I Guess the Fat chance is my favorite. Wouldn't want to ride those old steeds all the time though. Too spoiled with my full sus.
Great video! I should show people this video when they're asking me if I can ride this trail on a hardtail. Because that happened to me a lot when I started riding on a hardtail, yes you can, you just need to be a little more careful about your line choices. But hopefully I can save up the money to get a proper full suspension bike maybe for next season. It's such a great hobby :)
Hogsback was scary! Of course it's steeper than it looks, but the bike would very quickly get going way faster than what the canti brakes could stop before the corners, so all the turns were 100% commitment with no bail out option.

Mojo Ti is an awesome build you make riding it look way too easy!
Favorite was the ripmo :p
Thanks Anthony!
Test, there was no Ripmo in the video!!! I did ride a Mojo3 with Lucas though!
Mojo 3 and the mojo Ti fo sho. Canti brakes are insane, haha!

Thanks Nicholas!
Durango is soooo OG. I remember racing Ironhorse back in the early 2000's. Such a a great mountain biking town.
Totally- it's got way more MTB culture and history than many realize.
Watching you shred on that old ibis was awesome Jeff!!
Thanks Austin!

Riding a Yeti Ultimate or Klein Attitude in Durango was the aspirational goal of 16 year old me in '90 or so.
Nice!!!

Thanks Darren- Durango is a rad spot!
I loved this video. I still ride a 90's IBIS ALABI
Spent 3 weeks in Durango this summer riding with one of the locals. Tough riding coming from sea level but I loved it!
Nice Raivkka! Yeah we were at 12,000' at one point, and I also live at sea level!
Is this a series? It's should be. I would love to see some more vintage bikes ridden in some other places.

Descending down Hogsback with cantilever brakes. Dude. Edge of my seat.
LOL it was sketchy! Did like 5 runs and never really felt fully comfortable!
Love Durango! Used to ride there all the time when I lived in Albuquerque! Hermosa and Colorado trails are some of the best I've ever been on!
Thanks Gnar!!! I'd love to ride Hermosa, maybe on another trip.
What a terrific video, loved everything about it. That gap jump at 12:43 - wowsy!

That was great! Thank you and the crew for putting that together.
Thanks for watching, Rody!
great video as always, love watching your riding style. makes me wanna leave work and go ride.
Thanks Sean!
Teehee!
What a sick video. You gotta come back and shred some more of Colorado!
Durango looks so rad! Now I have to go to Arkansas and Durango!
What an awesome video! As a kid I always dreamed of a Yo Eddie.
Nice! Bontragers were big where I grew up, but so many folks dreamed about them Fat Chances!
Man, such a sweet video. Loved the editing, the mix of old and new and the cool dudes you met!

Great vid! Really liked the part with the old bikes!
Thanks Ibisian!!!
Great video -- thanks - cool you got to meet Gary the owner of the Durango Diner !
Thanks Giff!
I grew up in Durango and rode hogsback, around starwars, around telegraph, around raiders ridge back in 1985.
Sweet! I was born in '85, haha! Cheers Thim!

Hey Jeff, what is the weight of that sweet Ibis Mojo Ti?
Ah Davis, I don't have a scale, so I don't know! It's definitely light though.
ahhh, life before dropper posts!
Hahaha yes, those were the days-- of sketchy descents!
I used to run my seat lower than necessary... it was still comfortable for climbing but I could also drop behind it on steep descents!
Yeah I have it about 15mm below optimal pedaling height. It still works fine for cruising and it's low enough to allow for *some* sending.
How do you like the 2.6s riding this kind of terrain?
They were great! I prefer them in the rocky stuff in CO more so than here in the PNW loam.
Jeeezus that ridge is steep.
Those poor old bikes! LOL
Hahaha as Mike said, they were built to be ridden!
I can only imagine the amount of frames and wheelsets that Tomac went through in the 90s. lol
Sofa king good dude

Did I just see Heath Garvey??!
Heath from Mountain Bike Specialist? Could be???

Is he? I had no idea! He was totally cool with us filming in his shop, which was sweeet!
Shafer is my math teacher
If you want to be vintage and have good brakes, why not just get magura rim brakes? They have tons of braking power
Hey Jeff, you're insane. That's it.
Ha! Thanks, Hogsback was teh sketch though.
That's scary just watching.
Hogsback was scary! Of course it's steeper than it looks, but the bike would very quickly get going way faster than what the canti brakes could stop before the corners, so all the turns were 100% commitment with no bail out option.
