Love the video and glad to see Maci is enjoying all of the cool party modes with this light strip. I am intrigued by the possible adaptive lighting and the security mode scenes that this light strip seems to offer. I will do a bit more research on this one and see if it will fit my needs. I am also glad to see that you were able to get Eve as a sponsor. Congrats.
You never fail with brighten my Monday morning with your new videos. I’m in the process of redecorating the stairs and hall, was dead set on getting Philips Hue light strip for the bannister, but not anymore. 100% Onvis now, will be trying to set up a kids bed routine where the light will be guiding them upstairs haha. So thank you for the light strip, iPad wall mount and automatic blinds.
Hey Arfon, thanks for the kind words! 🙏 That sounds like an awesome routine! I've thought about putting a lightstrip along the stairs bannister also, but haven't done it yet. Would love to know how it turns out! Good luck and thanks for watching!
@@ShaneCreates quick question regarding the LED strip length. Do you tend to go for perfect fit or smaller? My bannister is 3m, and I’m debating 2m or the 5m and cutting it to 3m.
haha I've got an extra one of these hanging around and I was actually thinking about putting it on my daughter's crib! Thankfully we can add the lighting effects to HomeKit, so I can add them to her bedtime and morning scenes. Good stuff, Shane!
I’d definitely recommend setting up an artificial sunrise as part of he wake up alarm. It would definitely help eliminate any school day wake up arguments. 👍🏼 🌞 I built one for myself and it was a game changer.
Good video Shane, I have been looking at this light strip and it’s only just become available in the UK on Amazon. Think I’m going to get this for my office/man cave. 👍🏼 keep the video’s coming!
Funny how you’re doing a review for this item when I ALMOST bought this, but then realized the price difference from the Meross ones. Also, it wasn’t long enough, so I settled for the Meross ones.
@@ShaneCreates I was…until I saw this video. 😂 Seeing all the potential and crazy features the Onvis has made me want it even more now. But honestly, I got the Meross one, because it was 32 ft long which covered my entire bar all around, and it was half the price on Prime Day. 😁 But I can see WHY the Onvis is more expensive; it has SOOO many features!!! The one thing I’m not happy about with the Meross is the limitation on color-changing - you only have flash and breath mode. The breath mode is like fade off/fade on to new color, which is terrible; it should gradually change from one color to the next. Other than that, it is ok.
Hi, thanks for the great review and your honest opinion! I’m thinking to buy this one also put behind my daughter’s bed, can I ask the distance between the light strip to the wall in your setup? Many thanks!
Which one between Vocolinc and Onvis for under cabinet lighting? Looks like the Onvis you can shut off segments of lighting due to not being cuttable, not sure Vocolinc LS3 can do that.
Hi Shane! Do you know of a video to program one of these to simulate street lights passing by in a vehicle? Basically a yellow light that's rolling but instead of white, it's off. Paint templates work but they roll too slow and they go white and not off. The onvis app is not intuitive. Thank you for any help!
Hey Shane. As always, thanks for the nice review. Do you think the Onvis Kameleon attached behind a TV in music mode could be an alternative to Phillips Hue Sync Box?
Not really because the Phillips Hue Sync Box uses HDMI input to mirror the colors that are on the screen, not the audio. I think a lightstrip in music mode behind a tv would probably be extremely distracting.
Question, can you set one or some leds on and the rest off in specific spots on the strip? Wonder cause Ive have a strip now in the sealing and would like to have only the corners lit warm white when watching a move.
Anyone knows if 3 of the 5M strips can be connected or only 2? I sent an email to their support email address a month ago and no responses. I am looking strips for a 44ft room so I'd need 3 of the 5M.
Hey Shane, thanks for the video. I’m actually having some problems using my new Sengled lights with hub in conjunction with my Lutron Caseta dimmer switches. Any advice on how to set them up together to run smoothly? In my bedroom double light sconce, I’ve grouped the bulbs together but the start flashing every time I try to change the color. It has something to do with the current flowing to them through the switch. Have you had this happen?
Hey Mike. Generally speaking, smart bulbs and smart switches don't play well together. I usually recommend using one or the other for each light fixture.
@@ShaneCreates Thanks. What’s you’re preferred type of switch for all your smart bulbs? Do you just use a dumb switch and keep it on? I don’t have a neutral wire in my old house, that’s why Lutron as been working well for me.
Quite similar. They both connect via wifi and they both offer effects that can be used in HomeKit scenes. The major difference is that the Onvis lightstrip has the individual addressable LEDs meaning it can have multiple colors across it at the same time, whereas the vocolinc lightstrip can only have one color at a time. So there are more options for effects and customizations with the Onvis for that reason.
I know that my Eero mesh router has a "troubleshooting" mode that temporarily disables the 5GHz band, which is often all you need to get the device setup via 2.4GHz band. Once the device is setup, then it will pick the 2.4GHz band (because that's all it can) and your network will run as usual. Hope that helps!
@@ShaneCreates exactly but for some reason I can’t get mine to change and split. Both say enabled when I go to my IP address site but they won’t seem to split.
@@nickpanzeca7640 most modern mesh routers, for example, will use a single SSID for both WiFi bands and the router is “smart” enough to select the correct band for devices to connect. Sometimes I hear people have issues with that. Some routers give you the option to split them to separate networks completely or disable the 5 GHz band temporarily.
Nick - you might see if you can rename the 5 GHz network on your router. Mine allows me to do this with a checkbox and then it appends a " 5 GHz" label to my network name (SSID) for the 5 GHz band and uses the original name for the 2.4 GHz band. I then have my iPhone attached to the 2.4 GHz band when I am adding any devices to HomeKit as most of the device setup routines will use the settings from the phone (it's currently assigned SSID and Password) to attach the device to your WIFI LAN.
These Onvis light strips have turned out to be the least reliable light strips I've had. I have four sets of these in two separate homes. All four of these have disconnected from wifi multiple times in the last year or so. Whenever this happens it requires removal from the Onvis App, factory defaulting, adding back into the Onvis app and then Apple Home. Then I have to set up the lights all over again. I'm done with these. All four have disconnected for the last time. It took a couple of weeks but the last two disconnected at the same time the other night making all four sets inoperative. I won't be adding them back in.

These look great! I love that they automatically expose the custom features as HomeKit scenes - that’s the right way to do it!
Agreed! I love when these device manufacturers take that extra step.
I actually picked 3 of these up on prime day. I absolutely love them
Nice! What are you using them for? It’s always fun to see how people are using lightstrips…especially ones that have all these effects.

O wow 🤩 This looks like a very nice product. I’m sure your princess will enjoy it as much as her dad did installing it. Great video!

This looks good. Can you share pics of the installation.. how does it look on the backside of the bed ?
Thanks Jan! There's not really much to show, honestly. The lightstrip has 3m tape on the back. Just peel and stick... that's really it. Super easy.
Can anyone tell me the song at the end? During his daughter’s reaction. I can’t figure it out??
So for the music mode does it just use the microphone on your phone to pick up the sound? Same way the lifx z does or did?
I like it. Does it have a memory mode of electricity goes out then it returns to last setting? Also Christmas mode?
Are there any of these coatings for non black trim. I have a Ford King ranch and it has light brown tan beige trim. Thanks for all you do.

No more than an inch or two. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your videos. Do you have any suggestions for affordable HomeKit outdoor light strips?
The only outdoor homekit lightstrips I can think of currently is Phillips Hue. But they are pretty expensive.

Shane, what lights on the wall,do you use behind you when you are at desk? Is it a light strip?
No it’s actually just a couple of cheap outdoor spot lights, plugged into smart plugs for homekit control.
@@ShaneCreates do you happen to remember the kind you have ( there are so many.). We like the saturation of color you always have behind you
Shane do you think music mode would work well with watching a movie and installing the Onvis strip lights behind a TV?
Can you cut and use 90 degree angle strips with these?

So does the Onvis app have features that talk to the ‘Convert to shortcut’ feature in HomeKit?

Can i use led connector??
Is this 4pin ??
How are they holding up after 1 year ?
No home assistant support?

Is it possible to make it longer like philips hue?
No, I don't think the Onvis is extendable, which is probably why they sell the really long version.

One issue I immediately see... the control/power supply cord/connector too short!
Expensive at $70 for merely 16.4ft.
Idk about that.... 16 feet is a pretty long lightstrip. Other HomeKit lightstrips cost more than that and are only half the length.

But no HomeKit support 😢
RGB?
Yes
