What has the thumbnail to do with this video?
I came here to say the same thing, clickbait is pathetic.@@thelombax
Cillian Murphy, Chris Evans, Cliff Curtis, Rose Byrne, Michelle Yeoh, Hiroyuki Sanada, Benedict Wong, and Mark Strong. Geez, what a loaded cast.
True!
COMPLETELY wasted on a ludicrous script.
Yeah, but it's JUUUSSSSTTT before any of them got famous, so...🤷♂️ Meh?
@@matthewtopping2061true😂
@@matthewtopping2061 Michelle was famous, probably not so much in Hollywood
So, the ship has an intelligent AI that cares about the occupants eyes, but doesnt have the ability to turn on a simple shield that might kill everyone. ight
The only thing I could think of is that the AI was purposefully not given full control of the Solar shield as it is integral to their very survival and to that of their craft. Restricting control of such a critical component necessary for even the most basic of functionins on and within the structure, let alone providing livable temperatures and conditions for human habitation, it’s best to keep control of something so crucial to the survival of Icarus and its crew separated. Keeping control of something so mission critical away from a computer that could very easily experience disruptions from power loss, or glitches from high bandwidth computer circuitry being degraded by the immense radiation of the Sun, is probably for the best.
To be fair technology is like that sometimes.
Everything is not perfect humans make mistakes or they purposely did it.
Plot... No way the shield would not be automated.
They didn't need the shield, they left at night.
Trying to "Jump-start" the sun with a nuke is like trying to cause a volcano to erupt with a firecracker.
It could very well work though. That analogy is idiotic simply due to the sensitivity of volcanoes themselves.
You could also stand to use proper grammar when trying to make a statement.
Presumably he amended his comment after yours was posted...? After all, it's written in quite proper grammar. By the way, you sound about as fun as Geneva under Calvin; you could try lightening up a little ! @@bomberanian
A bomb using all of Earth's fissionable material.
What's wrong with my grammar?@@bomberanian
Would still be but a firecracker to the sun @INFILTR8US
Has the technology to get very close to the sun, still has no way to synthesize oxygen and still relies on plants
I remember seeing this movie as a tot, and two things in particular come to mind:
1: Why would they name the attempt to reach the sun after Icarus, who's famous specifically for failing to do so?
2: Being stuck alone on a space station with limited resources and blasted with radiation and heat really shouldn't put anyone in a state where they'd be able to engage anyone in combat.
as a tot? That is some idiosyncratic expression? What is that "tot"?
And Irarus wasn't trying to get to the Sun, his father Daedalus made wings and told to Irarus not to fly too low or too high...Icarus went too high and according to the logic of the times when that legend was made, he got too close to the Sun... But, in principle you are right, that is an inappropriate name because the story of Iracus is a tragedy.
I said the same thing before I saw your comment. Icarus is a bad name.
It is implied that he had been conversating and communing with an evil entity probably the angel of light, Satan, that had kept him alive in order to destroy humanity by jeopardizing the mission. That's why when Capa says to him in surprise "my God", he replies not your God, mine! And stabs him!

people in 2007 thinking we will have this kind of spaceship in 2057 reminds me of how in 1968 we thought we would have this kind of spaceship in 2007
Yes but the scenario is different, where humanity is fighting for survival. We are not actively trying to make ships like this at present because is not economically viable.
If you forget to turn on the shields that literally protect the ship from being destroyed and everyone on it from dying, you’re just asking to be killed.
Right! Thank you for your comment!
They needed content..... That's where they got it from.
It's silly, it would be automated.
they aren't binary in the sense that they're on or off, the problem in the movie was that they weren't at the right angle to divert or mitigate the radiation
@@wz3953 Imagine having a really intelligent AI that somehow can't rotate something 😂
lol Captain America, Wong, Scarecrow, Scorpion, and Shang-Chi's aunt in the same movie? Insane
They called their ship Icarus… they do know that Icarus died because he flew too close to the sun, right? They’re basically jinxing their ships. The first one was Icarus, the second should have been Daedalus as he was the one that survived the flight and lived on.
In pretty much every space movie the crew falls apart and one of them turns out to be a sociopath. Great job vetting NASA.🤔🤦🏼♂️😂
At least this sociopath was able to survive the sun beams
"In pretty much every space movie the crew falls apart and one of them turns out to be a sociopath. Great job vetting NASA.🤔🤦🏼♂😂"
You have observed the problem..... As if space is not already dangerous enough, LAZY writers still need the crutch of stupid or crazy people to make an exciting movie.
When it morphs from a sci-fi film to just another generic slasher film, I quit watching.
Or they make some glaringly obvious mistake, like "Hey this ancient alien artifact that's been locked away in a sealed vault for millions of years, that we just broke into, yeah I'm gonna take my glove off and touch it with my bare hand."
One of the best Movie Sountracks ever created.
Looks like I’ve missed so many good movies! You’ve opened another door for me to find some of these gems! Thanks! Really like your synopsis of the films. Wishing great success in your endeavors!
...gems?? where???
I really enjoyed this one in spite of the ludicrous premise. Alex garland script with a top notch cast won me over.
And it turned out there was a bit of -extremely speculative science behind their bomb. I wish commentators would stop highlighting the name Icararus as though they are smarter than the screenwriters, it was there for a reason.
if i had a nickel for everytime Cilian Murphy plays a character that designs bombs, i'd have two nickels, which isnt much, but its weird that it happens twice
Well, space is freezing cold, but the lack of environment in which heat to be transferred will lead to overheating, not freezing. You will eventually freeze at some point, but long after you die :)
Well, that's one way to stay cool, I guess!
Scorpion, The Scarecrow, Wong and Captain America go on a heroic mission.
Imagine thinking u can restart something as massive as the sun with a nuclear bomb😂
I think that the bomb is supposed to start a chain reaction.
Don't change mission course mid-way. Do not!
Incredible movie. One of my all time faves.
Beautiful ✨ story!
Hey thank you so much for recapping this film. I may just have to rewatch it now 😊 if you hadn't seen it before i hope you enjoyed it like i did.
Thank you so much for your comment Carl! :)
See you in the next recap!
I enjoyed it until the last third became just another slasher flick
Rose Byrne is so pretty. Also, why would you name the mission Icarus? The guy failed and died. Seems like an ill-omened name for a world-saving mission.
One of my favourite sci fi movies.
Me too! Thank you!

This film, "Sunshine" has good actors and actresses, it is obvious the money were put and all effects are good, but the story... I get it that the story about the sun is just a base, a foundation for making a movie about other things, mainly psychological things, but... The sun is "dying" and human beings made one spaceship that carries, half of the Earth's materials for making a fission explosion...so they are sending a second, which carries all that what in the Earth for making a fission nuclear explosion...But the Sun, the nuclear process that makes the sun shine and gives away energy is fusion, hydrogen under incredible pressure and temperature is turning into Helium and energy is released...That process is called fission...So how can fusion explosion restart the Sun? Besides, even if you gather all material that is on Earth and create a fission explosion...The Sun is so big, it will be nothing, even an analogy with a firecracker is wrong... Even if there is some force to push our whole planet unto the sun, it is nothing...The sun has 98 percent of all material in the solar system... To restart it, one has to bring enormous quantities of hydrogen, not to me some explosions that will do absolutely nothing.
Thank you for your comment Ozymandias! Very interresting!
See you in the next recap :)
@@TheRecapManiaOfficial Of course, I follow your channel, I like your recaps...But I wonder what was that in the thumbnail? some alien, some monster? As far as I recall, there were no such things in the "Sunshine".
I think the idea is like fusion bombs which reach high enough temperature for the fusion by using fission bombs.
@@SilmeBetty Fusion bombs use fission as a trigger, but you need hydrogen, and a LOT of it... Where is that Hydrogen? The Sun used all the Hydrogen... no, that is just a dumb mistake.
Yep, the sun dying would be for lack of fuel. There is no restarting this. At best you could try to create a small back hole inside it, the accretion disk would possibly generate enough heat and light to sustain life. Also the sun will go red giant and shine brighter, not diming when dying. And will take billions of years. It's so frustrating when Hollywood do dumb sci-fi like that. When if you did payed attention in physics class, a trip to Wikipedia would be enough to get the basic idea right. Don't need to be hard sci-fi with even numbers correctly calculated, but a minimum of adherence to reality would be good.
This was an amazing movie actually
Forget about the plot and look at the cast, making this movie at present would be very expensive owing to all these prominent actor's.
That was wild.
Awesome movie 🍿
So this is the first of now 2 movies where mr. Peaky Blinders himself Cillian Murphy is the Architect of the most powerful bomb in the history of humanity at the time in the movie, idk why but i find that pretty cool. In one movie he becomes life by saving all life on earth with it, in the other, well you know
This is a very good movie..Saw already.
this movie was pretty good, when i watched it back then
100%8 Glad you liked it!

I see what you did there!
Damn what a cast 🔥 remember watching this as a kid but 27 now 🤦🏽♂️🤧
Pembacker had super human strength at the end picks him up by the throat
That's incredible! It's amazing to see how far Cap's strength has come.
Well I'm just glad no one got hurt.
Damn. ....this movie is a sci-fi Passion of the Christ. It's nihilistic existentialist trauma porn from end to end.

I understand that the movie had a profound effect on you, and it's great that it inspired you to go and hug your mom. Movies can evoke strong emotions and provoke introspection.
That scene where they watch Mercury pass by.. It looked like the planet was falling into the Sun. Cant describe what I felt at that scene. The crew watch thinking it will happen to Earth too. They witness creation being undone
I have watched a few of these reviews and I did not care for these films.
But THIS ONE, I would like to see in its entirety !

Stop. Naming. Spaceships. Icarus!
That's really like assembling a new voyager cruise ship and naming it The Titanic.
Movie Title - 🎥 Sunshine (2007) 👩🚀👨🚀
Don’t play with fire, especially if it’s the Sun
Thanks!
The cast looks great. Was it a good movie? Why is there no name mentioned? I would like to watch it. Please name it. Thanks.
They put the names of the movie in the details of the video. The movie's name is sunshine or something like that
as soon as i heard "Jumpstart the sun" intrest dropped
manually steer the bomb into the sun? just fling it at the sun, the sun is like the biggest object in this solar system
Good idea sending the human torch on a mission to the sun.
What's the name of the song??
Where is the picture they used as the thumbnail for this movie from?
Clickbait...I hate people like him.
Bom filme bom elenco😊
We all die before the sun does.
wow science is wonderful
also the sun has a surface area of 60700000000000000000 m2 or 6.07 x 10^18 m^2 but the bomb is only 59000 m^2 that means the sun has 1.0288136e+15 times more surface area than the bomb and a nuke usually explodes causing prominent effect to only about 20 times it's size and even the Tsar bomb, the most powerful nuke built by the USSR can only produce an explotion crater on soil 45 times its size. Radition spread by the nuke will not fuel the sun beause stars react by fushing hydrogen and helium. The sun would become a red giant after it runs out of fuel meaning it would begin to fuse heavier elements and create all elements up to iron. Since the sun is not a supermassive star it wont create elements above iron. Nukes dont jumpstart any fusion reaction regarding a star for two factors, it is far to weak and puny, and secondly, the sun dosen't power based on radiation or explotions but by fusing hydrogen and helium. So for anyone who says the movie has any science, they are likley todlers or failed physics and chem in every grade. Thanks.
Please can we provide the background music used in the video?
I thought that the captain is supposed to go down with the ship?
Technically the captain is the any person alive so...all other have died...kappa is it...the captain😊
No, the captain is supposed to go down ON the ship. Not sure on who, though.
I remember a similar movie from the 80's. But there the bomb was thinking and talking
Atleast their mission is still a success
It's great to see that their mission was successful despite the challenges.
What's the name of the music?
I want to know it too
This is reminiscent of Solar Crisis ( 1990 ) and like that film, ponderous and bloated with too many personal agendas that keep mucking up a grand adventure tale. By the end, I just did not care one way or the other.
You, Recap, on the other hand, did a marvelous job. Everyone do yourself a favor and watch the recap and ignore the film.
wut is da background music ples?

Thank you ;)
Wow What a concept, Jumpstarting a F****** sun. Oh dear as if it's damn car battery that can be jumpstarted with jumper cables. It's like trying to pull a fully loaded freight train with your index finger.
for a team put together to save humanity it's a bunch of incompetent fools
I wonder why they never brought any supplemental oxygen in the event of having limited oxygen🧐
That is an interesting question. It would be interesting to explore further.
crew suffocation is a standard sci-fi space travel trope. "We only have enough oxygen for 2 of us!" For a ship that massive, on which the fate of the entire Earth is hanging, to not have a few extra tanks of liquid oxygen is ridiculous. Also, the idea that the crew would have several mentally ill misfits, but that's another discussion.
crew suffocation hahaha your comments are so funny and real@@ChickensAndGardening
The Video Title Pic was so much misleading.
Pinball is nuts.
Who is he
This movie has good star cast
Many from this movie went on the bigger and better things.
ah yes naming a ship icarus that goes to the sun nothing will go wrong
😂
A crewmember on a ship delivering a bomb is named Pinbacker. Dark Star reference?
Job interview:
- Any mental issues in the past?
- Yes. Breakdowns, bouts of aggression, religious fanaticism and suicidal mania.
- Welcome to NASA.
Typical sci-fi spaceship movie.
cappa is from peakey blinders
why is the sun orange like fire
It would have worked if the sun wasn't a living organism going through puberty 😂
Mostly beautiful movie that literally shines from great visuals of the sun, as much as from John Murphy's Adagio in D minor. The ending, however, from the point where ominous Pinbacker comes in, is quite the downfall of an otherwise wonderful cinematic adventure, like 2001 meets Halloween.
"When they receive a message he will be near the sun" Bruh, it will take message under 8 minutes to reach, what is he talking about? People have resources to make a movie but don't have Google on their phone to look for basic information.
Fun drinking game: Take a shot everytime they need to do something on the ship manually.
Goals: Watch this movie my crush. This could be a romantic film too. especially the scene where mercury looks like falling into the sun
Sun madness
This is like Among Us but depicted in a movie lol
That bug on the cover has nothing to do with the film
Not surface, core of the sun.
Also it was never said to be nuclear.

okay i realy thought an alien will show up but how tf that man manage to survive and look like that>??
You had 1 Job - fly the Ship in a straight Line into the Sun.
Why dos this ... Bomb...Ship ... Thing ... has a Crew ?
This movie shouldve been called Icarus 2: Electric Boogaloo
this will happen only before humanity goes instinct
Perhaps! :)
this mission would be canceled if someone told them there is a thing called " Sun corona " which has a temperature of 2 million Celsius and about 3 million kilometers from the surface of the sun 😬
0:49 ... God i am trying to figure out what ways to make a shit ton of references to Akira 1988 after hearing that name. 💀
And just A few seconds before kaneda was literally just Oppenheimer before cillian murphy even played that role.
jumpstart the sun :') the sun outputs about 1,820,000,000 Tsar Bombas per second, Even if we'd throw all of our puny nukes at it it's going to do jack shit.
Why do movie makers always overestimate the power of nukes ? In movies they can do anything .... Restart the core ? done! jumpstart the sun ? sure thing ! vaporize miles wide asteroids ? just need 2 or 3 and we're good to go !
capa is oppenheirmer which made a nuclear bomb and capa is controling the bomb what a secret
Forget about the scientific flaws, the first 3/4 of this movie are really good. The end I don't find as satisfying but well worth seeing this movie anyway.
