@@resourcedragon Totally 💯 Pop psychology and its terma have done so much hurt... I never understood the whole "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger", but I was gaslighted into believing that I had, and that I was wrong if I didn't. Turns out I was right all along; I wish people had told me sooner... I could rant about pop psychology and the pathology paradigm all day, and how it's just a collective trauma response meant to ensure the status quo remains intact.
I mean the fact that I've been traumatized and am still alive means I am stronger than I thought I was, but it doesn't mean that the trauma had anything to do with that.
The sacredness of suffering is also at the core of the stories of oppression and discrimination at the center of the foundational myths of almost all cults/denominations/religions. "Our group is superior to any other group, because we have suffered like no one else."
We don't do wrong to believe that suffering in the course of effort to bring goodness is good suffering. Christian faith the way it is originally described in the classic bible is not supposed to be conducive to pride or ego, but rather to humility, for it attributes the major suffering in salvation to God personally. Institutional religion supposedly derived from this faith a few hundred years hence IS conducive to pride and ego. Gratuitous suffering is always bad.
The way a lot of my fellow Americans talk about how great hard work supposedly is has always rubbed me the wrong way, but I could never figure out why. Thank you for putting it into words. I love your necklace btw

I don't mind marathons But it's just pretty boring in my opinion It can be meditative to fall into a rhythm I find I cough up a lot of gunk in the bottom of my lungs when I do very heavy exercise, it really helps to cleanse me in a very real way because of my lung condition But it's just not as fun as running around after a soccer ball, tackling opponents for the ball and kicking it to your team mates Kicking goals, passing the ball, running up and down a field It's meaningless ultimately, just like marathon running is But the sport and game gives a lot of context to the behaviours, and there can be a lot of pleasure and achievement from becoming more accomplished at a skill you are developing while exercising

No.
Abuses traumatizes you. Abuse harms.

"Hard" work is a shibboleth meant to perpetuate wage-slavery and elite expolitation.

Yeah, us Americans, we are addicted to suffering and overworking. And it's terrible for us. It makes judgy, stressed and fakely happy. (Miserable)
Suffering is deeply tied to capitalism. If you love your work, you're expected to get paid less or do it for free. Good pay = the grind.
Puritanical roots. Destructive and unnatural.
