Mike Shinoda is a Japanese american who grew up in LA. His family were detained after Pearl Harbour in the forties. They were forced to live in a prison camp! He even wrote a song about it called "Kenji".
@@Unearthlywhales Right? It's so beautiful yet heartbreaking. In fact, that was how I first heard about the Japanese internment camps. It's so messed up that I had to learn it from a musician and not a history teacher.
this is the first video of his iv ever seen, and already im stealing some quotes 'rock and rap go together like peanut butter and jelly' and when he heard chester 'man went from screaming like a devil to singing like an angel'
Mike was the mastermind behind this mash-up. MTV asked Jay-Z to choose who he wanna do one mash-up with. He chose Linkin Park... Mike was like "one song?, hold my beer" and answered them with 3 songs, Jay-Z said "Oh sh’t!!" (said Mike in an interview). And then, they made a 6-song album "Collision Course" and a concert. The crowd was handpicked and didn’t even know they were gonna be the first to see Jay and LP together! Please react to Mike Shinoda - I.O.U. or his side project Fort Minor - Petrified
The whole mashup was MTV’s idea for a tv show, where artists would collab. Jay and LP was basically the pilot. MTV cancelled the show after they collabed because there was no way another artists would top what Jay/LP did. It exceeded all and every expectation
I love the look that Jay Z gives Chester when he screams at the end….he was like geez! Linkin park also made a song called “we made it “ with busta rhymes 🤟
That was Chester beatboxing. Chester was literally a human sound effects "machine". He could make so many different sounds with just his vocal cords. You should watch this whole concert. There is a 45 minute video of the behind the scenes and the concert on TH-cam. Just search Linkin Park Collision Course and it will be very near the top. It is a short concert but it is crazy at times. There are 6 songs that are done during this concert. Those songs are: Dirt off your Shoulder/Lying from You Big Pimpin/Papercut Jigga What/Faint Numb/Encore Izzo/In the End Points of Authority (music only)/99 Problems/One Step Closer
That smile at 6:25 is the same one he had when he did Jay Z Unplugged without knowing what 'unplugged' implied. The man was having a blast and marveling at how good it sounded.
They were only supposed to do one song together, but Jay z liked the demos Mike made so much that they made six mashups so good they had to cancel the show cuz they knew it was literally too good😂
Chester was making those noises. He made all kinds of sounds and even did beatboxing etc. I'm very fortunate to have seen one of his very last concerts. The 3ed to last one before he died ❤
Linkin Park where unique, this mash up inspired by Mike was epic, im glad you watched it mate, im a 60 plus year old guy but listen to Chester and Jay on a daily basis have a great life young man
Great reaction! Man when this came out my mind was blown, such a PERFECT collab. The arrangement of every one of these 6 songs was phenomenal. You've gotta watch the entire concert video, there's behind the scenes of them working on the songs together and it's greatness.
This proves music lovers are music lovers. Metal rap mix and fans of one were rocking to the other! I will say one thing, Jay z face proves his fans don’t act like metal fans, we get wild and we lose our minds and he was obviously not used to all that😂 he had respect to them though!
The entire concert is fire 🔥 You can absolutely tell that they are having a blast, the crowd as well. It's exactly the sort of concert where you feel like you're there just watching it, as you did here. I can absolutely recommend it!
ya say Mike could be blacker than you lol but he's actually Japanese-American! Mike is one of my fav rapper, if you dig his style check out Fort Minor : Petrified, Remember The Name, Believe Me. and other Linkin Park songs where he shows off his rapping : Nobody's Listening, High Voltage, A Place For My Head, Lost In The Echo, Until It Breaks, Waiting For The End, Wretches And Kings, All For Nothing, Guilty All The Same (ft. Rakim), We Made It (ft. Busta Rhymes), and many more!!😂😂 I'll let you discover them yourself. Subbed!
I CANNOT believe this 20 years old. I had this and watched it over and over. I loved the rap and rock together and Mike can rock with a legendary rapper. Always loved Mike Shinoda he introduced me to hip hop.
Jay-Z and Linkin Park did really put a half album out there. They made 6 songs together. Jay-Z picked LP to do a rap rock collaboration at the time because it was trending. Jay-Z said that LP is a band with natural hip hop and it fit his style.
Aerosmith & Run DMC - Walk this way Anthrax & Public Enemy - Fell the noise These were early crossover tracks that showed that Hip Hop and Rock and blend into some fantastic music.
5 members of Linkin Park are from California, Chester The lead singer is from Phoenix Arizona jay-z is obviously from New York when we have Those combinations put together makes great music
Rock & Rap, When done properly you end up with timeless masterpieces that everyone loves. I Had to go and listen to it all after this, got me in the mood man & the only way to play it is Loud. Thanks for the Upload Brother 👍🏻 "If you're havin girl problems I feel bad for you son"................."I Got"
This was the idea of someone at MTV or a record label. They came to Mike and asked if he could do a mashup of LP and Jay songs. He basically laughed and told them yes. He then proceeded to make a mini album worth of mash ups...
I was 12 when this came out, living in Edmonton in Canada. I had pre-ordered this album cause Linking Park was like fucking oxygen to me. I listened to this album on repeat for probably a fucking year. 6 tracks that made me feel like the baddest of badasses. 😂 I will say that Collision Course also did a lot to introduce me to rap. I've always enjoyed it, but I also struggled to understand it and keep up with it. I think having English as a second language added to that cause good rap has depth of meaning and layers, that flew over my head most of the time. Collison Course made me wanna know more, and I've been lucky enough to have people in my life that took the time to basically teach me how to listen to rap and hip hop (if that makes sense?), allowing me to fall in love with the art. Anyway, that's besides the point, the album blew my tiny little mind, and to this day, I don't think anything gets me hyped like this track. And I love watching people hearing this for the first time, cause it's the same reaction everytime, and it's exactly how I felt listening to it 20 years ago. Fuck I feel old now.
Jay-Z did a solo show where he performed his part live over a track of LP and dedicated it to Chester. It was really cool but hard to watch, he got emotional when doing Encore/Numb up there alone and you could tell he was dealing with the loss of a friend.
Reanimation is still one of my favorite CD's today, not sure if you've checked it out before, but I still replay it today. Link Park getting together with a bunch of underground hip hop artist to make a CD. It's just to good and what I thought music would become.
Anthrax and public enemy started the Rap and metal collaboration, they were pioneers of their time. I know Aerosmith and run DMC collaborated earlier but Aerosmith are rock. 🤘🏻😀 Anthrax back in the late 80’s prompted bands like living colour and kings X, which helped coloured rock bands become successful in their own right and promoted their talent as artists/musicians. 🤟🏼
Ive said it before somewhere else, but one of my favourite things is the 2nd verse when Mike comes in as the cop. The way he cups the mic, giving his vox a filtered sound, evoking a police radio. It's a cool contrast to Jay's clear voice and helps lean into the characters more.
The BTS of the entire Collision Course album is so epic. Watching Mike, Jay-Z and Chester make music was a highlight of my teenage years. "I ordered a Frappuccino, where's my fucking Frappuccino? Hahahaha".
Yeah Jay-Z definitely looked like he was amazed by the crowd and was kinda stunned and was just taking it all in. They're other songs from this album are pretty good too. Great reaction man!
If you liked how Mike was in this you should check out him with X-executioners, the songs called it's going down. It's got the X-executioners. Mike, Mr. Hahn and it looked liked the drummer and bassist from LP and Wayne static from static-x
I highly recommend the soundtrack from the movie Judgement Night from 1993. Each song is a collaboration between great metal bands & hip hop artists from mid/late 80s until 1993.

Also, Linkin Park have an unreleased track (you can find it on YT) called I Have Not Begun and that is hands down one’ve the best rap vocals I’ve heard. (Just my opinion).
