Um, Ursa? That scientist's description says he only improves the healing for wounded land units. Considering that you are aiming to become a naval powerhouse, he really doesn't give you much besides the boost unless he is labelled wrongly
I remember when Civ 6 first came out I watched the Yogscast guys play a scenario similar to this, Norway and do a ton of pillaging, good stuff :) It can be hit or miss of course since for some reason, the AI sometimes is just averse to improving tiles...
Norwegian unique Unit has too many abilities, can go into deep ocean faster, pillage coastal tiles and gain a lot of yields, ignore ZOC, and heal outside friendly territory. Meanwhile Canada having Caravels: "No fun for you"

2:23 Berserkers are actually great at pillaging. When starting their turn in enemy territory they have movement speed of 4 which is the same as a horseman. Since pillaging costs 3 movement berserkers can move and pillage (or pillage then move) on the same turn. (Of course they do not have Depredation promotion like horsemen.) Also because they have 4 movement they can simply outrun other infantry and even horsemen so they can often pick their combat engagements to maximize their +10 on offense and avoid -5 on defense. Only Coursers can catch them. Furthermore Norway's units pay no movement penalty to embark and disembark by default. This makes berserkers a great landing unit from the sea as well since they can hop in and out of sea rather quickly. Stave Churches can be excellent in the right circumstances and fit well into Norway's play. With Work Ethic religion adding production both to the fishing boats and from adjacency. The dream scenario is having a tundra area with Dance of Aurora pantheon with Work ethic and forests for all the adjacency. A lucky set up can make Norway's holy sites production powerhouses.
If you ever plan to build a navy, you should always get the venetian arsenal. Hell, even building it to prevent the air from spamming a navy is well worth it. That is one of the most broken wonders in the game, and I prioritize it EVERY game I play
One of the awkward things about one city challenges, is that several eurekas/inspirations require two or more copies of a building or district, and thus become unobtainable by normal means. For e.g., Cartography: build two harbours, Printing: build two universities, Industrialisation: build two workshops, Recorded History: build two campus districts, Guilds: build two markets, Divine Right: build two temples, etc.
I’d love to see, at some point, some kind of usury challenge. Like a rule that at the end of every turn if he has any good left he has to sell it to the AI for gold per turn (provided he can get a certain minimum return on investment)
It's very possible as you play Norway. I had a challenge myself where I played Norway against 7 AI on Deity where everyone was in one team against me (used a multiplayer map). My rules was war from turn 30 and never peace again. I had 4-5 cities in total, but I don't think more cities did anything for me other than higher production of ships. I quitted before the end, but it was very winnable, just become a bit boring as I had so many ships in the end. The only issue were religion as if one managed to get religion over me, their team won. (lost a few test games on that in the early game, sneaky missionaries) Culture became an issue late game, but I think I would have managed a victory with Science or Domination.

Regarding the settling choice, I had something slightly different in mind, namely the rice tile to the bottom left. It would make a good +4 Harbor, an aqueduct to the right, a canal to the top right with a +5 IZ and Venetian Arsenal next to it, with the Campus between the mountain and reef and Holy Site towards the mountains to the north west, leaving enough room for the Mausoleum and maybe some other wonders. The start intrigues me, might even consider trying it myself this time. Looking forward to this plunderful series.
got the turn 1 save and played it out, 388 turn loss to khmer diplo victory while science victory was 40 turns away for me. never got to pillage alot due to the outteched ships ai have. got oracle and oxford but iron blocked my massolleum. spoiler arert, there are absolutely no late game stragetics under your city so your mostly stuck on caravels. good luck!
I actually really enjoy playing with tech and civic shuffle. It makes the game feel more realistic. And it's harder to beeline stuff. And of course boosts become even more useful

I would have settled up left one tile on that rice. Would have put you in workable range of way more land overall, including 3 hills for mines to the North East.
Every time I set out to do a one city challenge, I give up almost immediately because it would be so much easier to build more cities. :) I can't let good settlin' land go to waste. It's against my Civ religion.

I know you are making it hard going full Vanilla + DLCs with this, but I would love to have seen you do this with Sukritact's Oceans Mod, new sea bonus and lux resources, only 2 types of sea lux resources spawn per continent, add Dyes to the sea (like Amber,) adds Kelp as a sea Feature (like Reefs) both of which take 2 moves to pass over,) and a few other minor changes like to Fisherys.

just startet this map my self interesting game. i however have gambled and settled the south rice for a + 4 harbour + i have planned a enchampment district and an aeodrome.. im trying to do this without a Campus aquaduct on the marsh next to the rice and an industrial rigth where Ursa setteled im optimistic about this 1 :D
I would think Kilwa isn't that important in a plunder game, because after a while the majority of your science and culture will come from plunder, not from your city.
Lady of the reeds > God of The SEA!!! ? guaranteed +8 production for your city ontop of tiles you were going to build on anyways. Now lady of the reeds is going to be more useless than aqua in 30 turns.

Do they have like a limit on units you can have? In Civ5 you can have around 15-20 units per one city before you take -10% production penalty per extra unit above limit. Is this a thing in Civ6?
@@apacheman3131 I played a game with zombies once, and I got overrun and zombies started to pile up on eachother. Because there were two units that couldn't be on the same tile on the same tile, I couldn't do anything with them. 😒 (the city project that allows you to control zombies might seem like a good idea to push massive hordes out of your territory, but everytime a zombie kills a unit, even if it's another zombie, it spawns a zombie... And zombies can't be deleted through their submenu.)
i feel like rushing a religion is a must for one city challenges. race to river goddess and feed the world. just makes everything so much easier. huge housing, food, and amenities and gives a faith income for whatever else. not to mention any other religion perks you want to enhance

I believe he applies to all units including navy and airforce - I might be going mad but it certainly seemed to make a difference to this game!
the +5 bonus from consuming him should apply to all units, even religious. its his medic effect that is land units only.

Getting the AI to imporve it's tiles is often the hardest thing, totally agree!
Don't forget to reserve a tile for the spaceport!

You can pillage barb encampments with your longship, even if there is a barb standing on it.
That's wrong, you can not pillage a barb camp when there is a barb standing on it, you need to clear the unit

I think war weariness accumulates from troop deaths in your territory, not enemy or neutral territory.
It is a combination of all of that. Very complicated calculation. Have a look at the Civ 6 wiki, it explains it much better than I can here!

No, but you can only have one military unit per hex. You can only stack units on hexes if it's a military unit and a support/civilian unit.

A bit annoying that the save file isn't posted at discord when this vidio on youtube comes online. Sure I want to play along, but can't if there's no save file. Now I'm watching this and cannot play the game without knowledge up front.
