It's easier to get dual citizenship in any Philippine consulate abroad like US or Canada than in the Philippines. They even have consular outreach programs where their representatives travel to nearby areas to serve consular services, including dual citizenship, passports etc.. All you need to have are birth certificates (yours and your Filipina mom's to show that your mom is from the Philippines, yours & your mom's passports, and other gov ID's like a driver's license). You can go to their websites and talk to them or email them so they can tell you what you need. Doing it in the Philippines is painful as they make everything harder than it is and transportation is not that great. Note, it requires that your mom was a Filipino citizen when you were born or she's a dual citizen herself as well.

Exactly. I just got mine a couple years ago. I thought I had missed the window because my mom had been in the States for a couple years already before I was born BUT the catch was that she didn't become naturalized as a U.S. citizen until 5 years after she moved to the U.S. So, she was technically still a Filipino citizen when I was born. It worked out perfectly. So, documentation I had to include along with her birth certificate and passport was her U.S. naturalization certificate.
Yes mine only took 3 months (Philippine consulate) here in Toronto 😊
My wife and two sons become Filipino again in Toronto Philippine Consulate, not that difficult.

I think BID has a list of documents/requirements needed for you to apply for dual citizenship. If you have a lawyer friend here, you can ask for help from them. I do hope that you will get that dual citizenship. You are doing so well in promoting the Philippines.

You are a Filipina Canadian that's for sure - but you also have all the rights to be both nationalities - that is the law in the Phil. - bec. Fil were forced to leave their land due to various reasons - they made laws to make sure that those who left (including their offspring) can always return to what they were before - its the law - that's just about it -
Dapat sana bagohin na ang saligang batas. Bakit kasi mawawala ang pagiging pilipino ng isang pinoy pag mag apply ng ibang citizenship ang isang pinoy.
When you apply for another citizenship you need to give up another but in the Philippines you can apply for dual citizenship, other countries won’t allow it ex. India.
Good luck on getting your dual citizenship! It was a long process for me and I got my dual as well. Then I was able to get my Philippine passport. Not only that, I got my sons dual too! Yeah I tried to get my dual citizenship at Bureau of Immigration in Manila and it took months before I realized there was an issue with my application. They didnt even notify me about it, thats how busy and backlogged they are at BofI. I went home and set an appointment at the Philippine Consulate at Vancouver, BC Canada and after gathering all the required documents it took only 1 day to process..in and out just like that. Remember Philippines is still developing (in this case to be more efficient systematically), and most of the bureaucracy takes time and a lot of the steps are still done manually. It's been like that for a while but steps are being taken in the right direction. Just dont expect much to get done quickly in Philippines...just my opinion from experience. Good luck Bianca!

@@Harzach-Hardcastle7685 Not an excuse but that's the reality. Third world country systems sucks. Almost everything is clogged up. Long lines and in fact chairs arranged like platoon formations waiting to get your turn for a bank teller. I got a worse experience when claiming the land title at the Environment office or whatever that office was called. The front desk guy who seems to be security was very rude and inept to claimants. Since I got an agency who probably bribed him our errand boy managed to get in and get the title quick. But I saw and heard in my own eyes how that arrogant front desk guy was talking down to another farmer who seems not so educated. He was scolding him and humiliating him.
@@josesantaanna It is indeed reality. And if we don't hold them accountable, nothing will ever change. Social embarrassment is a powerful motivator and catalyst for change in Pinoy culture. Not too long ago, they had to revamp the entire DFA passport renewal process because of several fiascos that came to light. If we apply enough pressure as a group, we can achieve the desired changes over time.
Yeah, tell me about it. Those queues are a nightmare. That's unfortunate, as farmers are among the most essential workers in society.

You can almost never be too early to arrive at the airport, especially in Manila. Be sure to be waiting in line 4 hours before your return flight in Manila. As long as your mom was a Philippine citizen when you were born you should be a shoe-in for dual citizenship.

@Eladore whole point was gain citizenship, use it gain residency as married couple. So why not apply almost 2 years ago now? I remember them explaining idea?
She’s young, younger than Michael; my thought, she had the change of heart & goals in life that slowly didn’t require Michael’s presence anymore when she befriended people her own age, involved in their activities, which was obviously out of the context of their vlog as a couple.
She is a beautiful girl, I do not doubt that she will, in the future mingle with the social elites & possibly leave her vlogging gadgets in the closet.
She’s got a lot to learn, and she will, in time. Right now, she will attract more juvenile viewers that can relate to her energy & demeanor.

The world is not really fair. For example, US soldiers in balikatan can go to the Philippines without passport. while Philippine Army can't do so in the US.
To get a duel citizenship from within Canada 🇨🇦 she would need to be under 18 yrs of age. She won't qualify. We are still going through this process with my kids as I write this. It is a long, drawn-out process. The system needs to be overhauled

BIRTH certificate of your mother's request to Philippine Statistics(online ), Birth of Certificate of Children. OLD Passport of your parents IF THE PARENTS are STILL Filipino citizens bring the latest passport authenticated by the consular office. NOTE The parents must be Filipino citizens before your birth.....Good Luck .

@@bighole9597yes. Actually, you don't have to apply for dual citizenship, since your mom was still a PH citizen when you were born. You were born as a dual PH - Aus citizen. What your mom needs to do is to file a Report of Birth at the PH embassy in Australia. (if she's still alive. If she's passed, then you must file the Report of Birth) After you get the report of birth, apply for a PH birth certificate via the PSA (Phil Statistics Authority). Then you can use that PH BC to apply for a PH passport.

Go to Philippine embassy they will give you requirements to reacquire your Filipino citizenship.
Getting dual citizenship is easy, the problem is maintaining your citizenship obligations because you have to pay taxes to two different governments.

Hi Bianca, was your mom still a Filipino citizen when you were born? That is important though. If she became a Canadian citizen and did not reacquire her Filipino citizen before you were born, that might complicate things and become a problem for you. Hope it'll work out. Good luck!
As long as her mother has an original Filipino birth certificate or an old passport. It doesn't matter if what citizenship she was during her daughter's birth.
This is the Philippines where population is out of control and we accept all the chinese nationals that want to come in while we keep our citizens to never let them out of the country. Immigration officers arrogance is part of the problem.
