    What has been the worst thing about RV living for you?

    • @captsam54
      @captsam54 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Working on toilets and black water systems from traveling RV people who think RV repair centers love to work on their poop stuff... NOT... and my boss says we charge double to work on black water stuff.. but do I get paid double to work on that stuff... NO... I hate working on toilets on RV's etc. But for some reason RV people just bring them in and expect us to work on their shit just like it was anything else.. lol.. believe I am finished here.. u can flush this if u like..

    I enjoy your channelvery much. Molly & the kids make it happen 😀 We full time as well. Bought a 1998 Holiday Rambler Endeavor. First cross country trip we got a diesel fuel leak. 2700.00 later we got 37 miles out and it leaked again. Got it fixed. 300 miles and leaked again. Got it fixed. 200 miles and leaked again. New fuel injection pump. 3500.00 more. Bad water pump, 1200.00 more. Then house water pump, black/grey tank seals, Water heater leak and bad pressure relief valve. Furnace blower motor bad. Toilet seal not holding water. TPMS batteries fail. jacknifed a trailer while backing up 2500.00. Thanksgiving day, cooking our turkey and convection oven quits 650.00. Slide out giving us trouble. Ignoring that for now. Water leak from pipe separating in slideout wall from kitchen sink - mess. Just regular maintenance 3000.00 in 2 years. My tires are dry rotting and are only 3 years old. Cruise control quit working blown fuse for some reason. I still have an issue with my exhaust leaking causing low power. My Transmisdion control module and my electric converter burned up costing 3000.00.
    Boy do I understand. Then we drug our towed vehicle for 200 miles with emergency brake on 😀 All of this on only a disabled veteran compensation from the VA. Be glad you have family to help and can earn a better living. Some of us dont have the means to earn more money. all in all, you are healthy and have a great family. Love and cherish them - they grow up fast. Molly & kids are most important to keep happy. Good luck, I am watching and hoping you all keep going. It can be wonderful too! Your kids have you there all the time- that is truly very important.

    When someone tells me they have recently had to repair something I no longer ask what sort of RV they have. It doesn't matter because whether it is old, older or newer...everyone has multiple issues with their rig IF living in it full-time. I finally switched to a 26 foot cargo trailer and converted it to my home. If you "build you own" you will have fewer issues. It is a wonderful way to go.

    I have 2 RVs and everything breaks all the time. In fact if I take a trip and nothing breaks I think it’s a cruel joke and I smash something. It’s just the way it is. Laugh at it, we live in the greatest country in the world and a busted RV just ain’t that bad. The boys look great by the way.

  • @carllarsen6234
    @carllarsen6234 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yes, RV's break all the time. Basic auto repair and extensive knowlege of electrical systems are mandatory for RV ownership, as they are built out of fibreglass, staples, and construction adhesive; and assembled by minimally skilled laborers I know, I own a repair facility.

  • @georgemulligan8958

    Yes because 90% of the RVs are built like absolute junk. Started with a top-of-the-line gas unit, Pace Arrow, triple slide single axle and the thing broke down every week. It was 6 months old so I figured it out, most of the minor issues would have been taken care of but no such thing. I had to move up to a $225,000 used unit ,an Entegra Diesel Pusher, to get quality , over half a million miles now with very minor issues. Unfortunately in the RV industry you have to go well above $200,000 to get something decent and forget about a gas unit traveling the mountains

  • @LowsJuan

    When you bought the fleetwood I was kind of surprised, as they are not known as being one of the more reliable brands, unlike airstream. Cummins owns the rv genny market so there is no reason to improve or change there product. Can you imagine if you went on a holiday for 6 weeks came home and your car wouldn't start? Yep gotta cycle them every 4 weeks or dey don't work. Wish Honda would make RV generators then there would be a lot of green boxes sitting in a warehouse collecting dust. These Cummins generators are no cheaper than hondas anyways. Hopefully, this will be the end of your troubles, lucky you have a lot of friends and relatives to stay with, most people don't have that advantage.

    I have a 2000 Bounder 36s. Built like a tank .
    V-10 Engine runs great. Burns no oil.
    Have replaced furnaces, air conditioners, the generator, and recently the water heater. Had other minor problems but mostly just normal maintenance and wear and tear.
    Worst event was from two blowouts. One many years ago and one three months ago on the way to getting six new tires. Preventable if tires are replaced sooner.
    Coming up on 100 k miles and still looks good and runs good.

    We have things breaking all the time. This is actually one of the reasons we chose a travel trailer instead of a motor home, if the truck needs repair we still have our home. However, we have had our 2018 travel trailer in the shop 6 times in the past year for repair, the underpinning has come loose more then once, the electrical had a major short and we spent the summer in UT, WY and MT with no electric. our bed (Murphy bed) hinge broke, multiple things. Currently our hot water heater needs some work on it.

    I can't imagine how it would be for us to address all the problems that you have had with the RV. Yikes! :-( I suppose that you are getting all the Dallas-area work done at REV's Alvarado service center. I have found REV (the Decatur, IN service center) to be vastly superior to dealer service departments such as Camping World of Chattanooga. Aside from that I do hope that you are contributing to, or created and are maintaining a list of all the places you have had service and how good the place was. You have a very valuable, and hard-earned, set of information from all the problems you have had. You are well on your way to having an excellent RV, given how extensively you have had to repair or replace stuff. Is the refrigerator repaired and working now? If you are ever near Chattanooga, Tennessee, please let me know and you can park your RV at our RV barn (where we keep ours) and avail yourselves of the full hookups. :-) Also, the Freightliner dealer in Chattanooga (Premier Truck Group in Ringgold, GA) has an excellent RV technician -- Les -- and are certified to do any Cummins work. Further, Allison Transmission has a service center across the road from Freightliner. Happy trails! :-)

    We're not *full time* RV'ers. Although we DO camp/boondock very very frequently. Every weekend at a minimum, and usually more often than that...but somehow, in the past 8 years of owning our RV, we've essentially been able to keep from ever actually using the black tank pump at ALL. Because...honestly? They're a nightmare. We use an...inventive(?) alternative of lining the RV toilet with various things, but definitely tend to favor using campground bathhouses--when available.
    You guys are definitely NOT alone in dealing with the trauma of black tank problems. HUGE amount of sympathy for you having to deal with that though...I know it's not fun! :S
    Molly said something about the Bus being a 'lemon'. If I had to guess---you' probably would have been happy if it had been a LITERAL giant lemon at the time.
    ...It would have smelled better!

    His videos are informative and can help you avoid getting caught in a bad situation.
    One thing that I have learned is that RVers who have vlogs receive much better service because the service providers know that their actions are being broadcasted for all to see.

      Roy Davis: Refrigerator story is sooo familiar. We bought a Tiffin Allegro Bay Lt. because it was set up so we could rearrange to get our wheelchair bound son in and sleep comfortably. We bought it knowing that the owner was having trouble with the frig. He had the frig in the shop 2 times at $600 apiece only to have them tell him there was nothing they could fix. So knowing we would have to purchase a frig, bought and proceeded. $1300 later we installed a frig that DID NOT work. 5 hours later found out there was a separate fuse way under the RV for only the frig and of course the fuse was blown. New fuse $2.15 and we have frig that's great. Now we have a 6.9 cf frig for sale - that works. We haven't had a lot of breakage since this RV supposedly was 'broke in', but you're right there's always little things to be fixed. And learned!

    Don't forget the Golden Rule and to treat others the way you would want to be treated. Next time get out of your car and go over and see if they need help before you tattle tale by calling the cops. These days the cops do more harm than good. If they are drunk and no one is hurt, so be it. Stay out of their business. Nobody should be thrown in jail for being drunk.

      Yeah, usually that would have been my M/O. And that was what I felt so bad, I don't like making life more difficult on people than their bad decisions already make. Originally, it sounded like it was on the other side of the highway and 3 or 4 cars that were in the accident, plus there was some orange light or something on the other side of the road that made it look like something was on fire. I was surprised to see them on this side of the highway. I was down at my RV cleaning about 100 yards from the highway so I couldn't tell what was going on, and thought it sounded bad enough that someone could be caught in fire. Still, I'm not sure I agree about the whole no one should be thrown in jail for being drunk if he had of veered right instead of left, he could have been in the RV park, and then it wouldn't have been just a brick wall with some scrapes, it would have been a family or 2's lives changed forever. Driving impaired is never cool, too many kids and adults dead because of this. I was more concerned the fact the guy didn't have a license however, I don't think he was drunk, maybe high though. Felt bad, still don't drive impaired!!

      Are you friggin crazy he was driving under the influence. How is it ratting someone crashed he called 911 for help . You obviously have no idea what you're talking about grow up troll. So next time he should let him drive off and kill someone hope you realize how stupid you sound wow friggin idiot. Lmao nobody should be thrown in jail for driving drunk . And stop being such a sheep and believing the news and social media. Cops don't make things worse not all cops are good but a majority are . I can't believe how ignorant you sound very sad the stupidity of your comment . I bet if this guy drove off and killed one of your family members you would be pissed if he didn't call the cops . Comment section always makes me laugh.

      @@StreaminFreedom Sorry for the rant but you shouldn't feel bad one bit you did the right thing. What if he drove off and killed someone he made the decision to drink or use drugs and drive . Very stupid on his part now he has to face the consequences you probably saved his life and the lives of others thank you. Can't believe this person said nobody should be arrested for being under the influence and especially driving like that. Thank you for not being one of those blind people who just watch. Have a good day and stay safe Jimmy from Massachusetts
