Well done on 1K! I recommend getting into ham radio! Licensing is fairly easy, and you can communicate from anywhere- not cellphone dependent if you need help. Besides it's fun.

That is a Roof Top tent on top of the vehicle it folds out into a tent with access from a ladder. Keeps you of the ground and away from critters :)
Roger is correct. The spot where I met Matt wouldn’t have been ideal to deploy any of the external parts.
