Here are some more names for the rook: _The rook (from Persian: رخ, romanized: rokh/rukh, lit. 'chariot') was alternatively called the tower, marquess, rector, and comes (count or earl). The term "castle" is considered to be informal or old-fashioned._
@@JanFWeh I've played another version of chess where it was called the "chariot", that would have worked. Some people say "castle" but that's not really fitting, especially in chess where "castle" is already a term that means something else.
nah the challenge absolutely was specifically worded so you can take advantage of it, knowing none of the chess pieces have an A in it, they could have worded it "you can only move pieces to and from the A rank"
But this specifies pieces to/from the A file, so your pawns are free and some pieces are mobile enough that you won't run out of moves early unless your king is attacked (as defending becomes hard).
Convincing the opponent that the situation is so hopeless they should resign without capturing/taking any of their pieces would be quite the challenge.
Actually in India, rooks are sometimes called "Haathi" which is hindi for elephant. So when you called the bishops elephant, I was really surprised for a moment 😅. P.S. bishops are called camels, and the queen is referred as just queen or minister depending on who you ask. King, Horse and pawn are same
It's funny that how only horses look like real animals, our people have decided to still name most of the pieces by the name of animals 😅 in chinese chess too. By the way I'm also an indi'A'n.
@animecuts-PokeTV-Amzngmoments well. I have heard that chess was initially played by the kings like a strategic game, so I won't be surprised if in ancient times they all actually looked like animals. And since china is closer to us maybe they got the original version of chess directly from india instead of the changed version. P.S. this is all just my thought, and could be entirely wrong
In indonesia : King = Raja (King) Queen = Ratu (Queen)/Menteri (Minister) Knight = Kuda (Horse) Bishop = Gajah (Elephant)/Menteri (Minister) Rook = Benteng (Castle)
Hm, in Russia we went Iranian way, so it's ферзь (ferz). As I read it means "counselor" in Iranian. In Russian it doesn't make any sense, so sometimes people call it королева (koroleva/queen), but officially it's ферзь.
I was really hoping for a move to be justified with the word "trAde", but hey, I'm not disappointed! Could have had some suspense too, by saying that the movie only counts as an 'A' move if the opponent accepts the trade.
I was really hoping for Knight to D3 as Knight Attacks Queen, while leaving bishops as bishops. Would have really made the punchline at the end if you only made pawn, attacking, trading, and takes move until you checkmated with the Woman.
If I remember correctly, he n'A'med the B file knight Benj'A'min, the G file knight G'A'ol, and the H file rook H'A'ttrick. The A file rook would also have 'A' name starting with A in it.
I thought he was gonna call his queen the "advisor," since that was the original piece's name before it was recast as the queen. I actually laughed out loud when he said "womAn to d8."
I thought elephants were rooks and bishops were archers? In russian, the bishop is called archer/marksman/shooter and is not generally called something related to religion
you can't come up with an A for the rook, also known as a castle, the piece used in castling? j/k I know it was engagement bait, which has an A in the name so it is allowed by the rules.
Pawn, Cavalry, Elephant, Castle, Woman, Monarch. No challenge now.
I was hoping for stallion for knight
More Knight alternatives: Lancer & Dragoon
Camel, and castle would not work for rook as castle already is a special move
Here are some more names for the rook:

Queen to d1 checkmAte
The challenge is now impossible
that one is much better, if only Simp could not think about women all the time
@@mihadragon7165at least he’s loyal, “women” would certainly not work
@@mihadragon7165 he's literally the chess simp
True.
"the queen obviously has the letter A in it"
I can see that your English teacher and your math teacher are related.
Lol I was extremely confused until he played the last move, calling the queen "woman"
Expected the german 'DAme d1' here, ngl
@@Kislay11 I was expecting him to call her Elizabeth, but of course, woman works just fine.
Rooks couldve been cAstles
Thank you, I was just about to say this

bAstions, even!
or ChAriot.
1:10 I'm gonna be honest I expected him to play "Knight Attacks Queens" because attacks has an A in it
That was a brilliant ending. Maybe I'm just in a good mood, but I thought this was one of your funniest videos in recent memory.
When you say "pAwn e5" I knew this video is going to be absolute buffoon
🤡

nah the challenge absolutely was specifically worded so you can take advantage of it, knowing none of the chess pieces have an A in it, they could have worded it "you can only move pieces to and from the A rank"
You will run out of moves pretty soon if only one file is allowed, so the challenge is just impossible.

The piece now known as rook was originally modeled as an elephant with a fortified howdah on top.
in ukraine its bishop - elephant rook - rook king - king queen - queen pawn - pawn knight - horse by the way im an ukrAiniAn
You could have called Knights ChevAliers or CAvAlry
AnimAls
2:12 Knight guArds the king
That was effective rules lawyering. Any Asian parent would be not-so-disappointed
A rook can also be called a chAriot.
The word "rook" apparently means "chariot", so there's your A.
could have called the knight "stallion" or "mare"
In indonesia :
King = Raja (King)
Queen = Ratu (Queen)/Menteri (Minister)
Knight = Kuda (Horse)
Bishop = Gajah (Elephant)/Menteri (Minister)

The czech for chess queen is “dáma” - lady/dame. So other languages has you covered there.
In bulgarian is "Tsaritsa" which also works.

Pawn, Elephant, Chariot, Calvalier, Advisor, Man
"Chess, but if your move does not contain an A, the video ends and your parents disown you" But you're not a coward
Well, that was a creative interpretation of the challenge
You could just add "black" following the move, making every move include an a.
Your quean really came in handy at the end there.
I was really hoping for a move to be justified with the word "trAde", but hey, I'm not disappointed! Could have had some suspense too, by saying that the movie only counts as an 'A' move if the opponent accepts the trade.
Called the bishops elephants, but couldn't come up with castle for rook. smh my head
How many people thought he was just gonna move "a queen" or "a bishop" or "a" whatever?
StarCraft, but you can't micro, only 'A' move.
1:58 "I cannot come up with A name for the rook"
Uhh... dude, I first knew those pieces as cAstles; which is a very valid thing to call them
I almost expected it to get simplified to "A"ttack moves. Also that's one fast elephant.
elephants can run to up to 30km/h, what I'm more shocked by personally is how high it can jump
Kureiji Ollie calls the knights Pegasus
You can move knights.
A knight is obviously named Juan the Horse
My german mind only thought 'DAme d1#' and totally forgot about the woman

I thought he was gonna call his queen the "advisor," since that was the original piece's name before it was recast as the queen. I actually laughed out loud when he said "womAn to d8."
the concept is funny but it immediately devolves into yet another "unapologetically smurfing and hoping my opponent doesn't resign" episode
All you need to do is write out the name of the place you're moving in full - "Knight to the e7 squAre".
The line between coward and genius is really thin here
Rooks are called elephant
Lol. If you’re gonna use Elephant for Bishop, might as well say Mã c6. Mã (Horse) for those of you who don’t know is Knight in Vietnamese.
man i was hoping he'd start naming his pieces lol
Too bad Simp doesn't speak Spanish, he could've called the knights Caballeros
Just name your move "piece" to x file, y rAnk, and there's no challenge anymore
I have "A" plan, nice
Knights are horseys, male horse is called a "stAllion", and a female horse is called a "mAre". Knights are exempted from the challenge
1:58
the rooks are also called elephants in India
so yeah, you could have had four elephants in the game
Well in some languages queens are called ladies, so you should be able to use it as much as bishops
I thought some moves would be allowed with wording like "tAkes /cAptures" or "queen d1, checkmAte"
This is like when I told my parents I got an A for english when really I got a fAil
Did it ever occur to you that the word "takes" has an A in it, meaning any capture would've been legal?
You've seen Asian Math, but are you ready for Asian English?
In spanish, Queen -> Dama, and Knight->Caballo. There you go :) Can't help you with the Rook though....
It’s basically smurfing at this point
... I'll allow it.
Knight to C6, thrAtening the queen
In Spanish bishops are called Alfiles
You bent the rules so much that I'm honestly surprised you didn't even become defensive saying that you're not a coward lol
2:13 - "knight sAves king".
Rooks are elephants, not bishops. They are camels
The French for Knight is ChevAlier.
In Bangla, rooks are called boats, so rooks were usable in the challenge
Knights are called horses in Dutch, which is spelled as "Paard". So you could use them for A moves.
Simp sees no A in coward. 😂
Loved the video. So funny. 😂
I really surprise with "WOMAN" instead queen 😂
You don't even have to call her the "Woman" for this move... Since the move is checkmAte 😏
I thought elephants were rooks and bishops were archers? In russian, the bishop is called archer/marksman/shooter and is not generally called something related to religion
A word plAy in chess plAy video? A more likely thAn I think. Thumb Ap
Any captures could use the word Aquire
It better to call queen is daughter
In another language (Turkish) knights are called horses. (At)
Knight to sea6 is valid
