    I think when you get everything permanently you should put a sub panel to power the welder, mill and the big lathe. Of course you may already have a sub panel for the shop, if you do, hopefully you have enough empty spaces for some more breakers. I’m not an electchicken but I did stay in a Holiday Inn once upon a time!

      Interestingly I found the Square D A-B switch but the damn things are almost $200 new. Just bought a used one on ebay for $60, hopefully it'll be ok when it gets here.

    Thank you for this video I just purchased one of these today and doing research before it arrives so I can hook it up to my lathe I’m having to use it for motor controls as well as a converter like most do the original 7.5 motor was locked up I found a semi same 7.5 motor both motors are 2 speed 1800/3600 one being 4 wire hook up other being 7 so I’ve got to figure that out but the koping has plenty of switches and what not I think I’ve got enough to make it work

    Really like both the videos on this, I have a Large Powerhammer that has a 7.5Hp motor thats 3 phase. its under no load on start up and wondered if you can point me in direction of a vfd for it. Lots on line about needing a giant VFD and it pulling huge amps to run the vfd. looks like from the video your running your lathe off just a 30AMP breaker going to the VFD and then to the Lathe. would like to know what model you used for yours as id like to basically copy it and lots of keyboard warriors give conflicting information that it can not be done but your doing it. any info further is greatly appreciated and keep the great videos coming!

      Mine was one of the cheapest 10hp VFDs I think I found on amazon. Let me dig through my history.

      These have a pretty bad rap on Practical Machinist, but I haven't had any trouble yet with mine.

      @@TheArsonsmith4242 Thank you Kindly! one thing that had me concerned is I have a 40 amp 220 supply to the area the motor and VFD will run off of but reading posts from the different people on several sites say that a VFD has to pull much higher amps to create the third leg so i didnt know if a 40 amp circuit would do it. in the video it looks like you ran yours off of a 30 amp circuit. was that sufficient until you switched to a rotary phase converter setup?

      @@bradkush1462 My Clausing is still running from a 30amp breaker with the VFD. Also have my Bridgeport feed by that same breaker although I'm not sure I've ever ran them both at the same time. If my cheap VFD ever lives up to it's poor reputation and dies I'll be running off the rotary. Until then I'm not changing it.

      @@TheArsonsmith4242 well i have the VFD on order now and the new 9000 pound Hammer is in its new place. I understand that vfd's like to be directly wired into the motor which i can do but i was wondering if theres a way that I can turn the motor on and off without having to open the panel my vfd will be mounted in to start and stop the motor? the motor is never under load when started but in between forging times id like to be able to turn the machine off and one without having to open the dust proof panel and touching the vfd. Any insights you may have is appreciated. thank you again for the great videos!

    I just got o e of these, a gt-7r5g-2, do you just drop a leg on the three phase input? Mine is supposed to be single to 3 phase but it has 3 phase input, nothing mentioned anywhere in the directions.

    • @TheArsonsmith4242
      @TheArsonsmith4242  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I had the same concern and even contact the seller to ship it back, they said just hook up the single phase to two of the inputs and it takes care of the rest. I think they mentioned T1 and T2, but that it doesn't really matter which two.

      @@TheArsonsmith4242 I dropped one leg and it works fine. Dropped the middle leg, not sure if it even matters.

      @@wrightdesigns3333 I find it best to only drop the middle leg in accommodating company.

    Just tell all the keyboard electrical engineers where they can stuff there hat... my 7hp shaper is powered with a heavy gage cord. Mutch like what you have. Im hopping to find a 2nd lathe soon. I think you and Randy Richard has the same machine.

      I couldn't find the 1500 after some quick reviews of his videos but he does have an older Clausing in this video: th-cam.com/video/w5GqZIz6dsA/w-d-xo.html MrPete also has a Clausing similar to that one. Mine i think is about 10 years newer, early/mid 70s. I did cut some chips on it and it's a dream compared to my old 10" Logan.

    Can you make me a video of how to use this lathe and its functions I have a c1500 as well and I can turn it on and change the speed and that's about it. I have no machining experience except for a book I read and it doesn't tell about machine operation. Thanks.
