As an Asian, I LOVE that this movement is finally taking place. However, I'm south Asian, so I guess it doesn't necessarily apply to me, we still get so much hate. I'm 13 and have experienced racism for my religion, culture, and don't even get me started on my food. You have translated my exact thoughts into such an impactful video, I got chills! I hope this video blows up :))

I know that anxious feeling. My mom is an immigrant from Mexico. And I’m like please don’t anyone be racist. Or when I’m alone and no one is aware I’m Latina and they say some off the rails stuff. I’m like really, now I gotta argue with this person and defend my people. It’s sad and the shit needs to STOP.

I moved to the west coast recently, people are so racist against Latin Americans and it’s not talked about enough. Had to put this lady in place for speaking bad about them and her thinking I would agree. I’m Asian but lived with roommates of all backgrounds. Sometimes I wonder why she thought it was okay to vent to me. it’s either you hate us or you use us as a pawn for the “model minority.”

I think it's really important to share this kind of stuff. A lot of people don't know that eye-contact, and other things that show vulnerability in "white" culture when speaking/introducing yourself aren't common in Asian culture.
We don't learn anything about Asian politeness in school unfortunately, or even that much about First Nations, or African North Americans unless you take an elective in highschool; even then you can only pick one.

It is so wierd. When i experience racism, i am in a "flight" mode. Even as i am speaking up for myself, my anxiety level goes thru the roof. My voice gets higher and thinner. My accent would get thicker. When this lady was comming at my mom and me in a costco parking lot, i was in this " fight mode." Everything was clearer. I didnt mince words. I was not overly apologetic. My voice was deeper. I had someone to protect and that was more important than my aversion to a confrontation.

I understand your family's hardship. My grandfather was a 1st generation japanese american. His parents came here and settled in wildwood nj. Growing up in a poor irish neighborhood was very rough in the 30's. Pop said kids and adults would say hurtful racist things and he would get into physical altercations often until he learned to fight. At 17 he joined the army and was in the 442nd troop, the most decorated regiment in WW2. When he returned home with medals and accolades the town had a parade and a holiday named for him. My grandfather said he hated the town more after that because of how poorly he was treated and regarded before risking his life and being injured fighting for a country that didn't want him or his japanese family. It hurt him until he passed away at 93yrs old. He was my very best friend and I wish I could have made his life better

I love how you protect your parents 💚
My Dad lived 5yrs longer than his Dr thought possible: because I moved him in with me & my critters.
When I retired, I bought a small place way out in the country. I rescue the unwanted/wild & abandoned. This has been animal & human beings. A practicing Hedge Witch, I've become very popular in my community as an alternative to regular Veterinary services. Instructions, supplies, a variety of meds (both western & older) during these strange times; I am often the only help available. My grown sons want to protect me. They don't want me sharing with my conservative Christian neighbors that I am a Witch. But I want my wisdom & kindnesses to be evidence, that prejudice against my kind is unwarranted.
May you & your family find acceptance & welcome too, dear one.

I'm fairly new and this is off topic but this is the first video I'm seeing with your dog. It was a nice addition. Even with the heavy topic that is very much needed, it was sweet to see the pup.

Firstly, thank you so greatly for your content. I discovered your work relatively recently and it has been calming and soothing to listen to your strong gentle voice speak about life and love and hardship. I resonate with many of your stories about finding love after divorce, family strains and exclusion stemming from anxiety and social fears. It has been incredibly helpful listening to your videos and the cooking content is just a lovely addition to that. Additionally I deeply connect on the harshness that comes along with protecting your parents from a young age; my father is an immigrant to the US and also happens to be deaf. As long as I can remember I have had to tell able-bodied people that he does not share the same privileges as them and he is incredibly intelligent (albeit socially awkward like myself) and deserves the utmost respect. It hurts to watch others disregard someone because they don’t want to understand differences ( cultural and otherwise). Sending love 🖤🖤

Absolutely love your story time and cooking! You really are empowering us and reminding us to reflect and appreciate where we come from. I was always my mom's right hand man and it was hard, but it gave me the opportunity to spend more time with her as she had to take me with her everywhere. I used to feel so stupid when handling her legal stuff, because I didn't know how the system operated as a teen and so they took advantage of the situation and charged my mom for wreckless driving, when the officer tailgated her so she would speed up a little. That made me look deeper into the legal system to prepare myself for future situations.

Those people were harsh. Dont let that make you have a chip on your shoulder. Understand that culture understanding is difficult for everyone. If all sides understand that there can be various reasons why someone does something. But that's all sides that need to have patience. I do feel for you and your parents. Ignorance sucks. We cant let these things define us. We also cant, as individuals expect the world to conform to us either. I'm a white woman married to a mixed Japanese man. He gets told to go back to Mexico all the time. Go figure. His integrity in this regard is through the roof. He handles it like nobody I've seen and I've learned so much. Praying for this country.

I can’t even begin to imagine your pain or anyone’s pain that has gone through any type of racism, discrimination or hate of any kind.😢😢😢 The tears and sadness I feel for everyone I know is nothing in comparison.
I’m wishing humanity evolves sooner rather than later. We must love each other, we must heal each other, we must teach those who might not know any different. I’m praying this generation is the last that ever has to deal with this.
Sending so much love to all of you out there ❤️❤️❤️🙏😘

Many years ago, I went to a Canada Day celebration in Edmonton Alberta. There were people from all over the world who had come as immigrants to Canada sharing their culture, dance and food...it was a day when you could ask questions about their culture without feeling like you were being rude. It was so eye opening for me and I wish we could do that here to clear up so many misconceptions about all the wonderful people that make up our country...

It's beautiful what you are doing, i hope that we, the people, can continue to make progress until America can be a home for everyone. Without having to worry about the 1 out of 10, this country was founded under a law that claimed freedom for the few, when it should have been the many. I pray you and your parents, anyone, and everyone reading this stays safe. And that the grace of God will protect us all. 🙏🏻

Thank u for this.. u tapped in on so many emotions/topics in one video from a child’s perspective to the privileged perspective and in between not to mention cultural differences are so misunderstood by many but what is more difficult is trying to have your/our culture understood /respected by those who actually don’t have one or if they do they just don’t care about their own. Again thank u so much. Also I will be trying this recipe soon it looks amazing

@@danyielletrader6772 don't let them drag you down, hold you head up high and try to always judge people as individuals rather than as members of percieved identity groups. The intersectionalists and communists try to make us belief that we all fit into identity boxes based on social constructs like class, race, or gender - don't ever let them, or anyone, tell you who and what you are, how you should behave, vote, or who your "allies" and "foes" are. These people only want power, they are part of the problem.
How others percieve you may impact you, sure, but you need to rise above whatever image they have in their heads cause no one is like you and no box they put you in will ever fit cause what's in your head isn't controlled or limited by your skin color or whether you are a man or a woman.
